  1. What app is using alot for you apart from DCS when running DCS? I have 38 processes running on my Win 64 Ult. But its pretty barebone to make sure less problems. My system takes 3.5 GB while running a barebone mission. As i have a extreme OC on my CPU (watercooled systems that is) i use only 6 GB of mem so far as those chips i have in is pretty good.
  2. I guess the tread will be moved, but it quite easy. I renamed my ED folder to something else and packed it including the "Saved Games" folder as a separate zip and stored it on a non SSD disk first. Then unintalled 1.2.4 through Control Panel. You may need to clean away a couple of files after. Then i installed 1.2.5 on the same SSD under the ED name as usual. Then unpacked back the 1.2.4 archive (Make sure the containng folder has a different name than the installed 1.2.5!). So now I have 2 "Saved Games" folders ready in its usual location with different names (like "Saved Games" and "Saved Games 1.2.4") and 2 ED folders also with different names which i just switch between when needed. But note if your not feeling right about messing with this dont do it. But to be able to do these things you need to keep you Torrent downoads available Its handly. And note i dont use the DCSUpdater at all. Will do later when the sim is in better condition...Another thing in this is the "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\DCS" folder. It may play tricks on you as its used for temp files. I usually clean it too before i do installs, BUT it could be critcal if you use DCSupdater sometimes later as it also stores info about DCS current state. Also i use a program called "Total Commander" for disk work. Nothing on earth is better to do jobs like this IF you like the way it operates. Doing it like this isn't at all optimal, but serves ok for testing purposes. Also iI hate using UAC so i dont', even if a security treat, messes up alot of installs for ppl in my opinion.
  3. That has turned into a debatable thing if you read what major stuttering problems more and more MP players starts to report. Major stuttering affects whatever approach you take in the sim. Allthough it doesn't seem like the more "experienced" members yet have reported stutters, there have been changes in how let say the structures pop into view when getting close.
  4. Yes i know Biba, but thanks for the tip anyway. Only thing is that you have excluded download time and server access in your calculations which i dont need by having 2 versions installed all the time. I have the space for it still. And to you other critics here...do not flame Biba for what he brings up here. Its legitimate stuff, Period! Moving it to the Chit-Chat section maybe right, but i guess the forums arent too clean anyway about where things are put as treads often need to bring up different point of views to clarify things unless locked by a scheme. The section is btw. called "Bugs and Problems"
  5. 159th_Falcon You know this one :) , as i've understood in a regular way DCS checks for updates once a day by default. And note i havent used that feature yet as i dont yet need it, but does it mean that if there is a change in the files will DCSUpdater regardless add missing files when you start DCS? DCS checks for updates once a day by default and if that kicks in they will be added? What i have done is to change my shortcut or more correctly add another one which i use containing ""X:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\Launcher.exe" instead of """X:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" thereby choosing when i want to do changes.
  6. Let me know if the rollback to 1.2.4 goes well. As long as ED keeps that feature alive i think you can relax more. What you loose of playingtime doing all this corrections is another matter :) I myself have set up my system so i can change between 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 in like less than 2 mins.
  7. As a for now small contribution to this i did a test with the most basic fresh DCS installation (1.2.5 incl. refresh of DX and VC++ libs) and using the SU-25T and pretty high graphics settings and flew a tour around different scenery areas. Result so far: Not a single micro or macro stutter to be seen and around 57-60 fps NO VSYNC. Obviously is saw reported things like the buildingtextures popping black for 1/100th of a sec and dont really remember how much 1.2.4 grabs of mem, but now a basic mission grabs around 2.5 gig...eh...so...i guess i soon have to start thinking about getting more mem for my system. Of course this is a unrealistic mission, but could give an indication of the basic environment is not causing stutters... EDIT: Thought I saw a report about the TrackIR could be a factor in the picture, but i used mine on this flight and seems to be smooth as silk.
  8. We all need to watch our steps on accusing anyone on any subject as there could definately be misunderstandings involved all the time. Also not all of us are native english writers, so a recap is always important before bitching. On this matter here we just need to get alot of members into the tread and see what their experiences are to get a good foundation. Maybe a reference mission is in the order to test this. This is PRIORITY ONE for any new hotfix/patch if it happens to many and is nothing that can wait for more than a minimum of time in my opinion. Lets see what more members say first.
  9. Ok that part i do think i understand the consequences of...What the...are we getting into a WW2 against Star Wars situation here in the sim? It's supposed to be playable too for non military experts isn't it? I guess thats also the reason why some of the russian missiles now reach outerspace too...hehe...Anyway i think i know exactly where to change stuff to make the missilefights more playable if needed...
  10. What kind of systemspecs du you guys have?. Obviously check for any change in background services/processes running since the update. Did you have any perf. inc. config mods before the update and are they still there doing their job? Start with a mid air onshore mission and your plane only and cache scenery by turning view 360 deg. Then fly straight ahead over different scenery at suitable height on autopilot doing nothing with the stick or view. Do you get any unsual micro/macro stutters then? If so probably something in your local software setup excluding DCS. If not add one after the other of the new or changed objects for 1.2.5 into the mission and see what happens. Try some kind of systematic approach to narrow in the problem. Also i know from before that some of the planes are demanding on fps cause of the complex models combined with their individual LOD settings, but i dont recall that i got stutters. Was more the general fps which dropped. I do use a SSD but a defragged generally fast 7200 RPM disk should be fine too. I only have 6 gig mem, but i still always run my system without a swapfile. No problem ever with that. Good luck!
  11. D*mn, am so tired now that all i should do is to go to bed, and i will, but i wanted to back up my DCS World archive to another disc while sleeping, but now i dont know what's the most most recent version of the archives i have. The one i downloaded a few days ago was "DCS_World_1.2.5.15586.200_213", but on DCS's site the "DCS_World_1.2.5.15865.212_219" archive is currently in the torrent, that is with a lower version number? Which one am I supposed to keep to have the best working version? EDIT: After some sleep i now found the right archive to store...so sorted out
  12. Exactly Kuky! That's where we all will go eventually. ED's buisness model works flawlessly  Am still trying to resist it but they will get me too soon :)
  13. Hmm...i often empty that TEMP folder along with other junkfiles, but anyway what was the name of that AV you use again? I'm starting to see the that alot of problems arise from AV and Admin rights with the installs
  14. Don't joke with things like that..hehe...think about it wouldn't it be just a little annoying for some to know that they are in a situation with almost a sim within a sim like FC3 inside a DCS World with most modules so maybe it would be easier just buy the A-10A and the SU-25 modules too just to get rid of those d*mn $ signs and everything is clean and tidy...:music_whistling:
  15. Agree with you here, things which i also do think about it that casual players dont usually go that deep into the the workings of the sim environment and many i think will be really happy to see what DCS has become that is IF they have the hardware (like me...hehe...DCS runs just beautiful FPS and eyecandy wise) to get a nice experience. Which reminds me...ED...make sure you add a good system requirement and recommended specs for the game. Thinking that putting a "barely keeping the nose above water" spec for the sim will give more potential buyers could turn into a massive complain about FPS etc. and negative rep cause of that. Also if the sim is stable is critical and i think it should be ready for Steam for sure. As you mention about the training videos. There could be made new ones of course by ED, but there could also be referred to others or done arrangements with other good sources for this. Which btw. the ARMA team do. They have hired guys outside of BI to do this There are a few good tutorial guys on DCS out there for sure already. Some of my defintive favourites for DCS which will learn you what you can't easily learn by the book and are really well thought are: 1. http://www.youtube.com/user/4023446 2. http://www.youtube.com/user/gerryabbott/search?query=dcs
  16. LOL! That's the best one in here in ages, Skate ! +1 Rep inbound
  17. Yes i understand, was using the wrong words there. Will be interesting to see how things go with DCS on Steam. Hardcore sims is a hard nail as often its only the most dedicated which put their money into it, but hey you know as long as ED supplies these superfidelity models and an always improving environment, those who appreciate it i think will always support ED even if away for a while. As i see it the sim has the potential of being the only sim i would ever need for this kind of gaming.
  18. No problem, Panzer thanks for the understanding on this! I know its ALOT easier to ask for than to develop. They need to do tradoffs all the time and not at least if they make the sim flawless too soon, then there won't be that much to discuss either. It will be only "How was your flight today?". "Jolly good thanks, and yours?":D
  19. Panzer, if you dont see any implications of using the autoupdater that is good for you, and i dont really want to waste time explaining why i dont prefer to use it. Lets leave it with that. Talking about that maybe the Autopdater will be the only available solution soon anyway for us if they move over to Steam soon and do a connection to the old method via them. Just as a sidenote i've never actually had any problems with Steam whatsoever and i think it's good that ED moves over to them. Origin is another matter....what a...Grrr! An Autoupdater or Steam system which is 100% reliable is definately to prefer for ED i guess. But as long as i can choose i like the Torrent. When it comes to your second "tip" i am not actually reporting bugs here. At least that was not the intention. I try to sum up som of the things i myself think is important for the longterm life of the sim. These matters if not working could cost ED the loss of alot of potential newcommers and i have only one thing i want with ED and DCS and that is that its gonna be the ultimate sim above ground in the future. I dont think that you have to think hard too long to find another military sim which if they put effort into it will close the gap and even pass DCS by along run for a complete military simulation. Note that that is if they put the effort into it. I want DCS to keep going strong as smaller companies always seems to take care of their customers better that the big ones. Also the more planes i get above a certain max to choose from it turns the other way around and i stop playing cause i dont know where to start. More planes is good, but not at any cost. There are other more important features which needs to work stable and well to make the sim interesting as a combat sim and not only a place to do sightseeing with a new plane once a week. Don't really ask me for exact problems, there are others which seems to have alot more time to do research into that around here. Maybe some of the reports aren't correct so therefore am asking here.
  20. Ok, after waiting off all this mess after the 1.2.5 patch, it starts to look like the sim is getting closer to work properly again, but i wanted to ask a couple of important things for me that is. 1. ED want us to use the Autoupdater as much as possible i know, but i like to have the torrent version of my updates until the Autoupdatesystem is reliable enough meaning not to many customer complaints about problems using it. So i wanted to ask ED if they are going to put a torrent for the hotfix or wait until next patch to integrate it there? I would personally like the torrent for the hotfix. 2. I have until now bought all products ED has ever relased even Jane's F/A-18 which Wags also worked on even if not ED. Still play it btw. I may continue with that if i see changes in the things which for me is the critical aspect having a good time with the sim and that is the SP combat environment. I hear reports of the following: 1. Vehicles not getting to their destination cause of pileups. And that seems like many places according to member findings. 2. AI's spotting you even if behind cover. This part i guess is complex, but i would like to know if the changes ED has done in 1.2.5 in regards to this is making the sim more realistic combat wise in SP. 3. AI's flying into the ground on their RTB. 4. In general what issues are still in the sim when it comes to these kind of matters which affect SP gameplay most AI wise. I dont have much time nowadays to do to much research on this so the time i get i just want to d/l a user made mission and play or continue working on making a mission. 5. I was starting sometime ago on making a pretty advanced mission with lots of triggers and i did lots of testing along the way to check that things repeatedly worked as they should. I did notice that this work took alot of time, so my question is can ED answer how much effort is gonna be put into making sure backwards compatibility on missions in the future? In general any eyecandy improvements from now on should in my opinion be put on hold until things like to above is sorted out. in my opinion these are really critical things for the sim. I guess this is worked on. These things may be resource hungry apsects for ED and not directly generating funds like new models etc. etc. do, but i can't do more than offer my support by buying their future modules, but i have a feeling sometimes that the combat environment for SP play isnt stable enough especially for using alot of time to make missions and also for generating enough "Randomness" in the AI's behavior. Sounds a bit like am talking dynamic campaign here but isn't there a middleway out there?
  21. Yeah most looks good so far, but the "Activate group" glitch is serious stuff. I wonder if its gonna be a quick and dirty patch for that or if theyre are gonna pack a new bin set for this. Nice to have all in one clean package. Lets wait and see.
  22. Yes, i understand, but what about the upcomming AFM module versions of the FC3 planes?
  23. I was wondering if its only the A-10C and BS which have the possibillity to use ADF and TACAN navigation in the sim? If those are the only ones, does anyone know if there are any plans to implement it for the other current planes in the future?

    Huey module

Great to hear from one of the "officals" too. I've just bought the Huey 1 min ago. Am starting to feel good about the DCS future now with EDGE and all. As long as they keep the system at a level which means fps is stable and smooth its all good. Hope they dont add a dynamic campaign system too later as then i wont have time to go to work anymore :D.

    Huey module

Ok, the Huey concept seems like "a little different" in a way and i wonder how its potential is going to be in missions. I just felt like i got a rock in my head with the writing "don't you have enough systems to explore now? Will you ever gonna learn half of this?" But i guess i will pretend i didn't notice and get the Huey too...hehe. As long as i'm not getting into some kind of upgrade path since its now on sale. I rather buy for the full prize to avoid upgrade installs.
