Warthog extension needed, which one ?
Chief1942 replied to BitMaster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Bought one of wasyl00's 100mm extensions, and made a receiver for the base of the WH stick so that it slides into the front of my chair on the underside of the seat. The 100 mm is just the right height so that my arm rests on the arm rest of the chair and my hand grips the stick in a comfortable position. With the extension you can rotate the stick into a direction that make button and switch access even easier. Might look a little weird not facing directly away from the pilot, but it is way more comfortable. The accuracy of the stick is much improved with the extension and now requires very little extreme range efforts on the stick. I'm sold and the product I got from wasyl00 is top of the drawer. -
I LIKE IT! Ricardo's A-10C pit is one of the best mods out there in my opinion:thumbup:
-
Yes I think most can sympathize with that issue.:)

View this thread and it might shed some insight. ED Forums » English » Digital Combat Simulator » DCS: A-10C Warthog » Bugs and Problems » Sound » Audio sliders do nothing...

It is a ZIP file. If you downloaded that file from the Mods section of the forum, it is in .zip format. If you have JAN 25 14 A_10C_C_EDM_TEX file and you check it's "properties" you will note that. As Milli indicated, once you place that file in the appropriate place then you need to change it to the same name as the original. Always back up the orig.

I'm running GTX-780's in SLI and get about 30% increase(60+FPS) versus single card(40-45 FPS). You might try experimenting with the settings in NVIDIA Inspector. It's a trial and error process. As has been noted, DCSW does not utilize SLI very well currently. Hopefully with 2.0 EDGE that will change.

 Been at this for many a year and without something like you propose, I don't see any developer releasing ANY of their work until such time as they feel the negative feedback could be minimized. One only need read the forums to see that many "simmers" do not know a "Beta" from a final release. :music_whistling: Even a "final release" is subject to "bugs" due to the reality that there are just such a broad range of PC systems out there along with ever changing gear and technology. Time will tell whether ED takes an approach such as you put forth.
-
Do it when you feel it's time. Computer upgrades cease for no program!:music_whistling: As we have seen in DCSW alone, if one waits to take advantage of new tech only when an all applications can make use of it, we would all still be stuck with Atari's.:D Seriously, if you think your current system is overdue for an upgrade and you have the funds, just go for it. ED is working to give us a gem, and no one outside the "loop" have much of a clue what the system demands will really be.:dunno: My guess is that after they do release 2.0, we will be reading a lot of threads regarding optimizing systems for it. If one has more money than patience, then it is ALWAYS beneficial to have the latest and greatest.8)

I sensed that was what you were inferring, but as you said. I wasn't clear on the specifics. It's all good!

Still the question No revolving movement what so ever?
-
Are you implying that the tail wheel was fixed so that it did not have the slightest side to side directional movement or that it was disconnected so it would not retract and permanently remain extended? Personally I can envision a multitude of issues with a tail wheel fixed permanently aligned along the long axis of the aircraft. The P-51 and most tail draggers are difficult enough as it is to taxi (steer), can't imagine NOT having a movable rear tail wheel. What advantage do you see in such a configuration?

Didn't like the message so you attack the messenger? Sweet! I think BIGNEWY is doing an adequate job of answering the OP's concerns.

Hang in there! I currently have the same impression of the FW-190. I land it by simply going ahead an flying right into the ground and save me the anxiety and frustration of trying to get that baby on the ground and keeping it straight thereafter.:joystick: But Like the Mig-21, it is simply a matter of practice, practice, practice. I picked up on the idiosyncrasies of the Mig-21 much quicker than the FW, but I attribute that to the 190 being a tail dragger. And I am so thankful the Mig-21 has that drag chute. Without that I would probably be mowing the lawn with it more often than not.:music_whistling:
-
Not a physics person, but I usually think of air/wind forces being somewhat akin to water. In that comparison, a drag chute in a relatively strong wind (cross or otherwise) would have a similar effect as a sea anchor on a boat in the water. I would anticipate it would turn the craft into the direction the wind(current) is coming from, providing considerable drag in the process. I will leave it to the more scientifically astute to be more precise, but that analogy helps me prepare for and adjust to the effects of the winds.
-
Ah Ha! I thought it was something I was doing differently.:joystick: I don't fly the Mig as often as other aircraft, but I did notice that the last time in a landing that the plane did seem to "float" and I was using the same procedures as I had used before with great success. I thought perhaps the last update may have introduced a stronger ground effects aspect to the plane, but I think more than that is at play here. But like most realistic FM's, we need to always be ready to adjust to changes in the environment and adjust the "book" procedures accordingly to compensate for those changes.:smartass: It's that ever changing environment that I really enjoy with DCS and other "study" sims. It prevents me from becoming too proud of myself and thinking it have it wired.:music_whistling: When I do that, I often end up a burning pile of rubble.

Likewise, I don't know how I will map it until I've had the opportunity to test it all out. I currently have the TM Warthog stick and throttle plus use many sim inputs through my keyboard as well. It is replacing much of the keyboard use that makes the button box attractive to me. Plus I can transfer some of the buttons and switches in use for various functions on the warthog to the button box and free up those switches/buttons for other purposes that will further assist the HOTAS experience. I also think it will lessen some of the mouse pointer work in the cockpit, which always gives me fits as I have trouble moving that pointer around accurately to hardly visible buttons and switches while simultaneously flying and fighting the aircraft. Simple real life button/switchology will enhance my sim pleasure I'm certain. Really looking forward to putting the FLT-1 into service. -

Derek, Been waiting for this. Order placed. Thanks for thinking of us "fly boys".:joystick: -
Charly_Owl, You da man!!

Land the Dora? Heck yes! :pilotfly:I just point it at the ground, auger in and get it over with. Less frustration that way.;)

It has been my experience with the Mustang and almost all the other aircraft that constant attention to trim is necessary. Since we appreciate that these are in fact "study sims" and that the flight models reflect the real a/c as close as it can be accomplished on a PC, then I doubt that one can expect to trim any of DCSW planes to hands off flying for any length of time. Simply too many changing variables such as wind, wind direction, temperature, air density at different altitudes, etc. and of course the fact that one is constantly burning fuel which changes the weight and center of gravity of the airframe. Like you, I've tried but also like you I find myself continually adjusting trim or slight movements of the stick.:joystick: I think it comes with "flying":pilotfly:

When will we finally see old 'bugs' quashed?
Chief1942 replied to Filament's topic in General Questions
ad infinitum Like many here, I go back to Flanker days. One thing I picked up on early in my addiction to flight sims (especially "study sims") is that the amount of expertise and effort required to do it right the first time, is nigh on impossible. Much of what we have comes from "best guess" as some of the info trying to be replicated was still classified data. Even with what has been released in the way of operational detail, ED is still having to take real world information and adapt it to a computer simulation in a manner that replicates the "real deal" as close as they can. I have come to accept that such an undertaking is practically impossible. When was the last time you actually felt the effects of those 6 G's you pull with impunity? I've had the opportunity to have had some stick time in real world military flight simulators:pilotfly: and believe me, they too are "buggy". I think like Filament, many of us get frustrated with our particular "bug" in our favorite module, and after many hours it does seem to compound ( the frustration that is) to the point where venting seems to be the only way to relieve that ever building sense that things could/should be better. Like has already been stated by others, EDGE may in fact squash many of the existing bugs, but simply due to the nature of our favorite pastime, I suspect there will simply be others. I think it comes with the challenge of creating "study sims" and perhaps as technology improves, we will see less and less of these problems. But I doubt they will ALL ever go away. Happy New Year to all, especially those hard at work at Eagle Dynamics. -

As others have indicated, even with the limitations of flight simulations such as DCS, hop into your trusty Mustang, without someone trying to shoot you down, and attempt the maneuver shown in that clip. Practice, practice, practice as you will, you will simply NOT be able to duplicate what was shown. Physics are what they are.
