I do have an facebook account but never uses it. Read that some users had their account closed and could not use their Quest anymore. That of course is a NO-GO. But just having an account should not be a problem.

What is ASW ?

I am considering getting into VR mainly for flight simming not only DCS and preferable also other games. Otherwise it is not worth the cost. But first I need to take some things into consideration. Can my computer handle it ? My system is CPU Haswell 4770K @4.5 GHz RAM 16 Gb 2200 MHz Videocard NVIDIA 2070 Super SSD drives and a 27" 2560*1440 screen also 5 Ghz router and 75-150 GBps download What are the disadvantages compared to 2D screen ? The advantage of realism throught the 3D display must outweight the disadvantages. And considering the high cost no significant or glaring disadvantages can be accepted. If I would get one I have came to two main alternatives. 1) Occulus Quest II with a wireless setup (My video card does not have a USB C port). Has anyone tried this ? Does it work well ? The advantage I see here that I would have both stand alone and no cable thus more flexible. Also less expensive. 2) HP Reverb G2 VR Headset. Better resolution and designed for PC connection which might make it work better Regarding the question IF to buy an alternative would be to wait for something better. But my concern here is the future headset propably is going to have higher resolution and thus higher system requirements which might be an issue

Yes the light from 10 billion ly away is 10 billion years old i.e older than earth no problem there. If the universe were only 6300 years old the light from 13 000 light year distant object would have reached us yet and thus we woud not see it. Here is a problem.

How much improvement to expect for graphics card upgrade
jfri replied to jfri's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I didn't know that DCS don't use multiple cores. 1070(Ti) is not sold where I live and I feel uncomfortable about buying such an expensive component as used. My memory tells me that a new series video card means that the old ones are quickly removed from the stores. But I am not certain. A 3000 card would mean four generations later than my haswell system. Could that be a problem ? -

Again what do you mean ? Of course I can and do have SSD in my system. I recently upgraded my system with a 1 Tb SSD. -

Yes I still get by with it. I have fairly high setting and usually no stutters or low fps (apply to DCS P3D 2.5 Xplane 11 FSX SE). I have not yet but has been thinking about VR. Problem with upgrading individual components are that you rarely can do it you often need to replace more components. For example newer CPU than haswell require new mobo. But I do have recently upgraded 8 Gb RAM to 16 Gb. -
In dogfights usually at max power

What do you mean I boot my system from SSD drive. I use 1440p. Getting a whole new system would mean a very expensive upgradew. And I spent a lot money on expensive components seven years ago when I built that system -
I have TrackIR

Did you mean that you first had a RX580 and then upgraded it to a 1070 and was it the 1070 that was the sidegrade ? -

I also find the cost for the 2060 Super a high investment. I found RX590 being sold here. It seem almost to good to be true. I have had the impression that for flightsims (I use DCS XPlane 11 FSX SE P3D 2.5 consider getting P3D 5) Nvidia is the way to go -

With RTX stuff do you mean hardware ray tracing ? It is not a problem that it exists and can come to use in other cases. Having at least 8 Gb is very important from what I understand so I see no better option than a RTX 2060. I don't like the idea to buy an expensive component like a video card as used. -
In that video he did place the center dot on the target. If I do that I miss at least with the P51. Also I think he got dangerously close to the ground

How should I do to hit something. More specific how should I aim ? In AA combat I know I place the centre dot on the plane. In AG this wont work. How do I know where to place the cross i.e to aim ?

This was the only thing new to me. So first full throttle then E and then ? How to reset throttle to full when it is already there ?

Yes I have a Z87 mobo. Why should lowering the CPU freq improve things ? How does VR at low med look like compared to monitor ? -

Upgrading my RAM further is not an option. I recently upgraded from 8 Gb to 16 Gb. 32 Gb memory for my system is extremely expensive if it is sold at all. -
I find dog fighting very difficult in WW2 planes like for example the P51. In the last mission in the Blue Nose campaign I should scramble to meet fighters over the airport. I always end up being shoot down and are unable to hit something. Either I see planes coming directly towards me or can't catch up on them. When turning around to evade attacks from behind or trying get behind a plane I fail. Can't turn fast enough and easy lose control of plane. Flying this plane correctly in AA combat is a thing I don't have a clue about.
-
And I would expect the plane to crash after having a great number of accumulated damage events
-
I have noticed during dogfights that when I hit a plane and it is displayed in yellow to have been damaged I see this happening. No matter how many times I inflict such damage the plane still don't go down. It seem like in order to shoot down a plane you need to destroy it at one occassion. Is this how it works ? Btw this question also apply to other planes.

During my last two flights it did not happen. But I remember one thing. When it happened the fuelpressure dial (I think three needles in one gauge to the lower right on the front panel) displayed zero when it happened.
-
I have encountered a problem repeated times during different circumstances. When flying the plane loses power and I see MP and RPM drop but the propeller keeps spinning. I see no obvious error in cockpit fuel is on mixture at run fuel booster on. For example during the payware P51 campaign it happened. And then in the end briefing there were a lot of failures listed as occurring when I was just flying the plane. After that I tried the ground attack interactive tutorial and the same thing happened. Also no gun reticle visible and no bombs were released when pressing weapon release button. Have not had these problems before.

I would say the roll is terrible slow compared to even the other Migs. And the Mig is fighter right ? Then how can it survive in dogfight when turning is so slow ? Regarding the F86 Sabre feeling difficult. Made that judgement only after trying the navigation session a couple of times and found keeping the altitude difficult. Maybe with a bit of more exercise and patient I might change my mind about it.
