The hobbldy hoy nature of the ground handling
Krupi replied to Damocles's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
And also why you see a lot of images of people sitting on the tail during taxing There are a few well known incidents where the pilot forgot about the poor chap/gal weighing them down and promptly took off with the taxi weight LOL -
I have to agree with all of that, now we know VEAO plan on doing a mossie :D what for the axis side JU88? Of course VEAO have a Lancaster planned which would blow me away.

Adjustable gun convergence, Ammo type
Krupi replied to Moafuleum's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Historically correct to what? A predetermined convergence not what any pilot decided it should be willy-nilly -
Sure, when I get some time I plan on doing some thorough test and save the tracks. currently I have experienced the issues only online

Hardly a fair comparison is it now? Like I said if one can prove a certain convergence was used I am all for it being added, I just don't want to see custom ones with zero historical evidence to back it up. -
Do you recall the initial release of the 109? It had a very similar issue in that during turns the wings tips would simply rip off, that was fixed and it is no longer a problem. If you want to ignore the issue go ahead, however I refuse to. Until they resolve the issue of the wings failing under relatively benign manoeuvres I will not stop digging up evidence of the contrary. Balance? What on earth does balance have to do with anything this is DCS

Hi Yo-Yo I just stumbled upon this scan from "Spitfire: The History, Morgan Eric" and using repaired wings were able to test them up to 12G. Unfortunately I don't have this book myself however I know it is very well known.

The hobbldy hoy nature of the ground handling

Load up a track of your landing. The vast majority of my landings at the beginning were terrible, once I slowed down and started to dance on the pedals things became a lot easier however far from perfect, if I lose concentration I will scrap a wing tip. Remember this product is far from being released so this could improve. -

LOL My apologies made a right pigs ear out of that, they should work fine now :) -

Fantastic WW2 video of a heavy landing, it does sway quite a bit. Another landing it is wobbling, quite a bit see the rudder being worked constantly. Another, Yo-Yo posted this before.. you can see the wobble and the rudder input, perhaps the wobble is a bit over exaggerated? Another WW2 one from 4:30... Keep an eye on the tail wheel it is flicking all over the place. -

I think it is all about speed, you need to be landing with no faster than 80mph. Look how slow this landing is and look how much that caster wheel is bouncing. It does seem a bit more of a handful than all the real life videos :D -
Interesting I don't ever recall reading a statement to that affect, who posted it?

As was the Spit XIV ;)

I really don't want this feature and personally I would say it is far from essential, lets keep it historical! I you can prove a certain convergence was used or that a certain belt arrangement was used officially then I think a list of these should be added to the game however I really don't want to see personal convergences and belts it would only be abused. -
Well I experienced it again, sorry no track it was online :( I was in a shallow dive at around 400-450mph and I pulled up only a few degree to level out and BANG goes my left wing, around half way through the roundel it seems to always be the left wing at the same spot? I am sure there is something not right.

Spitfire better than P-51D for online matches?
Krupi replied to TripRodriguez's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Personally & I think people wouldn't mind me speaking on behalf of the vast majority of the community if I say that what we want is not a FAIR fight, what we want is historically correct to a certain period of a theatre or aircraft line-up. Dora, Kurfurst, Tempests and XIV are not common in the theatre we are getting however as we have been informed many times the aircraft we are getting were not decided by ED and they have to fulfil this commitment. Honestly while I am looking forward to jumping in a Tempest, ME262 and XIV I would rather see the likes of a Fw 190A, Typhoon and 109G. I would love a Typhoon even though it would be badly outclassed against even Antons and Gustavs never-mind Dora's and Kurfursts... Simple put people want historical not fair. Or at least I do :megalol: -
Polychop-Simulations were supposed to be working on it, however that may no longer be the case... see the thread below. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=156340

Spitfire better than P-51D for online matches?
Krupi replied to TripRodriguez's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Well that is certainly harder with two p-51 as the 109 can just climb away from both of them while the spitfire can initially keep up with the 109 -

Krupi replied to TripRodriguez's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Give people the chance to learn the pro's and con's of the aircraft. I think if you ask any 109 pilot if the spitfire has had an impact I am 100*% sure that they will tell you that the skies are not as safe as they once were with the arrival of the spitfire. This will be confirmed once the stats from burning skies have been released. P.s. the aircraft is in beta and has some teething issues which need to be resolved as well, I still think the wings come off far too easily and I have already adjusted my flying to try and avoid this. -

They definitely can help each other. P-51 climb with the spits protecting them at this vulnerable stage and then act as top cover when the axis aircraft attempt to run. They complement each other incredibly well, using each others advantages to support one another. I have seen this teamwork in action. -

 Arguably the two highest scoring western front allied aircraft described as trashy... LOL -

Spitfire better than P-51D for online matches?

During my first few flights I was completely blown away by how manouverable the aircraft is I was also blown away by how quickly I was burning the engine now I can still turn just as well and I don't have issues with blowing my engine, I was simply going to slow with full throttle. Now I know what to do, should I in any situation find myself slower than 180 mph I need to increase my speed or drop my boost. Dropping boost doesn't mean the advantage goes to the 109 if he is at the same altitude i can still follow him in a climb, at least initially I certainly can't do that in a p-51. When I have come across a 109 with altitude and speed advantage I can avoid his passes on me until I have increased my own altitude and last time this happened the 109 pilot refused to turn, in the end from a bad position I ended up going into three/four head on passes before the 109 realised he had lost his advantage and decided to drag me over to his base. At that point I was able to disengage and safely RTB. Now if in this situation I was in a P-51 I simply wouldn't know what to do other than run... If I were to climb I lose speed and therefore also my ability to avoid his passes, personally I would feel my only option would be to try and run for home. The spitfires ability to retain energy appears to be on par or greater than the 109. Of course we could go back and forth for weeks discussing which aircraft is better in a certain situation. As has been said in the thread it is down to personal preference, you can either you stick to the aircraft you fly well or learn to fly your favourite aircraft in a way that you can succeed. Take the 190, it is constantly vying for top position in my favourite list with the spitfire yet in the game the 109 suits my tactics a whole lot more than the 190 does. However when flying the spitfire I find the 190 to be my biggest threat because those that have stuck with it know how to fly it, just like the P-51 pilots they know which fights to enter and which to avoid. This I think can be the downfall of the 109 and spitfire pilots, because they know they could win they don't refuse the fight when perhaps they should. Like you say they overcommit, however it is because they know they could win.
