Thanks, Mac! See you in the skies soon?:pilotfly:

Server now running 1.2.6.18933 Also the official name for my server is now [Dogs of War] WWII Combat Server to reflect the name of our new squadron. The AI aircraft in most of the missions has been removed due to the increased traffic and regular MP activity. Everyone is welcome to come by and fly no matter your experience level or affiliation. The only thing I require from you is a reasonable level of respect towards other flyers and a decent attitude. Enjoy!

I just tried the mission. Spawned in the first US plane. Started up and ran like a champ with the left wing tank selected.

Yes, In a fight I typically keep the RPM at 3000 aside from a few rare instances. Not necessarily. Lots of torque pulls left...but LESS torque allows a better _____ turn. :smilewink:

Very very interesting topic. There has been quite a lot of discussion about the optimal settings for each scenario and people have reported benefits from some unique variations during combat. (Example: Decreasing manifold pressure in a high speed climb) while seemingly counter-intuitive is there any possibility of these "tricks" working? I know this was not normal procedure in RL but us sim pilots have the luxury of experimenting more than they did without the fear of repercussions. I personally, use the torque effects of the engine to my advantage when turning but I typically only change the throttle and hardly ever use WEP.

Roll back the canopy then eject/bail.

Haha ok fair enough. Has anyone ever seen the tail of a P-51D regrow? I see the 190 regrow a tail about once every 3 shootdowns. I've NEVER seen one fall off or regrow on an AI or client Mustang.
-
That's all good but my point was that "in game" you will not pass out or puke and have the same "capabilities" as the AI.

I'm sure your methods are "correct" but DCS has had some interesting quirks from time to time. At one point, and I'm pretty sure it is still the case, starting with 0% throttle is the easiest way to get her up and running. I know it is not the documented "correct practice" but we have helped many many people get away from their frustrations with that notion. And then it may truly be a bug with that loadout... I'm sure someone will try the mission and chime in. I won't be able to try it until later today. Also, no one mentioned temperature... that plays a big part as well along as wind conditions.

Three American, Three German, One British aircraft...
Merlin-27 replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
How does number of bombs dropped have any bearing on which fighter planes get chosen for the sim? I think it's wise to pick the most iconic aircraft of the period and from what I can see that's exactly what they are doing. When the DCS bomber age begins... well then your argument would make more sense. -
You could always post a track of your attempts as well. I'm not sure if it was suggested yet but that is one of the best ways to get some assistance. There may be on critical thing that is causing your frustration.

Me-262 within reach - will you get it?

The Logo thread! Haha I'd like to have them all as well. But we will all be very old men by the time of completion if we go that route. Sorry, no intention of derailing the topic. Back to logo/icon discussion...

This is the place to ask questions. Don't stop because we replied to your posting. Some of us can be a tad protective of our sim :) but most have good intentions. Also be sure to browse some existing threads. Several of these important issues have been discussed at great length. As far as what you said on EDGE and processor requirements, i think we are all hoping it is truly a more efficient engine that will give us better results with existing hardware. One major issue is core usage. It would be nice to take advantage of a few more cores and leave the annoying FPS issues in the dust.

It is simply a suggestion and being that it's an awkwardly long name to begin with, as expressed by Luthier himself, it will be one busy icon if all the words are "required." If Luthier does not like it he does not have to choose it. I don't think too much harm can come from giving options... Especially logical ones. Brand/product recognition is vitally important. That is all the more reason to pick something clean, professional and appealing.

But isn't that akin to saying the Fw190-A was a good airplane? If the thought is to keep the P-38 in the Pacific only that is fine. But I figured the optimal choice would be to have the aircraft at or near it's optimal configuration, especially when interchangeability is considered. P-51D, FW190-D9...
-
Have to be careful with Pacific 1943. I really want to see the P-38L which was not around yet. Maybe we will see it in Europe.
-
Damn I had a great reply involving healing bulldozers.

After reading though this thread something came to mind... If the idea is to attach a year to each subsequent addition to the WWII era will we see Pacific 1944 or 45 or ? Will it not be possible to add a different theater/map? If there was to be for example an Italy campaign would that have to be another standalone install? It seems to me that a mechanism for expansion pack type products would be beneficial down the road. Also as far as icons are concerned, maybe someone could attempt one with just a prominent EUROPE 1944. IMO the WWII is understood at that point and paired with an aircraft themed graphic would make for a nice clean icon.

So then what is the explanation for the human pilots who fly directly behind the AI and often in a superior manner? Would you say the G-forces are also inaccurate on the client side? It can be done and is done on a daily basis. I'm not saying the AI cannot improve... But as far as the flying, Seems pretty good to me. There is the occasional lawndart into the deck and you will not see too many "human-like" mistakes but from what I've seen the gun accuracy is the only obvious "problem" with it, along with the damage model of course.

SO, are you saying the P-51D is not as much of a simulation as the A-10C? I'm guessing you have not flown the Mustang. That detracts a bit from the credibility of your statements.

New Rewards Matrix - Great Gifts?
Merlin-27 replied to MACADEMIC's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Glad to hear it, Mac. Yes, flying with your friends in DCS:World! Come on back! :) the WWII combat server is ready and waiting. -
Ah yes. I guess I misunderstood the term. Since it is a measure of resistance... high viscosity is "thicker"
