  1. Shutting down the server until I have the patience to try again. Waste of electricity at this point. DCS has crashed 6 times in the last 30 mins after updating to 1.2.6.17746 with no changes made to the mission file. So much for my hopes of improved MP performance.
  2. Maybe it's because it is my first day on the interwebs, but bold type followed by exclamation marks is generally interpreted as "yelling". I even began my reply with a compliment in an attempt to avoid such a caustic reaction from you... and you claim I am the one taking things personally. Also, I never claimed you were responding to me alone, did I? I think, despite not being your only target, I am still allowed to type a response. And despite your allegations, I actually did read your entire post. The part I referred to still remains in your super-sized version you so thoughtfully provided:) Originally Posted by PeterP People of the (DCS) World! 3. Woa, BOLD type and double exclamation. I have used several of your walk-thoughs and they have worked great. In this particular instance I was speaking about min/max zoom setting and editing the server.lua file was my preferred way of adjusting the view. It's a simple one line change and I like seeing the values in front of me. However, I'd be happy to refer anyone who asks again to your tutorial to avoid being yelled at.
  4. Was great fun the one time I participated... once we got the skins figured out :D Hope to be there again this Friday. Also, if you ever need an alternate server to host it, let me know.
  5. Or you can just ask for the info. I'd be happy to cut and paste it for my server. :)
  6. The reason for that number is that the default max zoom was so extreme I never used it and felt it was unnatural. I have flown 90% of my time online with just the normal zoom. I feel any magnification effect should just mimic a concentrated focus. I could never scan the sky around me for bandits with that incredible zoom. If there is a small speck I can't see good enough... I fly closer. I may modify it some going forward but that's the cool part of us all having the ability to customize these settings. :)
  7. There is for me... staring at it right now. /Saved Games/DCS/Config/View/
  8. Great suggestion, David. I've been wanting to mention this for a long time. Also it would be nice to have a way to save favorite servers. I know it was stated that MP is not a priority but a few "simple" features would go a long way, I think.
  9. That's strange. I backed my server.lua file then changed the values to what I have below I think. I kept changing it so I'm not sure exactly what I settled on. I had no problem saving. I don't like a huge zoom so I prefer it to appear as though you are focusing some but not telescoping. Saved Games/DCS/Config/View/Server.lua local GlobalCameraViewAngleLimits = {75,105} By the way, this changes your local view setting for all aircraft.
  10. I just changed mine... Look in: Saved Games/DCS/Config/View/Server.lua local GlobalCameraViewAngleLimits = {min, max} Set the min and max to the angles you want.
  11. Sign me up!
  12. This is everything but logical. If the B-17 is a module then it can be flown in either environment. I'm not sure where the confusion on that comes from. The "point" is that modules are independent of the era...or at least that is what has been proposed. There seem to be many unknowns still with the implementation so you are only going to get so far dissecting the details.
  13. Ummm, I know there is a lot to be emotional about but did anyone see this detail!!!!?
  14. and ground units...as far as I know.
  15. You should tell them that it may take a bit to master the "flying" part of the DCS: P-51D...we all know there is plenty of excitement in the beginning even without an enemy. :) Have you looked into bionic appendages? Maybe we can work a group purchase if you include a new ankle for me.
  16. Amen brother. It's slightly ironic that there is such a small contingent of people flying the North American P-51D online here in the US of A. Where is everyone? I feel like knocking on doors at this point.
  17. I have to say, it is a great thing to see this passion and people so protective over the sim they love. I feel the same way and I want DCS to truly achieve the incredible potential it has. My first comment is this: ED/RRG have to gear their product to an extent to "marketing metrics." It's a matter of survival. And we all need this to occur...despite what you think you may want. While I commend everyone for insisting on quality and fidelity, certain decisions are based off chances of success and risk mitigation. As has been said in prior posts, very delicately I must add, if the financial backing of this entire endeavor was dependent upon only the contributions of our devoted forum members, this project wouldn't have a chance. Funding is required and it has to be generated in a wide scope. Please try to be aware of the big picture while expressing "the love of the game". At the same time, I believe the forum is an invaluable tool for the developers to use in fine tuning the World to help make it run at its best. Of course we want it all, but like most things in life we should be happy to find a happy middle ground that keeps this effort moving forward and helps the genre stay far from extinction. I'm not talking about compromise as much as facing reality. Personally, I think the division of World and 1944 can work. I do agree there needs to be a common interface that displays what that specific user has purchased; World, 1944, or Both. And ideally, any differences in file structure or arrangement of data should be transparent to the average customer. Revision and configuration control will be crucial. I came here to try the A-10 & I stayed here because of the P-51D. I want very much to stretch it's legs in a true WWII environment. The key thing that I think we all want is expansion without compromise. That is a very tricky notion and there is not one piece of software I'd like to see succeed more than this one.
  18. If I understand the preceding 60+ pages correctly.... -The two cores are divided by era. Think present world vs. 1944. -Most aircraft will continue to be modules that can be shared between the two cores. -You can create your heritage flight with modern and WWII era aircraft in DCS:World and they will be flying in your modern environment (like an actual heritage flight) -OR you can do the reverse (think Final Countdown) and bring your Jet back in time to scare the crap out of the prop jobs :) Sounds like a win-win to me. Now, as far as the next year of waiting... Torture. At least we might have the 190 beforehand??
  19. Sorry, I came home to the server crashed to desktop. Doh. As far as difficulty... do you mean like realism settings? I'm not sure if there is an easy way to view them. What specifically do you want to know? I'd be happy to post it.
  20. Thank you. And I had planned on doing a write-up with what I found. There are much more complex builds out there but I wanted something I could throw together that provided the experience I was looking for. I will put together some info on the parts I used and what I learned along the way. The switch panel is actually mounted on a small speaker box and the box containing the throttle internals is just a metal project box you can easily find online. The hardest part was engineering a solution for the hall sensor. I came up with a plunger design that moves a rare-earth magnet towards and away from the sensor. I used the handgrip from an old Gameport Thrustmaster F-16 TQS. I wanted to make sure it worked well before I even mentioned it...but it has been exactly what I was looking for. I have put many good hours on it already flying the P-51D.
  21. Good stuff. Exciting times ahead.
  22. Revised the River Raiders 7 mission once again. Adjusted some of the units and added the frequencies of both airfields to the P-51 radios.
  23. Hey guys, I've been working over the fast several months on building an interface with a more tactile feel to fly our Stang. It's not identical to the actual P-51 layout but I think it's definitely more fun now. I have built up a switch panel and re-built an old throttle setup to compliment my Combatstick and Saitek Combat Pedals. I have to say, it is pretty cool to flip the toggles for each function and it makes starting the engine a little more enjoyable. Switching fuel tanks on the fly is a breeze and switching the guns to "hot" is always extra satisfying. I outfitted the throttle with an Allegro 1301 hall sensor in place of the original pot and it works like a dream. For the project I used two Leo Bodnar BU0836X units and have 32 switches and 6 axis inputs working between the two. With the WWII announcement looming I thought I'd share a picture of the progress. I've been using this setup to fly online for the past few weeks and I've been tweaking it constantly. The next step is to decide if I should paint it. I'm considering white to match my PC, a classic army olive drab or leaving it with a brushed aluminum look. -Merlin
  24. After the mourning period will you be finding another? :)

    DCS C-17

I personally think the C-17 and C-130 would be awesome additions. Possibly transport CA vehicles or paratroops? How incredible would that be!
