Yes and no. Yes for the new MB, but no for old MB, and for old I can refer to an Asus X58 board, like the P6T V2 with support for i7 Nehalems. And just updating the BIOS does not updates the device drivers that Windows uses. Intel has chipset software updates, but a different thing is Windows installing all the controllers for the all devices automatically as it should be. That is why I advise to update them, say, once at least.
