  1. First I'm going to dispel the theory that he dove for cover. Unless it was a flying submarine I doubt he had anywhere to go. Even so, from that angle and altitude there wouldn't have been anywhere to go. Second, waiting at least 15 seconds to do a split-S then outrunning it? Not likely. Third, I know I said it's possible he notched but at those altitudes at that range? Probably not but I'm not throwing out that possibility. Fourth, I'm not one to spaamram. Just in that case I was tired of missiles not hitting. And I still didn't get a hit after six. Say bad tactics all you want but unless you know what I do then you can't say otherwise. They have even missed at less than 6-8 miles at AI targets from a head on aspect. I know tail is better but you don't always get that. Fifth, your guesses on what happened are no more legitimate than mine so saying that I didn't stick around to see what happened isn't a good argument either. Just so that everybody is aware, he was cranking at me when he went past my radar gimbals. Unless I was up against Superman, I would imagine that at least one of six should have hit. And just to clarify, I know that IRL AIM-120Cs aren't instant kill weapons when used at X distance from the target, however seeing this poor of performance doesn't quite add up. And GG, even you said that inside of 15 NM the bandit is pretty much dead. Anyway, I've said my piece on the topic. It's frustrating to play BVR combat in this state.
  2. Considering 6 missiles were fired at him while he was head on I figured he notched, unless missiles are worse than I thought. I never actually lost my lock until he went off my scope. That's when I'm guessing he notched to avoid at least the first missile but I can't say for sure since I'm guessing. How else do 6 missiles miss at that range with that altitude advantage? My first missile was off the rails at 13 NM. My last one was at about 9 NM. He fired shortly after my last missile, about 15 seconds since my first one. I'll continue this tomorrow night. It's late here.
  3. How big of a notch are we talking about about? And I wasn't aware you could launch at targets at a 90 degree angle. I ran because he fired at me.
  4. Really could use some updates on this. I decided to try flying online for the first time in ages with the F-15 (essentially I gave up on BVR a while ago due to the uselessness of missiles). Flew up to around 20k feet when I saw a bandit at 11k fairly close. He was head on and by the time I fired my first missile he was about 13 NM away from me, still head on. I decided to go for broke since I wasn't doing so hot anyway and fired the remaining 5 AIM-120Cs that I had. So from 20k feet at a bandit at 11k 6 missiles were shot in a matter of several seconds. Last missile came off the rail at about 9 NM distance. Lock was of course maintained at all times but I had to bug out shortly after the last missile since he launched at me. And to my extreme disappointment all 6 missed. 6 AIM-120Cs all missed. Now I understand he probably notched a couple but I find it extremely unlikely to notch all 6 while still being able to fire on me. I'm certainly not a great pilot at BVR and I know when I screw up but this doesn't seem acceptable. Missiles that just decided to not work this much doesn't make for an enjoyable experience.
  5. I went ahead with this model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006 Has a ton of good reviews on it.
  6. Do you have mirrors on? What about in the A-10? And the most important question. What kind of hardware do you have? I'm afraid to do that even with a 780 GTX.
  7. I would rather they sort out the current network code before adding something huge like voice. TS3 + TARS works just fine for the time being and there are many more important things the devs could be working on. Besides, would anybody even use it? There's few people that even use TS3 without TARS.
  8. Wow. You have 1024 every frame for your cockpit displays resolution? Doesn't that kill your FPS?
  9. 5000 is not too high. It's possible to drop mk-82s onto tanks and other vehicles at 8,000 feet or more. At 1,000 feet you'll get chewed up by anything with a gun, and you better hope there's no manpad or strela nearby. Right now there is a very simple hit point system in place which is why a close but not direct hit won't do much.
  10. Making the proximity larger wouldn't solve anything. It would be a cheap bandaid to cover up the lack of a proper proximity fuze. It could then explode too far away from the aircraft to do any real damage. I'd rather they use the the hitbox of the plane to measure distance.
  11. Thanks for the write up Bucic. I know for a fact when I put a sound card in my old Mobo the sounds improved immensely. Everything sounded so much clearer and crisper. The bass had bass and nothing sounded flat. I'm using onboard right now and I'm seriously considering a card. It sounds alright but I'm sure it could be better. Problem is, I don't know which card to use. My last card was a Creative which I cannot fit into my current PC so I'll need a new card for sure. I've heard mixed results with both Asus and Creative, but which is better?
  12. Gotta go with what pays the bills.
  13. The WWII genre is feeling a little played out over all types of games but in this type of gaming it's understandable. We demand as much accuracy as possible, but it's difficult, comparatively speaking, or impossible to get all the data on the various systems and performance data needed for 4th gen fighters. We can rule out 5th gen unless we want arcade mode. 3rd gen is about the best we're going to get if we want 100% realism. 4th gen is still going to omit some of the secret stuff, but the majority of it should be close enough for our needs. Remember, not even the A-10C is fully modeled to the newest IRL version and some things had to be contractually omitted.
  14. Does this count? It flies and can do combat.
  15. So is ed okay with us putting their logo on stuff? Assuming it's for personal use only.
  16. It wouldn't be hard to make one, but I imagine there would be some sort of legal restriction.
  17. Here's a few of my favorite images that I took from an airshow yesterday. Sorry about the blurriness in some of them. Still learning best techniques for airshow shooting. http://imgur.com/a/HV3ZY
  18. I wish I could help too. Would love to donate time and help out if I could. Sadly I don't know anything about modeling or programming something this complex.
  19. Hi. I removed all the old grease from mine and used M-kote EM-30L as a replacement. However I'm not seeing much of a difference with the sticktion. Any ideas?
  20. I flew with Ralfi, Linebacker, and Scat (don't know how to spell his name) a couple times. Even have my voice in one of his videos, but they are a good group to fly with. I just wish I had time to fly more.
  21. But a 2500k and a 4670k have two different architectures so comparing them doesn't make any sense. If you want hyperthreading and a little more L3 cache then the i7 would be worth the extra cost, but it won't make much, if any difference for games. Having a higher cache is better for processes that are easily to guess for queuing up the next set of data for the CPU to process, like video rendering. Games are too irregular most of the time to make much use of the higher cache. Comparing a 4670k and a 4770k, you will see zero difference for DCS. DCS is still a single core (not including the separate thread for sound) so anything more than 2 cores, virtual or real, is excess if we're talking strictly games. I'm fully aware the background processes can be done on the remaining cores so a 4 core with no hyperthreading is still plenty for DCS.
  22. As the others have said, a 4770k is plenty. If all you're going to do is gaming save some cash and go with the i5. You'll see zero difference in gaming performance.
  23. I've done head on shots with ERs against F-15s and the AI didn't do anything other than deploy air brakes. Usually a rear aspect shot won't alert the AI to any inbound missile either. @hypersonik No it does not. It has a TEWS which includes a RWR but no MWS so it cannot pick up missile launches unless they were radar guided and fired at the F-15.
  24. They do break lock from what I've seen, but usually if the AI fires on you then you're already through burn through range. Exception I've seen is with the F-15's ECM you can get closer to Sa-6's and 11's but if you get close enough for burn through then you're in the NEZ.
