  1. the 8600GT will never utilize the extra 256MB of memory so you pay extra for nothing, you should try and get the 8600GTS 256MB which will be much better than the GT and shouldn't cost a lot more. Also, Asus hardware is kinda expansive (altough some of their Mother Boards worth it) so you better try and get other less expansive manufacturers but still respectable such as eVGA or MSI.
  2. Good video, those poor F-16s, liked the music too:)
  3. Very nice and funny movie! Good job!
  4. Beautiful! I hope that ED will program those heli beasts with a great AI as they should have. Let's be patience and give ED as much time as they need (but don't take to many ED;)) to make BS as best as they can, BS is gonna rock!
  5. Great news for the community, welcome back!:)
  6. Great job, I like reading those combat stories:D EDIT: The Fantasmagoria is not an ECM pod, it is a RADAR radiation seeker that used in SEAD missions to find enemy SAM RADAR stations and guide anti radiation missiles to it. The ECM pods are those pods next to your wingtips. Oh and I think that you forgot to turn off you nav lights after takeoff;)
  7. It's the best LOMAC movie I've seen IMO, and it's not "they", it was done by the that guy you've quoted:)
  8. ATi made a huge leap forward in terms of OpenGL performance with their drivers, ATi's driver department rewrote all of the OpenGL section on their drivers which helped alot. (Of course that other things helped as well, such as the Ring Bus which got very tweaked for OpenGL games). ATi cards are very comparable to nVIDIA cards in OGL games (DooM3, Riddick, Quake4, Prey...) and sometimes even better. R580 and R580+ AKA X1900XTX and X1950XTX has 48 Pixel Shader units each, those are actually very strong ALU units (math units in simplicity) which can (and will be) used as for physics calculations. (no such thing as physics shaders). ATi cards has more raw shader power than nVIDIA cards (means more ALU power) and has more efficient design (thanks to ATi's superb dynamic branching and more), all of that means that ATi cards (X1000 series) are much more suited for physics calculations, both companies showed some physics apps to the public but there were no head to head benchmarks between them tho so those are only based guesses. AFAIK the 8800GTS shouldn't drop to 200$, more like 300$-350$ and the top 8600 card would be 200$-220$ and should come by the end of March followed by the R600 at early April followed by midrange R600 (RV630 IIRC) a month or a bit more later. As for the topic, it was known for a long time that ATi's AA and AF were better quality than nVIDIA, but nVIDIA did manage to improve somewhat their AA's and AF's quality within their drivers and the new 8800 series. It was found that turning off all the optimizations and increasing the quality setting in the drivers helped with this issue (and caused some FPS drop, altough I don't think you'll notice that in LOMAC), you can try it. The 8800GTS should be a lot better from the X1950Pro in terms of performance, thus the Pro should be a lot cheaper, the GTS is in a different "league" in terms of performance. I wish you luck finding a solution and hope that it will motivate you to create some more LOMAC movies:P
  9. It depends on which CPU are you talking about, different CPU's - different architecture, clock freq is not a comparison factor when you don't tell which CPU you are talking about. Pentium 4 1.6GHZ is a very very bad CPU, not only for games and of course will perform badly in LOMAC even with the fastast video card. On the other hand, Core 2 Duo at 1.6GHZ (E6300 - 1.83GHZ, very good CPU) would be quite good and capable for running LOMAC at high details. And of course there is the Athlon 64 which at 1.6GHZ I assume that would be also able to run LOMAC on high details if combined with a good machine. I'm not a LOMAC performanc expert, I just want you to see the difference with every CPU.
  10. Both are beautiful, thanks ;)
  11. We'll have to wait for R600 launch then ;)
  12. I'm in the hardware "scence" for lots of years already and I have heard those things about the Inq lots of times, but me and other people start realizing that in the past years the Inq was right in a lot of things and people start respecting it. I'm not saying that all that info about the R600 is true, but don't decry the Inq;) Lets hope this info is really true because if it is, the R600 will be an angry beast.
  13. Yeah you're right, but IIRC I think that someone said that it was recorded on an old beta version of BS, thus it wasn't accurate as in the real Ka-50, however it was said that it got fixed long ago and now the engine startup sequence is accurate and correct.
  14. Latest R600 (AKA X2800) geeky news: http://www.theinq.com/default.aspx?article=37484 http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37631 http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37638 And G80 spinoffs (8900GTX & 8950GX2): http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37634 http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37610
  15. Sounds great, now I only have to get another video card and two monitors:P I wonder if both of the video cards are rendering the graphics or only the main one does, and the other just passing the image to the screen, do you know?
  16. Good thread! I need some more aviation sites to spend my time on:D http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/ http://www.f-16.net/ And the forums of course: http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum.html
  17. Some small corrections ;) , F-16A/Bs are called "Netz" which means Hawk, C/Ds are called "Barak" which indeed means Lightning and the Is are called "Sufa" which means Storm. The F-15A/B/C/D are called "Baz" which, you were correct, means Falcon, (and now called "Baz Meshupar" or upgraded Falcon after the MLU) and the Is are called "Ra'am" which means Thunder.
  18. "other weapons" mean gun bullets (such as airplanes onboard gun and Shilka, Vulcan etc), guided and unguided bombs and Air to Surface missiles? Is the "other weapons" WAFM insured to be in BS and implantation of AAMs and SAMs WAFM will happen only of they will have enough time? Thanks.
  19. Thanks for your reply, I now recall seeing the new Apache in BS vid that a russion guy made and brought to the English forum. And what about the SAM WAFM? Does anybody knows something about it? Black Shark sounds so good, can't wait.
  20. Just a quick question, I've just gone briefly on the BS gallery and found no pics of any new Apache model so I was wondering if we're going to have a new AH-64A/D model in BS, are we? And a couple of other question that I think that no one really knows (or can tell us) about them, but I'll ask anyway: 1. I know that most of you guys are mainly flying online, but I do spend a good amout of my Lock On time offline, so I would like to know if we're going to see some "upgraded" airplanes AI. 2. I have read in these forums that ED is really focusing on the SAM scene in LOMAC, thus my question is, will WAFM for SAMs be implanted in BS? I know that those quesiton have been answered and discussed before but I would like to know if something has changed since then. Thanks, and excuse my english.
  21. First of all, are you patched to 1.12a? Second, the main weapon release button for US and Russian are different, check your configuration panel. Good luck.
  22. Thanks, very intersting.
  23. WOW! That black and white skin is amazing! Looking forward to it ;)
  24. Any retail version?:D If that was done with a single GeForce 3 I wonder what they would be able to do with the upcoming R600 CrossFired!
