  1. If you mix the oil with gas you increase the viscosity which helps get things moving on a very cold start.
  2. I actually pulled it from the server because David would like to fine tune it some more. I'm working towards having a good rotation of MP missions on the server to include a little bit of everything. Not sure if they will be submitted as downloadable content but you are free to come by anytime and check them out.
  3. I upgraded the WWII server this morning. If you want to use it to test MP stability go for it.
  4. Currently running David's new mission "Home Invasion!" and I upgraded the server to 1.2.6.186 this morning. Hopefully it will help solve some of the stability issues.
  5. This. From what I understand it is modeled in DCS to allow you to dilute the cold sluggish oil right before cranking. In RL the pilot would have to dilute the oil right before shutdown in preparation for a super cold start. I recall reading about fires being built under the noses of German aircraft during their time spent in Russia.
  6. Well written. I think you expressed some excellent points.
  7. :) Thank you. And to clarify, it is not the only possible progression. However, we'd be following in some pretty great footsteps. By the way, I just finished reading "1000 destroyed." If you can find a copy, check it out.
  8. Now we are on the same page. THAT excitement is worth millions. IMO we NEED to think big. How do we build a strong base of pilots that don't get frustrated and quit when they are thrown into an unforgiving fighting machine. Some can handle this, and we are still flying, but lets make sure we allow every level of interest and skill have their fair shot at catching the bug. Can't hurt to throw ideas around and see what sticks.
  9. Very happy to see this. I think it's brilliant to take advantage of the incredible amount of ambition and talent in this community. Imagine if just a fraction of the energy spent ranting was focused on map-making! I kid, I kid. I vote for Debden first :)
  10. It's all been said. Then there's just plain practice :) you can know all the tricks and still bounce her from time to time. The cool part is that once you have spent enough time... recovering from minor mistakes is second nature.
  11. One Free Aircraft - The Poll Some good lively discussion on this topic. I honestly thought there was some real value in the trainer idea and worth discussing even if the decision for the free aircraft has been made. It is a stepping stone to allow newcomers to ease their way into DCS. As has already been proven, many current fliers in the community don't require the combat element to get enjoyment from DCS. I think learning the ropes during a guided tutorial in an AT-6 would be pretty cool. Or imagine being able to jump into the storch and help spot some ground targets! There is much potential. My case for offering the Spit first was based mainly on the fact that many did progress from Spit to 47 to 51. Can't be too wrong to follow the progression of the actual WWII pilots. Just my opinion.
  12. Check out this thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=102720 There was a time when this was the rage. Quite a fun little challenge.:D
  13. Yes, try moving laterally to the side more... it's back there.
  14. You can use the bomb salvo levers as well, I believe.
  15. I doubt too many people are "panicking." The people who have backed this effort, some of us substantially, have every right to offer our input on this forum. (Not to mention, input on the topic was requested) If anyone on here still needs convincing to donate the cost of less than one full priced module then I'm not so sure much is going to sway them. To many of us, offering everything for free does not seem like the best route to keep this dream alive and this is the time to decide what happens.
  16. Firstly, David, I think this was a good piece of information for Luthier to have at his disposal. Whether he uses it is his decision, and I think we all understand that. I voted Spit myself. I figure it is beneficial to at least have each of the first available aircraft from different countries of origin, not to mention the popularity of the Spitfire. Also, all things considered, I would guess it to be the easiest aircraft to just jump in and get going. It helps that the airframe is a very stable one regarding wing loading and such too. I love the Jug but I do think it will have a higher learning curve and thereby not the best "starter" aircraft for the release. Adding a trainer aircraft could also be a great way to ease people into the experience, like Mac recommended. This will make the difference on how many people we bring into the genre.
  17. Glad you came by and flew with us! Welcome back to flying the Mustang.
  18. I agree with David on this point. The AI is just fine with the exception on the gun accuracy. Although I've been getting better at predicting and evading when they begin their rain of "guided lead" you are most definitely torn to shreds if do not see them the second they are on your tail. (or anywhere in the vicinity with the nose facing you) As far as flying characteristics, there are plenty of people flying MP that can work more "magic" than the AI.
  19. +1 I agree 100%. It's a lot to ask people to take a leap of faith to fund all future expansion. I'm happy to see we are at a point to help build a strong base with a bunch of great aircraft. Once we have that knocked out we can see where we go from there. I really believe there will be plenty to keep everyone busy once we get the Mustang, Dora, Spit, Jug and 109 of DCS quality in the same airspace over Normandy! Can you imagine it?
  20. I just try to think of the 190 AI as a very resilient practice drone. If you only hit him dead astern it may take a lot of bullets. If you hit the cockpit or engine it will ignite quite fast. Try different deflection shots. There is a big difference from peppering shots all over the a/c and concentrating firepower in a specific area. I did prove however that our P-51D tails do not re-grow, after an unfortunate incident yesterday. I was able to resume flight after a few tense moments but yaw control was a bit of a challenge.
  21. Might be interested in this... Can't find much on dates of use besides '45.
  22. MP Dogfight Saturday is currently underway... come on by!
  23. A few more shots of the action. I got these from the multiplayer tracks.
  24. A couple of good screenshots from the event... wish I had taken more.
