  1. It will be close to release when it is up for preorder. After that it's typically a 2+ month wait, right?
  2. I love the Mig-21, but I skipped the F-5E because of the decision to model a variant with only 2 sidewinders. With a 4 sidewinder loadout a mission designer could restrict the loadout to 2 sidewinders as desired, but going in the other direction means a mod and breaking integrity checks. A little more flexibility seems like a good idea to me when we have so few DCS-level fighter jets. Weren't there discussions about it before the alpha release?:)
  3. You're saying I called the Mig21 modern and I think it's controls are like an F16's? You are a comedian. No, I was only responding to the remark about what contemporary military pilots describe, and that Rodd's report was the same as what I've heard from military pilots. You can also look in this same thread and see that I said the Mig21 required rudder for coordinated turns. Am I contradicting myself or did I not say what you think I said?;) Errr, I shouldn't fall into the game of trying to score rhetorical points, because that is what makes these threads such a bore. I'll wait to see what Leatherneck's mig21 pilot says about the new roll behavior.
  4. You'd want the two seat version of the F-16?
  5. So many comments about why it can't or shouldn't be done. It's a good thing the rest of you know so much about the development process and can fill me in. ;) My wish is that if we ever see a DCS F-16C, it shouldn't have that ugly block 40 HUD.
  6. I'd like to add that at least half the scrutiny should be on the roll inertia, not just the maximum roll rate. Indeed, the aileron roll is one of the most difficult maneuvers in the Mig-21bis. We'll have to post a good track or video on the proper technique.
  7. Rodd is correct. You don't use the rudder for BFM in a modern fighter. http://www.f-16.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2119 Even for crosswind landings you don't touch the pedals in an F-16.
  8. I've watched a real Viper pilot fly the simulation of the F-16C. His eyes were on 3 places 90% of the time: the HUD, FCR, and RWR. You can see the HUD, FCR, RWR and the sky at the same time in the real cockpit with your head level. With the limited FOV of a computer display you have to compromise. If you set your view so that your natural resting place for your head doesn't show the most vital information you are sacrificing SA. You get a nice view of the sky and clouds, but your reaction time will be delayed, or worse, you could miss something vitally important.
  9. You need a little bit of rudder when you turn the Mig-21 for the simple reason that the outside wing has a little more drag than the inside wing (same as every aircraft), and the old jet doesn't take care of that for you the way newer fighters do. But for simply rolling the Mig-21 rudder is silly. It's not a WW1 scout. It's a delta-wing interceptor.
  10. What gets me is that the most capable fighters that get to fly in DCSW are LOMAC imports. Everytime a Su-27 or F-15 locks me up while I'm on the taxiway I'm like . Once the 2000C RWR is capable of showing an inbound Fox-1 things will improve. For now, the only indication of an inbound R-27R/ER is that the circle disappears around the threat on the RWR while the buzzer continues to sound. If there are multiple threats on the RWR is is almost impossible to tell whether or not it is only a lock or an inbound Fox-1.
  11. Autopilot is on, but the trim just tries to roll the aircraft. Anything else I could be missing?
  12. Mig-21 rolls like a fat cow in 1.5.4. The roll rate in 1.5.3 was comparable to the videos. Just to be sure I played with the aileron boost switch to make sure it's working. The switch works, so the terrible roll is intended.:disgust: I really hope something can be done to bring the old roll rate back. Pretty please?:sad_2:
  13. Help with the Mig-21 knee map? This is what it looks like on Open Conflict:
  14. Nah, I missed the AI Tu-22 on Open Conflict with 2 Magics. The bomber was flying straight and level and the Magics were at least 500 meters off the mark! 3R3 and R60M couldn't hit the Tu-22 either. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=170090 So far no trouble with human targets, but tomorrow I'll probably be cursed, too.
  15. There are several discussions about missiles effectiveness in 1.5.4, mostly about human vs. human play. So far I haven't experienced anything strange or different when shooting down human opponents. However, in this track from Open Conflict I was unable to hit the AI Tu-22s that fly around the map. In the first sortie I launch two Magics at a Tu-22 flying straight and level. Both explode at least 500m in the wrong direction from the Tu-22. In the third sortie I launch two R3R missiles at another Tu-22. Both miss. Then I close to firing range for the R-60M, and it misses too. Here is a link to the track I uploaded: http://www.mediafire.com/download/vu7ay0rzbgbjxk8/OpenConflict_Khashuri_-_v6.1.5_RELEASE-20160710-234826.zip
  16. The original 109K-4 had so much gun smoke you couldn't see the target after tapping the trigger.
  17. which ones? rudder trim?
  18. I think so, or just use this one: default.lua
  19. /DCS WORLD/CONFIG/INPUT/AIRCRAFTS/DEFAULT/trackir/default.lua
  20. Can you imagine Las Vegas on the Caucasus map? I think it would drop to 10fps.
  21. We can test with 2.0, but have to make sure it's the same altitude. ------------ Tested at 500m with 100% fuel. I got about 0.5 seconds difference for a sustained turn (average over many circles). With 1.5.4 it's very tricky to maintain a sustained turn to the left, so my tests were to the right. 2.0 = 19.0s 1.5.4 = 18.5s
  22. This was the first thing I checked in the new 109.:joystick: The sustained turn at 300km/h is impressive, though. After flying it more I think it shaved at least 1.0 seconds from its time to complete a 360 degree sustained turn. If you get below 300km/h IAS the engine is too much for the little airframe, but I might change my opinion if they get ffb working again in the 109.
  23. It must also be incorrect that I can see my knees while I type this.:music_whistling:
  24. Not a valid link. I want to go back to the 1.5.3 trackir settings. I guess I'll dive through the thread now [holds breath]... ----------------- ------------ So I copy and paste this to /DCS WORLD/CONFIG/INPUT/AIRCRAFTS/DEFAULT/trackir/default.lua to fix it?
  25. The second video is great. I don't fly a lot of CAS but you make me feel like attempting it now.
