  1. I understand, point taken
  2. I share the same sentiment for the most part Sith. I got pretty annoyed with it as well and I jumped into the fray, because I saw some internet bullies lashing out personal attacks just because they got sand in the vag over an F-35, though I'm sure you mods didn't appreciate me doing it. But one thing I do disagree with you on is that I won't feel ashamed for the people who should be ashamed. To me that would be carrying a cross that isn't mine. Instead I'll sit back and chuckle that one of those guys is obsessed with the belief that I'm Kinney and is still fuming at me to this day. Worth it lol.
  3. My favorite will be coming in with DCS WWII next year, though I prefer the G model: Others mentioned previously in here also come to mind, so I'll put up two I'd like to see one day that I didn't notice being mentioned in this thread (though could have missed): Japanese Ki-61-II-KAI Hien (Artwork by itifonhom.deviantart.com) Russian Yak-3P
  4. I've been able to kill BMP-1's in the Huey, but I don't recommend doing that often or going after bigger fish. It is one thing to do it for target practice though, and another to do it on a mission. I usually don't lose anything other than getting some holes in the airframe when attacking one, but every now and then that BMP makes me take one through the windscreen or I get a bad hit elsewhere. Also if you are like me and like to set up a shooting range near to your FARP/Airfield, make sure you put the BMP's a good distance away. Trust me on that:smilewink: It is pretty much the same for the Mi-8. I often lose an engine from enemy fire. Also my pilot seems to be a bullet magnet in the Mi-8 and right now in the Beta it doesn't switch to the copilot. Many, many times I've watched helplessly as my unpiloted Mi-8 floats around erratically before finally crashing. I get shot through the windscreen A LOT in that one. Of course trying to take out IFV's in her wasn't the best idea I've had, got cocky with all those pods and usually paid for it.
  5. Figured I'd post the link to where you can find Shaw's book for purchase, though I'm sure it is available elsewhere as well: http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-Combat-Maneuvering-Robert-Shaw/dp/0870210599/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382487432&sr=8-1&keywords=shaw+fighter+combat I picked up a copy but unfortunately have been pretty swamped lately so I've only been able to get a couple chapters in, but it is worth it so far. Think it would be a good idea for any flight simmer to read it. Also Kylander's In Pursuit book has a published version if anyone is interested in a hard copy, assuming you don't feel like printing the PDF on the home printer. http://www.amazon.com/In-Pursuit-Pilots-Online-Combat/dp/9197607703/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y
  6. LOL immediately popped into my head when reading this, "I bet we beat the paramedics there by a half hour":D
  7. Same here, wouldn't have a problem with them releasing the Su-33 model before the cockpit. Though I admit I still can't fly it until the new pit comes in, after tasting the 6DoF cockpits I can't go back, I just can't! *Scratches at neck furiously*
  8. Can't say I'm surprised, when the kickstarter failed I figured it was a long shot he'd get other funding. Oh well, at least with DCS F-35 going away maybe now my stalker will get a life. Probably not though.
  9. Ouch! Of course I can't talk, my water landings with the Mi-8 haven't gone much better. Granted mine were involuntary with the pilot dead, engines out and upside down.
  10. Thanks for the heads up Mystic. I had a feeling that it would take more than a screen shot to prove the backing once a winner was selected. I hope I'm picked, but even if I'm not at least I've got a WWII sim and some rewards coming down the pipe in the future. Every community has its screwed up members, no matter what form that community takes. A recent experience I've had with one shows that there are just some messed up and rather sad people among flight simmers.
  11. It sounds like a cool idea, though I don't have the experience to say whether it'll work or not. If it does work, would be nice if someone could make an AC-130 model to replace C-130 model along with it (until we get the official one someday). Would love to see the flying doom machine circling a target in the game.
  12. While I'd love to know the answer to that, I highly doubt ED is ready to give that answer. And any answer they did give would potentially be subject to change by the time they released Edge. So I doubt they would want to risk it. No matter if ED and Wags stated in massive bold text that these specs could change and are not final, there are some people here who will take it as gospel, run out to buy something and then scream foul at ED when the spec changes.
  13. Not seeing where the Huey and Hip cockpits are cartoony vs ED cockpits. The Hip cockpit reminds me of the current FC3 flanker cockpit in appearance.
  14. The flight engineer has a very important purpose in the Mi-8. When I zip around the battlefield at tree top level with miniguns and grenade launchers blowing away mofos like Chuck Norris in Delta Force while chomping on a massive Cuban cigar lit for me by a virgin supermodel, the flight engineer is there to repeatedly whisper in my ear "Remember thou art mortal".
  15. Decided to double my pledge on this KS, would like to see it be successful. I'm sure DCS WWII will be made regardless, but with success of the KS it will happen much sooner which is what I'm hoping for. I'm hoping you are correct on making the 100k, I have to admit I'm concerned a little that we might not make it. Granted we had a large momentum early that carried it past the halfway point, and that we have 22 days left still, but things seem to have slowed down. At this point I'll be happy hitting 100k, I'm not expecting us to hit the first stretch goal unfortunately.
  16. You don't. At the moment you only have two options: armed and unarmed. Hopefully they will implement the option to arm the slick with door gunners at a later time.
  17. Super Cat is definitely better don't get me wrong. I'd rather have a "D" model over the "A" model. Just meant that if the only Tomcat we can get is an "A" model I'll take it, long as we get a Tomcat in game. Hopefully we can get both eventually, the "A" for older era missions and that "D" for more modern combat. Nice pics BTW!:D
  18. What Fishbreath said is also my understanding of why that circle moves after launch instead of staying on the target - it is to ensure you are lined up correctly each time, based on the FOV of each specific missile, so that after launch the missile can pick up the beam. My understanding of the Vikhr is that unlike a lot of beam riding weapons, the Vikhr looks aft to ride the beam rather than guiding by the reflection off the target. This is why the focus is on the FOV of the next missile, instead of the target.
  19. I get what you are saying 100% Penguin:) It definitely comes down to the experiences and focus of what each country dealt with. Battle of Britain for the UK folks, 8th Air Force/Midway for yanks like me, and for our Russian friends the Eastern Front. Here's hoping we'll eventually see all the necessary aircraft/theaters for all these battles.
  20. Understandable, everyone has their own thing. Even in this niche market. But flying level for some time in a B-17 isn't as boring as you might expect. There was a guy down my parent's street who flew B-17s during WWII, I didn't get to personally talk with him but based on what was relayed to me by others he had quite harrowing experiences - likely as much as any fighter pilot. If DCS 1944 has the ability to recreate that, I imagine it would be quite a scene. Fighter zipping around you, some putting holes in you others trying to put holes in those fighters. Your gunners are going to town and shouting out fighter positions over teamspeak. But you are more focused on trying to keep formation with the other bombers while you keep losing engines from the flak you took earlier, and wondering if you will be able to make the target let alone RTB. Then your copilot mentions something about a fire...
  21. Assuming that the sim is even made. Imagine if everyone pledging decided to wait for a free sim instead.
  22. Um, okay. Was not expecting that. I can see making one of them flyable to get people in the game, but all three? As for the Dora I'm wondering if this means she isn't coming out until September of next year? But if she does come sooner, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold off buying it just to wait until next September for the one I paid for with the KS. I'm kinda impatient like that, dangling a Dora in front of me before DCS 1944 gets released would be like waving a burger in front of a starving man. Well whatever, just get this thing built lol.
  23. Quite true! Especially when they get multi-crew function working. I have buddies who have no desire to invest in the peripherals that this type of gaming really needs for full enjoyment, but these same people would jump at the chance to hop behind a machine gun while I fly. Right now some of them just don't want to invest in flight sims because they don't see how flying on the sims can be fun. But I'm sure that over time their curiosity will get the better of them if they have a fun experience, and they will want to see what it is like to be the one behind the controls. So definitely looking forward to any multi-crew aircraft coming out, even if the feature isn't in game yet. It is only a matter of time before ED or a developer figures out how to implement it in DCS.
  24. * Would love to have an option to take the clam shells off and put more gunners in the helicopter like in this video, especially if/when they make it a multiplayer aircraft. Would be a lot of fun doing something like this is with multiple players. Don't know if this is something the Russians do or if this is custom, but still a cool idea if you have other people manning the guns (starts at :44 for the scene I'm talking about): *Would also like English labels. I realize the tooltips are in English, but it is faster to locate something when it is labeled in a language you recognize. That said I understand that this eats time and money, so if it has to be left to a player made mod (which someone seems to be working on right now) I can make do with that. * Guided muntions added at some point. I know it isn't planned, but when the Mi-24 comes out and if it has guided missiles (certainly hope so) then I'm sure those can be ported over to Mi-8.
