We currently have AI wingman which is able to go on recon mission and report back the encountered targets. Maybe ED could implement something similiar with FAC? You open radio menu, choose FAC, ask for "Picture" and then FAC tells about all objects it sees. I imagine it something like this: Radio -> FAC -> -> [positioning reletavive to helo/FAC ] -> [enemy/friendly/all] -> [armor/air/AA/other/all]

Climb at 120-140 km/h. If you try to climb at zero forward speed at high altitude, you will almost fall out of sky.

Affinity Tool questions to improve performance
ZaltysZ replied to airjocky2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Fly, stop, engage auto hover - bad. Fly, stop, trim to hover, engage auto hover - good. :) If you simply engage auto hover after stopping over some point, you won't get any good results as it will drift sometimes slightly, sometimes wildly. You need to trim the helicopter for hover and only then engage auto hover mode. You may ask "Why to bother with auto hover, when trim is sufficient?". Well, in gusty wind you won't be able to hover just by using trim (you will have to use auto hover or constantly fight the drift with stick). Even in still weather it is good idea to always use auto hover mode or you may get a bad habit (or lack of good one). Usage of auto hover requires some practice, especially in environment, where you need to change position frequently: you have to quickly disengage auto hover, move, stop, trim, engage auto hover, wait, disengage auto hover, move a little, engage auto hover and so on. It should be transparent to you, but it won't be, if you don't use it constantly. -
Affinity Tool questions to improve performance

I think, advocates of no-auto-hover should try to hover in gusty wind without auto hover :D -
Curved response of joystick will give you desired effect only if helicopter is trimmed, in any other case you will get jumpiness. Try flying with linear response.

On some systems with Vista you have to make sure that your speaker settings say "Stereo" (in configuration utility of your sound card). If you have 5.1 (or something like that) and Vista, it is very likely that you will have missing sounds (radio chatter, training voice overs and etc.). Changing to Stereo will probably fix that.

Vista64 "BS not Working" after ESC at mission end
ZaltysZ replied to NismoRR's topic in Bugs and Problems
Do you use NewView? It causes crashes after mission exit. -
:book: I thought it was: Read The F*nny Manual. Damn those F*nny internet acronyms. :D P.S.: If it is not F*nny after all, then I guess RTFM means "Go and read Kamasutra" :book:

Yes, it is pretty common and acceptable. If person tries hard and read the manual, but still he can't understand (something or everything), then plea for help should be granted. However, if person rushes with questions without even trying to find answers in manual and shows that he doesn't even want to search answers by himself, then ... well, help is denied. It is something like curing patient, which does not want to be cured. This is my view of this problem. Someone may think in the same way or in different one - everyone has the right to have own views.

To be precise, he just asked you to be more specific about where have you downloaded your game. ;) You have overreacted. No, responsibility of moderators is to enforce forum rules. No one here have responsibility to answer nor dumb, nor smart questions. People, who help others here do this because of good heart. Read the forum before saying it is bad. This community many times has showed much more eager to solve problems than some people who asked for help. If not this community some people already would have dropped interest in DCS.

The thing is that manual contains answers to most simple and trivial questions and as you may have noticed already it is pretty large in page count. Simple and trivial questions have one awful property: they are repeatedly asked and asked again. If people are not pushed to read the manual, then someone will have to repeatedly quote information from almost all manual in subsequent answers for EVERY person who does not like reading the manual - after some time it will kill any desire to contribute to the forum. Also, there is some knowledge which you can't easily get from manual - all advanced stuff, which will never be talked about if everyone were busy answering questions which already have answers in manual. So, the sequence: Read the manual for trivial information; Search the forum for more advanced information; Ask in the forum if you can't find information by methods above;

The first post of this thread states: I suppose that if your missions use these actions, they won't work after patch. It will be nothing close to FUBAR, but still - fixes to missions probably will be required.

FUTURE/CURRENT DCS ENGINE NETWORK SESSION
ZaltysZ replied to hannibal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Readings of gauges are enough for cheating alone. The same data, which is fed to your cockpit, can be fed to custom written software, which can act as inertial navigation/datalink system: knowing the start coordinates and constantly reading gauges in small enough intervals, aircraft position can be determined precisely and sent to team mates. This is why there are means to disable .lua exports. -
Yes, it is implemented as weapon for fighters. Ka-50 can't use R-73 or Iglas now and won't be able to use them after patch. Before presenting "evidence" of Ka-50 ability to carry them, make a search on this forum: this question has been already discussed numerous times - please don't make people give you the same answers which were already given in other (dedicated) threads.

If real ABRIS did not have that function, we would not be getting answer "Will be added with patch" from ED. :smilewink:

Russian cockpit images used in English printed manual
ZaltysZ replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Don't forget that you belong only to one group of people and there are others, who like to fly with Russian cockpit, although they can't speak Russian. If manual were with English labels then these people would be as unhappy as you are now, just currently fortune is on their side - well, everyone can't be made happy. -
I am playing them both on Windows Server 2003 x64. No problems. DCS works out of the box, LoFC - no. LoFC requires 1.12b patch ("b"; not "a") and Starforce driver update. I don't recall exact procedure for LoFC, but basics are: install FC, patch to 1.12b, run the game (it will say that Starforce driver has been installed and you need to restart computer; don't reastart it); go to Starforce web site, download and install Starforce driver update and restart PC. That is all.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that people always tend to use leg, which is opposite to turning direction, as support for not flying out of their seat. For example, passenger sitting in the car slightly extends his right leg and puts almost all his weight on it when car is in hard left turn. Although it looks natural, its not how rudder works in aircraft.

You always have to press AUTOLOCK to get good range information. Every time you move target designator, you will have to remeasure range again.

Why shot Tanks not at Me with 120mm Gun?

Don't forget to set tank AI level to Expert. -
Why shot Tanks not at Me with 120mm Gun?
ZaltysZ replied to -BENDER-'s topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I think the limit of engagement with main gun is 1500m, however I have met some sniper tanks too. Also, your altitude is very important: tanks can elevate their main guns only up to 20 degrees, so if you are high and close, they can only use their MGs. -
Blue buttons on left cockpit panel not working
ZaltysZ replied to JozMk.II's topic in Bugs and Problems
Your startup order is also strange. For example, you turn things on, whose require AC power, but rotor RPM are still to low for generators to work and you don't use external power source - it is the same as turning old TV on before pluging it into mains outlet. -
I have asked in Russian forum and the answer was: "We will try to fix it in patch".

То есть, в текущей реализации игры это невозможна, но в реальность АБРИС имеет функцию, которая может показать высоту любой точки на карте? Планируется ли исправить это?
-
So, does this mean that real ABRIS has means to show elevation, but current DCS implementation not? Any plans to change this?
