  1. Be sure to check out the Virtual Armed Forces. We're standing up our F-15E squadron, and we are training both pilots and WSOs. If you’re interested in learning and flying the F-15E, be sure to join our Discord channel! We'll welcome you with open arms, and someone with admin privileges will upgrade you shortly. Also, be sure to see what we're all about on the Air Combat Sim Podcast episode #42!
  2. See the VAF on the Air Combat Sim Podcast episode #42! Are you interested in learning to fly, fight and maximize your abilities in Modern DCS Jets? Would you like to fly fun and challenging cooperative missions as part of a team? Do you have a willingness to learn? If your answers are "Yes," then give the Virtual Armed Forces a go! The Virtual Armed Forces (VAF) is looking to expand its ranks with enthusiastic and motivated virtual pilots and back-seaters who enjoy cooperative missions. We specifically support the A-10C, F-14A/B*, F-15E, F-16C, and F/A-18C, though we often do fly other airframes in our dynamic campaign servers. Speaking of servers, we have one dedicated training server and three fiber-optic data-center servers for missions and dynamic campaigns. We’re currently standing up our F-15E Strike Eagle squadron: the 428th Fighter Squadron “Buccaneers.” If you’re interested in learning and flying the F-15E, be sure to join our Discord channel! We're looking to pair pilots with human WSOs, and we're encouraging cross-training on both stations for all who are interested. This will allow people to switch between stations at will, or even field more F-15Es for events where more aircraft are required. We have two former real-life back-seaters developing the training curriculum for the F-15E WSO. Regardless of whether you fly as pilot, WSO, or both, you can be sure that you are receiving excellent training. Like VF-142 (Our F-14 Tomcat squadron) Pilots will have competent human WSOs, and the melding of two people into a cohesive aircrew is a glorious achievement that provides intense satisfaction and elevates your experience to the pinnacle of what DCS has to offer. And just like we have mature VF-142 Pilot and RIO syllabi, we’re feverishly working on Pilot and WSO syllabi for the Strike Eagle as well. Finally, this is the F-15E Strike Eagle, the premiere tactical strike aircraft in the world! We’re going to be doing all weather deep strikes at night with NAVFLIR and TFR, flying CAP with 8 AMRAAM, and busting bunkers like literally nobody else can do! It's all about fun, and we can have fun in so many ways! And if you are not into the F-15E, be sure to check out the VFA-136 Knighthawks (F/A-18C) or the 111th Aces (F-16C). If you are still interested, please visit Please read the VAF rules and regulations and then apply by joining our Discord at https://discord.gg/NRaZbcK9nJ. * VF-142 is currently inactive pending formal establishment of the 428th FS and correction of the AIM-54 performance envelope.
  3. I don't use VR, so I really can't test this. However, the rudder trim is not mapped to Hat1 in VR since shifted functionality defaults to either aileron trim or mouse buttons. Rudder trim is often mapped to another hat switch (often one used for SnapViews), but it matters which aircraft you're flying. Also, be sure to check the controller reference and see what the VR substitutions are (they're usually beneath the HOTAS graphic).
  4. Another plug for the Virtual Armed Forces (VAF). We take beginners and we're patient if you put in the effort. We're actively recruiting for the Hornet, Viper, and Strike Eagle. Also, see us on the Air Combat Sim Podcast #42.
  5. Looking forward to it. Once you join Discord someone with admin privileges will give you guest privileges and you can try us out for size!

  8. @Mike Force Team the discord link is my fault. Try this one: https://discord.gg/NRaZbcK9nJ
  9. Dude, I was with the 214th back in 1999! With the VAF now.
  10. Sorry. Sorry. I'm away from my network until Saturday, and it likely picked a bad time to have interrupted service. I'll have it back online by Saturday evening (EST).
  11. Not only were a few B's made, but all of them are different. They were all experimental designs that were evolving in real-time, so there is no consistency between B airframes. Other than the fuselage speed brakes on the A (which were welded in anyway), there is really no airframe difference between the A and the E. The E, as someone else posted, was a solid state upgrade to DIANE. Yes, the "kicking the drum" thing from FOTI was real in the A. The cockpit difference is the radar repeater on the pilot side is gone in the E production model, though it is present in the E upgrades. I'm not sure if it worked though; the reason it worked in the A is because there were two separate radars in the nose, so the pilot always had the standard ground radar even when the B/N went into attack. Bottom line: we can still fly Vietnam missions with the E. Use the E as a B for STARM, and use the E as an A by removing the TRAM pod and loading dumb iron only. The only difference is the solid state DIANE, and it's debatable whether we would really want to model the analog system anyway. It will be challenging enough to fly DIANE without dealing with the slow processing of the A. EDIT: Personally, I wouldn't mind getting a SWIP version that had GPS and could handle JDAM, SLAM and HARM. You can always not load a feature you don't want to simulate period, but you can't bring an older airframe into a modern setting and expect the newest gear to work.
  12. Are we looking at decal layers for these as well? Looking forward to it!
  13. INS drift could be a topic all its own. It's definitely not linear and it is cyclical. Some inertials also incorporate a Kalman filter which dampens the level of drift and tries to make it as linear and predictable as possible. Bottom line: that amount of drift advertised is really your radius of trust. I've had inertials stay within a mile after 10 hours and we could match them to the TACAN when we got near home plate. There's also a school of thought that you don't update the position on the inertial because you don't know where you are within the Kalman cycle, e.g. if you update when the drift is at its maximum, then you've just recentered your confidence radius on a fringe point. Of course, if you're getting ready to put weapons on target, you don't care about your position in the Kalman cycle, but rather your accuracy over the next few minutes. This is the classic reason you have Initial Points: they're used to update navigation as well as line up on the target. IPs are classically something you can identify either visually or on radar (with radar they're called RUPs) so you can update your inertial prior to run-in.

    TPOD vs TGP

The Tomcats started with the 25k LANTIRN pods, but upgraded because they weren't planning on changing pods. The USAF went to the LITENING pod fairly quickly after LANTIRN and didn't need the 40k LANTIRN upgrade.
  15. @Jarmak Your arguments are solid and well founded. I agree that I would prefer discrete bindings before toggles, and certainly standard discrete and On/Else bindings for 3 position switches. Toggles are great as well, but they should be in addition to discrete bindings, not in lieu of. I too share some of these frustrations. Hopefully RAZBAM takes this post to heart.
  16. I'm using an Access database to do everything, and the text file is ANSI format, so I don't even know how the Unicode got there to begin with.
  17. Thanks. Try this discord link: https://discord.gg/NRaZbcK9nJ
  18. Not sure what causes this, but I don't see the unicode character. Try deleting it. The sections should read as follows: //========================================= // Script Baseline //========================================= //========================================= // Hardware Configuration //========================================= //========================================= // Default Initial Configuration //========================================= //============================================ // Script Personalization //============================================ If that doesn't work, try backing up, then removing the cts.dat in your CTS folder and having CTS rebuild it from scratch.
  19. 2.71a (Hotfix 1) is out. H4L/R now maps properly with Hornet Stick selected on the F-15E and F/A-18C.
  20. Got it sorted, and I'll have a hotfix out shortly. Thanks for the report.
  21. Mango, You may wish to check out the Virtual Armed Forces. We have a very active hornet squadron: the VFA-136 Knighthawks. We fly mostly PvE on three semi-dynamic campaign servers in complex integrated strike environments (e.g. rolling back IADS, sweeping bandits, striking and taking over airfields). Jump in our Discord public chat channel and introduce yourself. Then fly with us and see if we're a fit for you.
  22. Alkaline, Glad to hear you have your demons under control after all this time. I've seen it with a family member; just keep everything day to day and keep putting your best foot forward. Besides, DCS is arguably a healthy obsession and addiction! You may wish to check out the Virtual Armed Forces. We have three semi-dynamic campaign servers, and we fly mostly PvE in complex integrated strike environments. We have the A-10C, and while we don't fly the F-15C, we are standing up an F-15E squadron. Don't worry about the learning curve; we're all learning the mudhen, and it's a lot of fun because it's so capable. We also fly the tomcat, hornet, and viper. The viper avionics are also similar to the A-10C, and if anything a bit more streamlined. Drop in on our Discord and introduce yourself on our public channel. Then fly with us and try us out for size!
