  1. If RRG is doing an entire WWII scenario and we eventually get a map for it, one of the things I'd like to see is a change in the pilot model on the P-51. It isn't a big deal but it would be nice if the pilot was dressed as a WWII pilot. I Haven't bothered to check if they did this with the 190 pilot or not.
  2. Thanks for clearing that up horseback! You got it, all about how the mission is setup and the skill of the people involved. In other sims I've seen guys do boneheaded things and keep wondering why they get shot down. Hell from what I hear on DCS public servers you can't get most people to work together if they had a gun to their heads. Zeke isn't at the top of my list either, but I would definitely be disappointed if it didn't show up in DCS some time down the road. Didn't late war Zekes fix that fuel tank issue? If that is the case, ED seems to want to model the late war planes, and if RRG keeps to that perhaps it won't be such a big issue with the Zeke. If all else fails though, like Hans said you always have an option: Banzai!!!! And we NEED a pilot model on the Zeke with this headband
  3. 1942 and beyond, yes Wildcats had higher than the 2:1 ratio you mentioned - think something like 5:1 or more. However, this was by employing certain tactics (like boom and zoom) against the Zeke (which were faster and more maneuverable). It was also being done by military pilots who were well trained and knew what they were doing. In the sim crowd you have people who don't always know what to do and do the wrong thing. I don't think it'll be so one-sided in DCS.
  4. In the case of attack choppers, this is an issue. In the F-15E the pilot can control everything on his MFDs that the WSO can on his own screens. My understanding is that this is the same with the F-14D. So you don't HAVE to have someone in the backseat to operate the aircraft and weapons. Sure it makes the workload easier on the pilot just as in real life, but even with multiplayer ability how many people will jump in the backseat and play with radars vs the number that will want to fly? The choppers at least have a gun for the other guy to play with. While I know of people who would be willing to operate as a WSO, not every pilot is going to be able find someone willing hop into the back, certainly not 100% of the time online. Since two companies have said they will make an F-15E and one stated they'd make an F-14, obviously they already have an idea of how to approach the situation.
  5. Bf-109 at the top of my list, I like the Gustav models. P-38 and Spitfire XIV. A Seafire II would also be nice. Would also like to see a Russian Yak-3, variant for it might be the Yak-3P.
  6. I find that the gold nuggets of info tend to be from a small comment made in response to someone on the forums, like the Su-25T 3D pit being mentioned before the official announcement. I've learned to use the "Find more posts by" option quite a bit, especially when it comes to Wags.
  7. I've got the Saitek Combat pedals and can't recommend them enough. Like cichlidfan said they have the same internals as the standard Saitek pedals. But the pedals themselves are a good size and made of metal. I wear a size 15 shoe so I wanted something that can take the beating and be big enough for me, and these pedals fit the bill. If you don't need something metal then the standard Saitek pedals should be just fine. I can't comment on the CH pedals but I've heard the same thing others have mentioned.
  8. Good choice, I like the look of the Afrika Korps paint schemes as well. As for the 190, main part of that disappointment came from the fact that a previous WWII sim I used to play years ago had it, and I never seemed to do well with the 190 in that game. I think the game was called Warbirds, before it became Warbirds 3D. It may be from the same company that has an online game of that title now, but it was an older one than what they have now. Hopefully my experience with the 190 turns out better in DCS, which it should since the flight model in DCS blows away that old game.
  9. Ah I see, thanks! Hip, Hind and Afghan map would definitely be fun. Add in infantry models of Afghan era soviets and mujaheddin and you should have everything you need to model that conflict.
  10. I think a brown paper bag to breath into for a moment would have been more in order after that announcement:lol:. I'm good though and mainly just kidding around, despite the fact that Wags has the uncanny ability to take my dreams into his hands and do this: I'd have to say I agree, and I think that Wags is trying to say there are other priorities without directly stating it. Getting things ready for Mi-8 and MiG-21, as well as some others I think are coming soon, has got to eat up a lot of time.
  11. I believe that is Afghanistan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Afghan_National_Air_Force_roundel.svg Edit: Beat me to it Rammit, rep inbound, thanks for confirming. I'm not familiar with all the specs of the Mi-8, so I was wondering about the gunner positions. It was mentioned that they won't be added until release so I understand why they are missing in this screen shot. But when added, there will be a cut out in the back door area on the right side correct? I'm assuming he's also able to aim out the back when the doors are fully open as well?
  12. First SM now this, thanks Wags I'm going to go put some ice on that now;) I'm not surprised and understand, gonna take some time to get something like an F-18 out the door. Plenty of other aircraft coming out before then to chew on. At least this will stop people asking about F-18 news until then. *PPPfffftttttt* I almost said that with a straight face:lol:
  13. I know, and for the sake of DCS simmer heart health everywhere, let's hope that's all it is...:D
  14. No news, of course not meaning bad news, just no news. I'm remaining optimistic:). I have a theory that Wags and ED might be holding off on giving any news on the F-18 until they are close to completion. Then he can jump in with tons of screenshots and videos to show what is shortly coming out. I'd let people grumble and complain until I had enough to just blow their minds. Of course a major Wags update suddenly showing a nearly complete F-18 might result in a flood of flight sim geeks to the hospitals for hernias and heart attacks. "We got another DCSer incoming!" "What's the injury?" "Saw the F-18 Wagsday post and blew out his rectum." "Get me a colostomy bag stat!"
  15. I took it as him voicing his concerns for the DCS version based on his experience with the FSX version. I could be wrong of course, but that's how I read it.
  16. If they get multi-crew support working, I'd definitely buy an AC-130.
  17. Well, Nebel being bigger than I thought it was I should say, thought I was looking at small tubes in the screenshot until I saw the photo of the guy standing next to them. But yeah that 800mm is a big sucker there, and in this case I'd say bigger isn't always better. Can't imagine that being very effective in warfare, though I still wouldn't want it sending anything my way. Imagine the amount of Tiger tanks you could produce with the material it takes to make just one of those things. It does indeed my friend! Though it does take some willpower I will admit. Hell I initially thought about jumping into the anti-ship missile discussion going on. Because of my career and my time at NN shipyard I'm laughing at the claims of how easy it is to sink a carrier by someone who clearly doesn't know what they are talking about. But I can see what the discussion will degenerate into with this guy and it just isn't worth it to yell at a brick wall. So I decided to jump in here and shoot the bull with you guys. I'm sure the mods will appreciate me not wading into that one. Will make for a much more peaceful day on my end at least. A fellow 109 fan:) (obvious with the sig pic though lol). While the 190 is a great machine and likely a closer match for the P-51, I was disappointed it wasn't a 109. They bring that one out and I doubt I'll get much seat time in any other WWII bird.
  18. Could always slap a skin on a Raptor and pretend it's a T-50 carrying R-77s. Not the best of situations but it's something. Can't help with the J-20 though unless someone makes a model for it. Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a mod to turn the F-22 into either of these fighters.
  19. I have a feeling that when it comes to DCS servers, very few will allow F-22/F-35 to be a playable fighter.
  20. You are correct, T-38 will be first from them. F-14 and F-22 have also been given a green light by ED, but I don't believe there was any mention by IRIS of which of these will come after T-38 (not surprised, that is a bit down the pipe). I also don't believe they specified which model of F-14 either.
  21. We didn't miss that and it isn't a big deal. Beczl is preoccupied by MiG-21 development and will be for awhile. Not having a plan at the moment on a side project because he's preoccupied, isn't the same as "I can never do it so it won't happen".
  22. What Psyrixx said. I'd bet this is more likely user error and not a problem with "the worst DRM ever". If Psyrixx's suggestion doesn't work either contact ED with a support ticket, or come back here with a little less raging hormonal teen in your post and we can try to help you.
  23. I've seen some developers state that there is a learning curve with going from FSX to DCS. So it seems that at the moment it is a combination of learning DCS programming and the amount of work/research that goes into making a highly detailed aircraft. Once they start pumping planes out it'll just be the work/research that becomes a factor.
  24. Agreed and completely understandable. After wading into a few of those I'll admit it has gotten old (of which you probably know about and are hinting at based on the whistling smiley lol). A couple of years ago, I started a personal policy involving my interactions with people I encountered in real life involving politics - specifically people who generally made themselves out to be misinformed idiots. No matter how stupid their comments, I would ask myself two questions: Will arguing with this person change their mind? Will arguing with this person change the greater situation you are arguing about? If no to either, don't waste the time. While some may disagree on it being a waste of time when it comes to politics, it makes me a much happier individual to not bother with it. I think I should apply that more often to online interactions. It would waste less of my time and I'm sure the moderators would appreciate it, though they have never said anything to me and other posters seem to appreciate it based on the karma comments. But that doesn't change the fact it gets to be a big pain in my rear talking at brick walls, and it doesn't help keep the threads clean. On another note, just spotted this photo below. Didn't realize this thing was so big, seems the WWII Germans liked big guns just as much as Americans
