Here's the official blurb on the system:- "Thales Optronic Systems, in Guyancourt, France, provide the HOT / Viviane day / night sight. The roof-mounted Viviane includes day sight, infrared camera, laser rangefinder and CCD localiser. The stabilised sight and the slaving of the missile launcher in elevation permit firing from hover or in translation at speeds up to 150km/h and evasive manoeuvres at rates up to 6° a second after missile launch. Range of the missile when helicopter-launched is 4,300m." I only have one human available (me), so am unable to reliably test. After reading a lot of the Gazelle forums, I get the feeling that not a lot of these things have been fixed in the last 3 years, so don't hold your breath.

Still broken for me on a 2560x1440 monitor in a multiscreen setup. Only the RH 3/4 of the screen is covered by the graphic - the lua doing this looks very convoluted compared to the harrier one. The Harrier works just fine.

Not in the Monitor config file! You need to edit the init.lua file Astazou has listed to add those 2 lines, which essentially export a name for the TV screen so you can use it in your monitor config file. Many modules can have various instruments exported in this way - it's a shame that there is no built in method to do so after so long. :/ Be aware that any update will overwrite this edit, so it is best to use a mod manager such as JsGme or OvGme. -
It didn't - these are partially assembled 109s hidden in the woods - either outside a factory, or a maintenance unit. You can see others without wings in the BG. The ground adjustable trim tabs are there to correct minor problems with trim - not to set up how a particuar pilot wants them on each flight - having worked on aircraft with such trim tabs, they only ever got adjusted if a pilot landed & complained of flutter or a tendency to roll etc. We have to assume that our simulation is of a nice new kite that does not have any warp in control surfaces, too loose, or over tight cable, or such.

Still, it would be nice if at least the pilot could be made to hold a position, or track while you fettle the weapons, rather than having to mess about with Auto-Hover every time.

Unfortunately, we have to go on something don't we? The manuals are of little help having no startup or any other procedures at all. Chapter 12, start-up procedure....... empty. Go watch a training mission. Ramsay: I'm fairly sure it should be left on, and have no doubt the devs have said the way it operates is correct - but the point is that the manual doesn't tell you, and the only other info is a tutorial mission that only covers the basics - although it doesn't tell you to turn it off - which is why I queried Chucks guide. Don't get me wrong - I use & value Chucks guides - but errors can creep in sometimes, and with no information in the actual manual it can be difficult to know.

Afterburner Cut and Engine Oil Cutoff: confusion?

I don't think the Engine Oil cutoff switches (Agree with OverStratos on what they are) are doing anything at the moment - I'm not sure the oil system is modelled beyond Engine RPM low = no oil pressure. I just flew for a few minutes with those switches ON & no warnings appeared, no overheating - no funny burning smell from the engine. I then flew inverted for well over 2 minutes with the switches ON, and again, nothing happened until both engines lost power, presumably flaming out due to fuel starvation. THEN I got oil warning, and Generator warning lights. I rolled upright, did a quick air start and all was well again. All warning lights went out & no fires or smoke. I'm fairly sure that flying inverted for that long should cause a problem with the oil system. I'm not too sure about the fuel system, but I did have drop-tanks, so gravity feed might have been in play - I know that jettisoning them cause a flameuout to happen a lot sooner. -
Yes, it does that unless the starter is engaged. Is Your Starter Switch On or Off? The manual tells you nothing of course, so like many others, I resorted to Chucks guide - but I think it has the wrong startup procedure. It tells you to turn off the Starter. when full RPM is reached. However. If you create a mission with a hot start/in flight, or use the Autostart routine, you will see that the Starter switch is left ON for flight. The AutoStop sequence closes the Fuel Flow Lever, then applies Rotor brake once RPM has dropped, followed by the Starter Switch & Fuel Pump Switch. Same goes for the sequence when you run the Cold Start tutorial.

I am also having the same problem with the Rockeye. in the current beta. As the bomb is dispensing it's bomblets, the game and windows locks up - although the sound carries on playing. This forces a hard reset. No crash report.

Edit MODS\new_Kneeboard\Scripts\Aircrafts\_Common\Cockpit\ViewportHandling.lua Look around about line 32 and edit this:- dedicated_viewport = {default_x,default_y,default_width,default_height} to read this:- dedicated_viewport = {0,0,550,800} This will make the Kneeboard appear on the top left corner of whatever viewport or multi monitor setup you have. Alter your X,Y position accordingly if you want it elsewhere. Increase the second number to be greater than the width of your main monitor. Try to keep the Aspect ratio of the size similar to this, or use the default_width & default_height variables. Obviously, the actual position depends on how your monitors are setup in Windows & your monitor.lua settings. I use up to 4 monitors arranged horizontally, with either 1,2,3 as 3d screens, with 2 as GUI, and 4 as an MFD export, or 1 as space for kneepad & Control Indicator, 2 as 3D screen/GUI, 4 as blank (possibly a web page or PDF guide here), and 4 as before - with MFDs and instrument exports. -

I assumed it was the (seemingly non functional in DCS) light/Pin visible to the left of the Rudder trim switch (SIDTRIM). If you don't have headtracking, this will be difficult to see, since it is almost at the sidewall of the cockpit, underneath the large Temperature control box. I'm not sure if it is meant to be a light, or a pin that pops up, but it does nothing right now. I just centre the ball on the HSE turn & slip indicator to centre it, although it might be best to centre roll trim first with the O key (the "Roll Centr" button doesn't seem to work either).

I can only reiterate that my above post works just fine with the latest build - it never stopped working, and I am using it right now. (OB 2.5.4.29585) Note in the example I give - you don't need to use variables, and can type in the numbers directly - I just use them to make it easier to find where the numbers are edited.

I'm still having exactly this problem in Beta 254.29585 on a multi monitor setup (overall size 7690x1440 - using just centre 2560x1440 as 3d view). Training Mission for F14 A/A guns is a good example. The initial setup is withan IL76(?) directly in front of you at short range - even with full zoom this is almost impossible to see in this mission.

:smartass:Oh boy is this thread going in circles. Have you read any of the previous comments? Not everyone wants to just play SP, and they currently can't refuel for various reasons, so want some AI help. Even in SP, a mission might require A-A refuelling, and AFAIK, Infinite fuel is not an option on MP. Anyone who thinks options are a bad thing to ask for is missing something imo. Maybe it's the altitude sickness brought on by sitting on that high horse? It's almost as if some people have the need to feel superior to new users. Have they not noticed that this sim has got a lot bigger since the great unwashed masses were drawn to it via Steam etc? Those people will eventually buy modules, supporting development and take time to learn the complicated stuff, but why make it impossible from the get-go? I say include as many options such as rudder assist, and easy refuelling as possible. I don't use them as a rule - but sometimes I might want to - unlimited weapons for example, when trying out new settings. All the crying about "It ain't real tho", have clearly never worked on the real thing. You really want to spend 2 hours waiting for the weather to clear, only to be canned just after you spent 20 minutes on a startup? Do you turn on all faults - and abort if there is low pressure in HYD 2?, or spend 3 hours waiting for a blown tyre to be changed? Do you wait in a holding pattern.. Oh wait - we don't have a realistic ATC. Lots of things are far from realistic - because get this... It's a game. Shocking I know - but some people just want to have fun. :doh:

HU5 the commando? That's the last Wessex type I ever got to handle - it was pristine compared to how I remember our RAF kites... I suppose that probably would fit the DCS Ethos, along with the HCMk2 better than a sub hunter ;) I only recently - with purchase of the Carrier a/c became aware that the sea was only a couple of metres deep overall. I became very well aquainted with the sea-floor trying to land on or avoid hitting the carrier. ;)

Really? an aircraft with (for example) 2x1107hp RR Gnome turboshafts is the same as 1x1500hp Wright Cyclone engine? Lunatic: I'm not familiar with the Navy kites - only have experience of the RAF HCMk2 ones, - but all that ASW kit might be interesting - if we get submarines to play with. Did the HA3 have the nuclear depth-charge? ;)

I thought the list based on distance is for "Easy comms", but if you weren't using it & tuned in to a specific frequency - you were talking to that frequency directly, therefore there should be some response. I tend to keep it on easy comms because reasons. In (the f-16 sim/mod that should not be mentioned), I like the way that the ATC responds to you if you are too far out - assuming you are in range in the first place. They just tell you that you are outside their airspace, and to contact them when within 20 or 30 miles (I forget).

A way to back up on the carrier/know when to stop.

Something as simple as a Label indicating the shuttle, which would be visible through the floor would be enough. Hooking up already moves you back and lines you up - sometimes comically, as long as you are within a couple of feet of where you need to be. I wouldn't expect a marshaller or tug anytime soon though. -
From reading those notes, I'm getting the impression that it is implying that it is better to let her ride on 2 wheels - rather than risk pulling back on the yoke before the mains were actually on the ground. I don't actually recall seeing any contemporary RAF footage or photos showing a Spit landing on anything other than the mains. Just anecdotal of course. I'm not a pilot. I do suspect that any modern Spits moight be handled somewhat differently than back in the day. I was based a Coningsby just before I left the RAF - saw plenty of the BBMF kites, but never took a lot of notice of technique. Also worked on Chipmunks - different beasts, but still a taildragger, and they were perfectly happy rolling on mains for quite a while before settling.
