  1. As another example I posted a few pics about my wireless 3.7v TCP setup in original thread here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98237&highlight=wireless+trackir&page=2
  2. I don't do multi-monitor, but maybe I can throw in there my two cents on a few points. (for what it's worth) -If you do multi monitor setups for gaming, minimum is 3 (then keep an odd number), or else the middle of the image will be right on a border screen, which got to be the most annoyest thing ever. (Unless you can get your hand on a borderless monitor, if it even exists) -In terms of graphic power, the size of the screen doesn't matter too much, only the resolution. That said, the higher the size the higher the resolution should be unless you like icons the size of your fist like the good old days. -You have to find what size suits you, depending on what distance you usually stands in front of the screen. Basic rule though is that you are after a good ratio between visibility (resolution) and space (screen size) too tiny a screen and you'll barely see a thing, too big and you'll hurt you neck and waste time scanning from one side of the screen to the other, not able to see the whole picture and having to do too big movements with your mouse. Though is you're using 3 monitors I'm not sure that's even relevant ahah. -Preferred screen size ratio these days are 16/9 but it works best for single monitor setups, you might wanna use a more squared standard 4/3 ratio for a 3 screen setup. -You will need a great amount of graphic power for a 3 screen setup, so to keep thing pretty you probably have to go with the flagship of current or last gen cards and not the general versions but their high memory versions (usually double the memory) as multi screen eat graphic card's memory a lot. A single GPU should handle it fine but a lot of multi monitor setups ends up being powered by SLI (or Xfire) GPUs which is a whole other lot of potential issues to make that work. [most goes for water cooling too given the amount of heat all of that generates but obvsly that's a matter of personal preferences and time/money investment] -Take good note that playing multi monitors isn't a matter of plug'n play, it varies a lot from game to game, sim to sim, but it's usually a lot of tweaking, soft settings, info browsing etc. Few games support it and you usually have to rely on 3rd party softs to make it work. Hopefully there'll be a nice community with ppl that already been there and are rdy to help you out. -That doesn't apply for your radio hobby though (cool hobby!) but also consider the Occulus Rift that, if successful on the design side of things, might make multi monitor setups archaic! It supposedly is coming in the very near future. I was looking to build myself a 3 screen setup some months ago but I though (and still am thinking) the Occulus Rift will offer 100% what we are trying to achieve these days with multi-monitor setups. So in the end I just use a good 16/9 1920x1080 main screen with a tinier 4/3 screen on the side for other stuff like tools when I'm working or references, tutos, maps when I'm playing etc and saved the money for a potential buy of the Occulus if they manage to develop a consumer version with a good enough resolution and with 6 dof movement detection.
  3. I don't have that joystick and I'm not sure what you mean exactly by 'slop'. Your joystick is too responsive or not enough? You could try to play with the axis curves in-game in the control options, it usually does the trick. Diminish the responsiveness near the center so you can be precise near the center and add to the outer curve so that the further away you get from the center with your joystick the more responsive it gets. It can translate by simply adding a 'curvature' of 30 for example in both pitch and roll axis in the control options. To do that use the 'axis tune' button on the bottom of the screen when highlighting the pitch (or roll) axis on the JOY line command, make sure you are in the relevant aircraft's control option, you select the aircraft on the top left hand corner. Play with it until you feel comfortable in flight.
  4. GTX 660 TDP is 140W I7-3770k TDP is 77 W Graphic cards and Processor are by far your two main wattage draw source. So technically you'd be even fine with a 500W power supply. The thing with Power supply though is that it's a very important part of a computer and if you buy a very good one (in term of quality, high wattage doesn't mean it's quality) then it will last you for a long time and doesn't have to be replaced when you're upgrading or replacing other parts. 750W is a good number for a gaming rig yes, if you plan on spending a bit more today to save money tomorrow then maybe go for a bit more wattage to be sure you'll never want to upgrade/change it in a very long time. 900-1000W should put you on the safe side. 100% modular power supplies are great too, you just use the PS slots you need so no unnecessary cables around. For example some time ago I personalty went for a Seasonic 1000w Platinium: -1000w is all most could ever need. It comes in lower wattage variants ofc as 1000w is in most cases overkill. -high quality PS are rock solid and stable (that's why they're not afraid to throw in a 7 year warranty) -100% modular -80+ Platinum rating, the higher the more efficient power is (80+ < 80+ Bronze < 80+ Silver < 80+ Gold < 80+ Platinum) 80+ is around 80% power efficiency, 80+ Platinum is around 90% -Nice heat dissipation and dead silent (the internal fan doesn't even start spinning until temp > 25°C which is most idle temp or desk apps. Even on full load fan noise is covered by a working HDD anyways. A PSU is a very important part of a rig and often overlooked, I'd suggest you invest good money in it first to save a lot more later! :) My advice would be to go for an older processor, the only real advantage an i7-3770k has over an i5-3750k for example is hyper threading which isn't used by most apps and games anyway. Save a hundred dollars there and spend a hundred more on the PSU. You can check i5-3750k vs i7-3770k threads and pro reviews all over the web. Other than that looks good, maybe get a tinier SSD and use it only for OS and your few favored games, 64Gb for example, then use a fat 2-3Tb good old HDD, anything installed on the HDD will still use the OS memory files which are on the SDD so you get the best of both worlds, room and speed. SSD nice and fast but it's just the worst Mb/$ ratio.
  5. Tell me about it, I just had to buy a new pair of headphones too and was going for the Astro A50. I didn't go for wireless though, I spend way too much time with it on a day, I'd have to charge the thing every minute Im not using it and plugging in plugging off all day long every time I take a break would be tedious so I went for its wired counterpart (A40 2013 ed). Still, I dislike the track clip Pro USB cable with some passion. Enough to cut it off and hook a tiny 3.7v cellphone battery (very thin, very light weight and more importantly we all got one hanging around from our previous cellphone we don't know what to do with), works like a charm, just use a little switch in there and all should be well. Note that given it's not the usual 5v the IR leds aren't as bright but as far as can tell it doesn't change a thing. EDIT: Figured It wouldn't hurt to throw in a few photos.
  6. When browsing you can zoom in or out using ctrl+mouse wheel.
  7. Like SkateZilla said it places DCS under big spotlights. Any game getting on Steam suddenly has a whole lot more attention and sales. That's money in ED's pocket and that's more players, faster updates, modules for everyone to enjoy.
  8. Don't know if it's true or not, but tbh ED saving the most popular aircrafts for itself only seems fair and logical.
  9. The frog is really lovely indeed, I hope in time it'll get upgraded to a hi def 6 dof cockpit like its regular Flaming Cliffs counterpart, no hurries though. The A-10C sure is better equipped to search & destroy, both are rly fun to use imo and the Su-25t make up for a great training CAS aircraft, if you succeed in it you'll most likely rock in the A-10. I know every friend who shows some interest in DCS I'd advise them to try the free Su-25t. (Although you gotta mind the SEAD missile's that tend to miss their target by a few meters currently)
  10. Spotting and identifying the enemy is half the job, the other half is assessing the tactical situation and use the right 'package' for the right threat at the right time while avoiding friendlies. Delivering the weapon although the fun part, is just a 'detail'. So yea spotting and target assessment can be quite tricky. I find that what helps me the most (when you don't have AI or buddies directing you) is to get to know the terrain, the rivers and the towns so you can use the briefing information effectively. Like IRL you then can use visual references to help you draw the briefing map in your head and know where you are, where you're going and the supposed location of your targets. Then it's just a matter you positioning yourself to scout and scan the area and I'm sure in no time you will find what you're looking for!
  11. Old thread but still relevant stuff considering how much demand there is for a wireless trackIR and how NaturalPoint fail to satisfy in that area, you'd think they'd be all over it by now.
  12. I would tick everything, but if I had to choose only one I'd choose EDGE, and I did.
  13. you know you're gonna need it. :D Can't wait to sit my digital arse on it, lovely models, nice fidelity, keep it coming.
  14. S3ntry, in all fairness, IRL tech gaps are also surprisingly huge. Not sure that's a relevant point but for example sometimes in active ops French Armée de Terre gladly enjoy a lot of the US's equipment because French sometimes just are too short on equipment that would be tedious acquiring when their US buddies have it by the hundreds and merely have got to ask to have it delivered. Another example, even though the Rafale is around, a big part of the Armée de l'Air still 'have to' exclusively use previous designs such as various Mirage variants. It takes decades and decades to develop something, bring it on the field and make it relevant. An F-18 going up against an F-4 for example doesn't sounds too out of place to me considering there's a difference IRL between what a country has best to offer and what it can afford to actually use despite what's it's going to be match up against. Taking the last module, the Huey as an example, just because it's not used within it's apogee environment doesn't make it any less relevant. That said, if you find such an argument isn't valid in this debate then I'll just say that in the end it all comes down to the server rules and the community to compartmentalize various modules in a believable manner. Like every mature and sandbox software it comes down to what's being done with it, ED and 3rd parties just selling us the tools. DCS Wolrd is a very recent change in the DCS universe and all that 3rd party thing is also just starting, give it a few years, I'm sure by then there will be plenty of modules the would make you feel today's huge gaps like ephemeral disparities.
  15. Personally I both agree and disagree with you s3ntry. On one hand it's disturbing to see all this 'variety' and anachronism on the other hand I kinda see ED's public as a steady line, all modules being dots scattered widely along the whole line, in time the huge gaps will probably be filled but until then it tries to evenly place dot so most people can get something to enjoy. Personally I buy all I can to support ED, but the A-10C is the sole module that keeps me around.
  16. At least it's nice to see that issue being identified and solutions exists until it gets fixed. Really frustrating to see these MPUs digging holes all around a radar. Thanks!
  17. Yup, it's usually added to the DB long before it's made available, also from my experience it's not always an insurance it will ever be available. Fingers crossed!
  18. I wouldn't be so inclined to call people ignorant. Even more so considering opinions and facts are apparently a source of amalgam to you. No offense. Anyways, about the KS, should it fail, nothing prevents KI to open their own funding system on their website, or start an indigogo campaign.
  19. I find people in this thread are understanding simple wordings in the weirdest ways! Or maybe it is I who just misunderstand. From what I gathered, their statement about funding the F-35 with their own money is NOT to inject it in the KS project. It is only a response to the growing concern that one can't possibly develop such an F-35 project with only $75K. Hence their clarification on saying that the $75K are ONLY to hire more coders/devs, finish the project quicker and work on the multiple variants right on, explaining that the base funding is already covered by his company. If the KS is unsuccessful they never said (afaik) they'd inject money to cheat KS, that'd be wrong in many ways. Should it fail, it'll still be done, only at a much slower pace. Now If it is I who misunderstood or missed official statement from KI stating they indeed would inject money to cheat Kickstarter, that would for sure earn my disrespect, to enunciate it in a polite manner.
  20. All that big coding intensive screen issue aside, maybe that huge touch screen (even compartmentalized) brings us one step closer to 3d dynamic interfaces everyone can see in sci-fi movies/games. Personally though, I'm not too fond of such an advanced fighter handled with an Iphone [harmless sarcasm]. I certainly dig the good old overwhelming switches and buttons everywhere whose functions are accessible at a 'finger's tip' rather than in MFD's sub-menus [Harmless skepticism]. Of course that's an uneducated opinion given how little I know about the actual in-flight handling of the F-35.
  21. So much is done in a week's work and yet so few. I like these weekly updates, no matter the redundancy of the obvious 'ongoing development' and 'WIP'. Though I'm mostly waiting for the new Graphic engine/IG news. I hope their Summer sale was a big success and the possible Steam support raising in the horizon helps in bringing solid and steady income to get all these projects moving that much faster.
  22. I'm quite new to FC3, started with the Su-27/33, but I'm having a hard time with the R-27R/ER that apparently tends to hug chaffs a bit too much so I switched to the F-15C and my hit ratio sky rocketed, only now half my landings results in the airframe below the ground and won't validate the missions (CTD on exit). Does everything really works fine when landing on a taxiway? Edit: well, nevermind, landed on Batsumi taxiway, same bug.
  23. Yea from my experience with Steam on a daily basis, they throw in updates quite fast. In terms on handling now I'm unsure. I know the A-10C and Ka bought on Steam can be used outside of Steam. I guess modules might be handled like any game's DLC, you install DCSW then install any module you bought and they're then active next time you launch DCSW.
  24. It'd be nice if DCSW would be added in the f2p section of steam and all modules added in Steam. It sure would bring a whole lot of new players and income. DCS could use some more spotlight, often I talk to ppl who are occasional simmers but barely, if ever, heard of it.
