Sooooooooooo, I just tried the gate and needless to say I failed, the gate is too narrow. BUT, I then had the biggest wtf-moment in DCS history... (this may also be interesting for ED/BST) Zombie - UH-1 Here is what I did: 1. Spawn as fly by at the location of the building to spare me the flight from the airport (knew I would need more than 1 try). 2. Broke my rotors at the gate. 3. Went back to briefing and selected the UH-1 again, hoping to spawn at the set fly by position again. 4. I spawned in the UH-1 I just crashed at the gate, without rotors, took off thought "hey I was standing way too close to the building for the rotors to not get immediately damaged again. 5. F2 made my jaw free fall. 6. Already in shock, I took it even further. Small teaser what I ended up back at the airfield (that's a hover btw): For the entire story, I attached the track too. Edit: Perfectly reproducable with the Ka-50 too (ignore the background, that already was broken, wasn't me :D). In case anyone interested what becomes of this, bug report here. Greetings MadCat (in need of a therapist now and a 12-gauge in case of an incoming zombie appocalypse) UH-1H - WTF.trk

AFAIK this isn't possible anymore. What GlowingAmraam did in his video was a very early beta of the Ka-50. If you try it now, the train will be destroyed upon contact. Though, last time I tried is several years ago, don't know if they changed it again. Greetings MadCat

Does the UH-1 actually fit through the gate ? I thought about it, but estimated the rotor diameter to be larger than the gate, so took off vertically again. Greetings MadCat

What kind of maneuvers should I learn?
-MadCat- replied to guitarxe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
In combat, you hardly plan your maneuvers ahead like you do for an aerobatic display. Far more important is to feel comfortable with the helicopter and know/have a feeling for its performance and maneuvering envelope. You have to adapt to an ever changing battlefield. My suggestion is to just keep flying around and do all kinds of crazy stuff to push the helicopter to its limits. If you still want to learn specific maneuvers, autorotation is a skill that can save your life. Also precise maneuvering in restricted space (e.g. urban areas) is beneficial. Most important, have fun flying. Greetings MadCat -
Ignoring the fact this is the MI-8 thread: Hueyman"s concerns are sound. Did anyone have a look at the rotor disk yet during slow taxi ? A little hint, the helicopter is not moving sideways :D I set trim for 17-18 km/h forward flight and then left collective and cyclic alone, steering only with rudder around the airfield (no wind btw). If some people still think I was decelerating in that screenshot, I will post the track too. Now, who volunteers to explain to us that everything is fine with the disk in this screen and the total thrust vector is in fact pointing backwards ?! Greetings MadCat

Is trim reset the same as Trim T/O?
-MadCat- replied to JayPee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
None of the aircrafts released so far does have a trim reset (let alone the T/O in A-10). Yet it is implemented by ED for, what I'd say, user friendlyness (just like control position indicator). I personally don't have a need for either while flying. Greetings MadCat -
Hey to all you UH-1 crazed. Let me start with saying, it's not my attention to complain or to force anything out of BST. So I ask anyone who plans to only comment with "[...] meh, all the complaining always, it's beta, wait and see [..]" to not comment at all in the first place and let those who are interested in information be heard. Thanks in advance! What I'd like to do is, on behalf of everyone who's asking oneself the same questions, to very politely ask BST if they have any new information worth sharing with us. It's 1,5 months since we last heard anything regarding the development stage of the UH-1. Looking at some recent threads, there are concerns about no new info for quite some time among the community. Please, BST, give us new information about what's going on. Neither am I asking for a release date, nor for when we get the next game update. Just asking for some information that no doubt will be appreciated by everyone, even by those who don't admit it and tell everyone else to stay calm. Thank you ! MadCat

Is trim reset the same as Trim T/O?
-MadCat- replied to JayPee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you think about it, you most likely won't find a single situation in flight where you'd want to immediately get the plane to take off trim (at least I cannot imagine one). Adjust trim from where you are, going to T/O and adjust again from there is nothing but a detour. Adjustments should be small and frequent anyway. If you suddenly have to trim from left aileron down all the way to full right aileron down, you should have a look to the left first if it's worth to waste time trimming instead of getting the hell out of the sinking ship :music_whistling: Greetings MadCat -
This basically killed my multiplayer experience since 1.2.5 is out. I don't have the "resources" to build a new machine that could run DCS maxed out, so need to deal with the old system I have. Yet I did not have any of those problems with 1.2.4... Unfortunately, I cannot report any other than to express my disappointment about 1.2.5  Brought me nothing but headaches... MadCat

Will the Mi-8MTV2 be able to lift trucks?
-MadCat- replied to SilentGun's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I'd see some very entertaining "games" developing out of that. Anyone volunteering to model a giant dart board ? :megalol: -
Think I got misunderstood. I didn't raise my finger telling the old "use the search before asking silly questions" story. It was meant as a hint to have a look around the board, because there already is a lot additional information about this topic, including comments from actual UH-1 pilots. But as you already picked up the "search topic", another (friendly) hint: A very simple search for "shake" on the UH-1 board, already yields all the most relevant threads about it. Have a nice day ! This has been discussed to great detail already, just have a look around the UH-1 board. I'll just comment with what I already wrote in another topic.

Would you want/ allow flyable civilian aircraft in DCS
-MadCat- replied to Kroll's topic in DCS Wishlist
@BLACKHOLE I think it was Wags himself who once explained what DCS really is. It is not supposed to picture a specific theatre, a specific time frame or anything the like. This came up last time as the P-51 was announced and many asked "why the P-51, it doesn't stand a chance against an AIM-9". DCS is a baseframe to integrate aircrafts into, without any claim to match or balance the individual additions against each other. So I'd say, ED is totally free to add whatever they want to. And on a friendly side note, you may want to chose your words more carefully, or else I predict you'll soon run into more than just a little dispute with fellow forum members. edit: +1 for civil additions, MD500D/E please :) Greetings MadCat -
You're right ! Must have mixed some things up in my head while typing. So it's the DCS.exe that's not starting as the active window (edited the original post too). MadCat
-
DCS.exe still doesn't start as the active window. A mouse click anywhere brings me to desktop and I have to tab back in. AI still takes control of client aircrafts when I switch to another aircraft (singleplayer). Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for updates! It's just that 1.2.5 brought me more bad than good so far. Trimmer Reset vs Central Position Trimmer Mode
-MadCat- replied to doright's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
My advice: Uncheck central trimmer mode and get in the habbit of trimming very frequently. That will eliminate all the crashes caused by accidential trim and not returning the stick fast enough. The erratic "jump" of the helicopter when trimming and moving the stick to the center will only tell you that you didn't trim often enough. Trim for the smallest adjustments and you will find the "jumps" being very small and gentle if present at all. Soon you will see trim reset is not needed at all, too. Ever since I did that in BS1 times, I haven't had a single crash because of the necessity to always center the stick again in the heat of the battle or when hugging the terrain. Greetings MadCat -
Looks perfectly fine to me. Keep in mind you sit off the aircraft's centerline! It is strange for some time, but you'll get used to it just like when driving a car (let alone formula cars or the Mclaren F1 :D) Greetings MadCat

The August 2nd Wags Update! Thread
-MadCat- replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well for me, the game doesn't start as the currently active window. Clicking anywhere brings me to my desktop. Seems to have been an issue once already: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98968&highlight=full+screen The AI still takes control of client crafts once I hop into another one (single player that is). If this is going to be a feature, please make it optional or someone explain me please how to turn it off, I didn't find a way yet. Old missions crash dcs once I quit the missions and the loading bar reaches 100%. I now need to redo them, fortunately I didn't make too complex ones in the past. For the things mentioned, I'm still somewhat disappointed about 1.2.5 to be honest. Yes I already did try the repair function but lack the time or leisure to reinstall everything right now. Regarding steam, I may be among the minority with this, but I hope both ways to purchase and run DCS remain? Sure steam spreads the attention further, but I'd not like to be forced to have steam running too when playing dcs. Just my 2 Cents, thanks for the update nonetheless ! MadCat -
OH-58 Kiowa Warrior or (even better (personal opinion)) AH-6 Little Bird Pleaseeeeeee ? ! :music_whistling:

Unloading the disk in a turn ? ! Please read up on "centripetal force" ! The only thing you could possibly mean with unloading the disk is doing the push over on the peak when crossing a ridgeline, having nothing to to with turning. Unloaded blades are only present when there is no acceleration present. Turning in fact is an accelerated condition. Think I'll quit here, this seems to be going in a direction bringing up theories defying more and more laws of physics... MadCat

Sorry to disagree, but: Pulling the cyclic back, lifts the helicopter's nose, reducing speed and gaining altitude. Pushing cyclic forward, lowers the helicopter's nose, increasing speed and losing altitude. Deflecting cyclic to either side banks the helicopter in the same direction, the helicopter drops the nose and starts to swing in that direction. In what way does this differ from fixed wing ? I'm not talking about hover or speeds close to the transition between forward flight and hover. I'm just talking about forward flight, and in that flight regime you can for the most part fly a helicopter just like you do a fixed wing. In case not, I'm doing something wrong and still it magically works out just perfectly fine. For turns with reasonable forward speed and say less than 20° bank, I add so few collective it isn't worth mentioning if any at all. I bank to the direction I want to turn and pull on the cyclic while correcting with pedals to not slip the tail. Speed or altitude loss is negligible. So I stick to my point to mostly treat it like a fixed wing in forward flight. I'd like to hear flyer49's opinion about this too, from what I gathered he has significant hours on the UH-1 and can sure tell 100% how to turn correctly. Greetings MadCat
-
In forward flight a helicopter shares a lot of characteristics with a fixed wing. So a good start is to pull back on the stick to prevent a loss of altitude and of course correct with the pedals. The more you bank, the more you need to pull which in return reduces the amount of forward propulsion, meaning greater speed loss. You could compensate with more collective, thereby less cyclic pull needed and so on. Yet that often just makes the turn more aggressive as needed. Keep the turns coordinated and turn as wide as possible and only as sharp as needed. Keep the collective put and if you do very gentle turns you'll see the loss will be very small. Hope that helps a bit for the beginning! Greetings MadCat

SnapViewsDefault.lua file is missing UH-1?
-MadCat- replied to Rattler1606688326's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Editing the values in Mods\aircrafts\Uh-1H\views.lua didn't have any effect on the game. I had to copy the entries into the Config\View\SnapViewsDefault.lua again, that worked. MadCat
