  1. Are we seriously discussing here if this should stay or not? If the server owner decides to simulate RL navigation than it should not be available. If you don't like playing DCS as hard-core, then join servers that do offer unrealistic aids, as to your liking. From what I understand, cheating is doing something that is not allowed. So how is having a magic position marker on a server where the F10 map navigation was turned off, not cheating?
  2. Would be great if we could have general improvement of the effect on the pilot, such as G-force, damage, loss of pressure and so on. At the moment it seems kind of arcade-ish that the pilot can go in and out of blackout endless number of times. It would be awesome if we had some realistic G tolerance that has a compounding effect. Would also be nice if the pilot would get tired after aggressive flying or just after some time of heavy maneuvering. I would also be nice if after the airplane gets hit, that the pilot has issues as impaired hearing, loss of visual focus and so on.
  3. Not really true, as it's described in detail quite nicely in this 1962 USAF video
  4. I know it's a bug, but it's also a good opportunity to practise evasive maneuvers untill this gets fixed. I doubt RWR in RL (could be wrong also) is always accurate with regards to LA warnings.
  5. What 29 does have however, is a target marker on the HUD that is sent from the GCI along with the intercept instructions. Now that would be a nice-to-have.
  6. I think we keep forgeting that Soviets/Russians had different phylosophy when it comes to air combat and DCS doesn't really paint that picture very well - at least not on MP servers. One should not compare any blue/red plane direclty. Soviets relied on integrated air defences and this is almost not simulated at all. We mostly have all the weapons available in DCS as well as endless amounts of fuel and so on. When things are taken out of context like this, of course then that a 29A looks like a trash can compared to a 15C, for example. Not to mention ECM and one million other things.
  7. Would be nice if fake RWR sources show up on the display when other aircraft have their ECM on - just saying.
  8. We are used to suffering by now.
  9. Version "A" is the older basic variant. Version "G" is the NATO version of "A" - if I am not mistaken. Version "S" ("C") is the newer version which has: ECM, R-77, TWS and ER/ET missiles.
  10. Did a quick search about kites. Got this, among other results:
  11. True that, I didn't really concider the big picture.
  12. Would be great of you cold share how these numbers are calculated. I am no expert, but how can something produce lift at 30 deg AoA? This is a genuine question and I would love to know more about it.
  13. I could be wrong on this one, but I think missiles should have "top" speed due to drag. What I mean by this is that aircraft speed should not just be added to the missile. For example: if the launch platform goes M10.0 the missile should not go M12.0.
  14. I think this "speed is life" phrase is a bit over simplified. Sure, if you need to concentrate entire air combat into couple of words, that's fine. However speed on it's own means nothing. Speed in air combat is like having money in normal life. You can cashe it in for something - usually angles or position. The same way you can't eat money, speed alone doesn't mean much. Also, energy is alt+speed, as you can have one fghter high and slow and another low and fast with both of them having the same energy state.
  15. Myth or not, it's in RL manual.
  16. Please don't forget that Su-27s can support each other's missiles, meaning one can be the shooter and the other one is providing the radar/DL and also Flankers can receive target information from other sources like ground stations. What I mean by this is not the top-down picture from the DL but actual targets on the HUD.
  17. Lol this is a joke. First of all how did it manage to miss a target from around 2km?
  18. How about 8v8 situation, for example? 8 Flankers with with ECM on, against 8 Slammer carriers. When the 27s start flanking sneaking and so on. It would get messy pretty quickly and this is the kind of environment where the Flanker thrives, with its EOS and ETs. 1v1 is or 2v2 is kind of simple scenario where the Flanker has a clear disadvantage, but scale it up a bit and you have a very capable machine, even though you can only engage one target at a time with SARHs.
  19. Would be great if you could provide more info about this claim.
  20. I always wondered: does a Dopler radar need frequency shift in order to see targets at all, or does it just need it against the ground clutter?
  21. You might be on to something there. I did notice that my EOS lock drops the instant I designate a target, but sadly I can't pinpoint what exact airplane it was. My bet is that ECM, for some strange reason, causes this. My guess is FA-18 but I can't tell for sure. However, from what I remember, I don't recall seeing any ECM on my HUD.
  22. Here's the long 27T double kill I was talking about. It's the same server, by the way. https://i.imgur.com/T12O7NH.gif Self note: track file name ...20210430-161346...
  23. If you watch the recording you can see that the speed does not change much, so I would rule out the AB. Maneuvering was minimal and no flares were used. A part from shots being fired from the front hemisphere it was a perfect opportunity to hit. Ranges were from 11km down to 1.3km so well above the Rmin. That last barrage of 73's was me trying to see what will eventually happen. This is not the first time such a thing has happened, but I usually have a habit of firing only one to two missiles. This time I wanted to test what the hell is going on, and hence why I sent all of the IRs. After the 27R left the rail, I had a feeling it would hit, which they did. So this leads me to believe that some sort of MP+IR combo is to blame. There is no way this can happen in SP, and I suspected some MP bug since none of them tracked at all. Except for the very first 27T, the rest just flew straight. When it comes to target aircraft, I'm under the impression that FA-18 and F-16 suffer from this as I usually have no problem hitting F-15s even when they maneuver and flare. Heck, I had a double kill with 27Ts from 25km, but I said those were Eagles. One didn't maneuver at all (first kill), but his wingman started a split-s and flaring, but was also hit. I will do a SP replica and also try to record the entire MP encounter from within the cockpit, if possible.
  24. I have a feeling that this might be a dynamics problem. I would have to do more research, but I think it would have to do with the object's impulse and the magnitude of the drag force produced.
  25. An how can the missile tell which is the "real" target and which one is not? The DL does not navigate the missile to the target, but puts it in the area where the missile seeker can pick the target up. That's why all radar-guided missiles have homing heads. If the two airplanes in front of the missile merge (friendly and foe), how can the missile tell which one it should go for? It can't.
