  1. Can also email brackets to 311gryphon at gmail dot com. Just realized people may not want their brackets visible. I'll also spell out the rules of the bracket a little more clearly here. In each round/match the following applies 1. Aircraft are AI controlled with skill set to "good" 2. Each aircraft gets its best applicable mixture of air to air weapons, whatever that may be 3. No external fuel tanks are applied 4. Aircraft at placed, facing north, 40 miles apart on an east/west line (so aircraft A is 40 miles west of aircraft B, aircraft B is 40 miles east of aircraft A) 5. Aircraft are co-altitude (right now 15,000 feet ASL, might play with that later) 6. Aircraft are set to travel 400 knots (if they can't get that fast they'll go whatever speed they can get to) 7. Each aircraft gets a waypoint set at exactly the midpoint of the east/west line - the waypoint for each aircraft is in the same spot as the waypoint of the other aircraft 8. The winner is the plane left flying at the end of whatever happens 9. In the event that both aircraft are destroyed, the one that crashes into the ground/water/or other object first loses. If I am unable to tell, then I'll try to tell which one got damaged first. If I can't tell, we'll redo the round. 10. Tournament is double elimination
  2. I don't normally post my own videos unless someone specifically asks for them. However, I'm doing something stupid that people might find fun, or maybe not. I don't know. This is a goofy double elimination tournament I'm having fun putting together of AI aircraft going head to head in mostly unfair contests of air supremacy. I'll probably do a guns only tournament later, and maybe similar capability brackets. But for now, in tribute to the NCAA basketball tournament coming up, I submit to the DCS community the March Madness of DCS Fixed Wing Aircraft (or most of them). I've attached a .zip with an excel spreadsheet in it of the bracket if anyone wants to fill it out. Forgive me for not using Google docs or something like that but I'm old. I'd love to have a contest but for now I'm not going to do any real prizes. If enough people care to enter I'll entertain the idea but I really don't know how to go about giving modules away any more. I know ED made some changes to how that works. But, no matter how many people fill out a bracket I'll at least give shout outs to the top three placings. I'll keep an eye on this thread and any brackets that get attached (if you don't want to pop a spreadsheet in as an attachment I can take screenshots as long as I can read them). Cheers and I hope everyone has fun with this. DCSMarchMadnessBracket.zip
  3. Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll have to check on the skin, I had a custom one that I made for the Huey that I'll make sure isn't there. As for corrupt files and whatnot, I can't say it isn't something like that; however, this has been going on for nearly 4 years which means it's been at least 3 installs of DCS for me, the latest on a fresh machine. So if it does happen to be something like that then there's some kind of problem with how DCS is installing things. I finally found my old post on the same subject and if I remember right it was from July 2015. I haven't been able to fly the Huey since before that time, which......sucks. Clearly it hasn't bothered me too much or I would have tried some things between now and then. But, I bought my new machine last summer and I remember the Huey didn't work out of the gates on the new install, and I got pretty frustrated and didn't bother with it till this week. Anyway, that's all sort of beside the point at the moment till I can nail down what the issue is. I'll try skins first as that's the easiest.
  4. I've had this problem for something like 2 years and have just been ignoring it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Huey several times over the past 12 months and this problem never goes away. If I try to place the UH-1H in the mission editor, any map, it won't really place it. No icon pops up on the map and I can't choose "player" from the skill list. Also, the liveries list is empty. If I place a DIFFERENT helicopter they work like normal, then I can change the helicopter over to a UH-1H but the liveries list goes away, the icon on the map will not change (remains as whatever chopper I placed), and if I try to save the mission I get something like "invalid frequency" message. Any ideas?
  5. Followup question...and I know we have two different conversations going on here so I apologize, but do you have to get rid of AAA and SAMs? Even SAMs that are quite a ways off or just SAMs nearby? I chanced the SAMs at the airfield to AAA and tried it and it didn't work (haven't loaded your latest mission up yet), but I noticed the AWACS is behaving exactly the same way in the radio menu so I feel like it is something common to those two channels. I'll give your latest mission a try and see if I can tell what's different.
  6. So the SAMs were the issue? Ugg. Hopefully they fix that. It's kind of nice to force the player to stand off or give them something to worry about. Unless there is some real reason why the SAM would interfere with comms. I'll give that a try. Thanks.
  7. Still no dice. I saw the JTAC was set to 127.5 AM, I dialed that in and it is still grayed out on my radio list and they won't respond. I went back and watched Wags do it in the video and I'm dialing in the frequency exactly as he is. I even went back and set up my maverick exactly like he did before trying to raise JTAC and they still aren't reachable. One thing that seems odd, do you have to set AM/FM and if so, how? The AM is sometimes on the UFC and sometimes not. It doesn't seem to operate like other items on the UFC. So Channel 1 never has the AM up on it so I've also been trying to dial it in on Manual because it does (till I hit ENTER at which point it disappears, just like in Wags' video).
  8. Here's the one I've been working on. I may be doing something wrong in the cockpit but if you see something wrong in the settings I have here let me know. Thanks. MultiplayerHornet.miz
  9. It shows up in the menu but is grayed out and won't communicate. I've set both to 133 AM as well in my own mission and tried someone else's where they were set to 138. The way it behaves is like I used to see in the A-10 if I wasn't dialed to the right frequency but in this case dialing to the correct frequency doesn't fix anything. Or so it seems.
  10. I'm not even close to expert on this subject but first I know you're going to get a lot of responses saying it is still in development/beta. I don't know exactly what they categorize it as but it isn't finished so we don't even have all the weapons and modes yet. For instance, unless I'm mistaken we don't even have TWS mode with the RADAR yet. So I would say it's safe to bet that the AIM-9 modes aren't complete yet either. I don't know what modes the real Hornet has or is limited to either so I can't really guess on what's to come. In the current build of the module, if I recall correctly there are some other modes like VSCAN. I don't remember seeing a boresight scan mode but I may have just never bumped into it. There isn't any auto-uncage yet that I'm aware of. I have had the seeker follow the target but I don't know exactly how that works. Sorry for my limited knowledge on the subject. I tend to jump in and fly around and when things work or don't I'm not necessarily the guy to ask how they work or why. But I wanted to give you what I know so far until smarter people can chime in.
  11. I'm going to have to download one of these missions I guess. I've checked my frequencies countless times and no matter what I've tried the JTAC is always grayed out in the comms menu and won't respond. Tried different units (shouldn't matter as far as I can tell). I now have 2 different units that should be capable of JTAC on specific freqs and the freqs programmed into the F-18 and whether I use pre-programmed or manual it doesn't work. Back to the drawing board I guess. Downloaded a mission from earlier in the thread, checked the frequency of the JTAC in it, launched it, set COMM1 to manual and punched in 138000 enter. The frequency looked good on the radio and it had the colon next to AM. JTAC is grayed out and won't respond. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what it is. Will play with it some more tomorrow night.
  12. Maybe a necro but I'm struggling with contacting JTAC in the F-18 and this is the closest thing I've found after a couple hours searching that may lead me to my destination. I set up a JTAC unit on 133 MHz AM in the MI. I set the channel 1 of my F18 to that frequency in MI as well (though you can't set it for AM/FM). I load the mission and while on channel 1 for both radios, I can hit either Comm 1 or Comm 2 and JTAC is grayed out. I also switched Comm 1 to M and manually input 133, verified it was set to AM and that it stayed as the channel (the first time it snapped back to the default), no change in behavior. The grayed out line for my JTAC in the comms menu verifies the frequency so I don't think that's incorrect. As a side note, did the AM/FM bit on the UFC change? I've seen loads of videos where you can select AM or FM by pressing the appropriate button to put the ":" in front of the right modulation but that doesn't look the same in my Hornet. Maybe an update made it more realistic? Now it appears I can only set that on "M"??? And then it just shows an "AM" and I can either have it active or not???? Anyway, thanks in advance.
  13. So I was freaking out last night trying to figure this out and couldn't think of anything that changed between last weekend and this one. Today on my way home from work I realized I had been testing a skin I made for someone and had put it in the users.....saved games folder structure. Then I copied it back into Core Mods but didn't delete it out of the saved games. So yeah, you were right on MadDog. I deleted the one in the saved game structure and it works fine. Kids, don't put the same livery in two places or DCS naturally won't know what to do. A wise man once told me that computers are really obedient and try to do exactly what we tell them to do.
  14. Not sure what changed...I used F-18 last Saturday and it worked fine. Fired it up tonight and skipped the updater, went into the mission editor, and the F-18 acted all kinds of wonky. All on the Open Beta. EPISODE 1 1. Loaded existing mission I played last week with 3 Hornets on a carrier. I tried to change the livery in one and no liveries would load at all in the list (none were listed). Mission is in Caucuses. 2. I deleted 2 of the 3 but it would not allow me to select the 3rd one and would only allow me to select the Stennis. 3. I tried to exit the mission editor, dialog box asking me if I want to exit without saving pops up, say no, DCS won't exit the editor. Task manager out of it. EPISODE 2 1. Since I skipped the updater I go into the folder and run the updater. It ran the check for updates but didn't actually update, it just launched DCS (I may not have done that right). 2. Went into DCS and tried the mission editor again but in Persian Gulf. If I select F-18 as the plane BEFORE placing it I can't place it. If I select any other plane I can place it and change it to any other plane except the F-18. Or, I should say, the type of plane will change to F-18 but not the satellite image. 3. If I DO change it there are no liveries and ME won't exit. 4. Task manager out again. EPISODE 3 1. Load a quick mission with F-18 and it loads and I can fly. 2. Go back to mission editor and load Nevada. 3. Exact same behavior. 4. Task manager out. EPISODE 4 1. Load DCS and uninstall (maybe?) F-18 in the module manager (turned it off) 2. Restart DCS 3. Turn it back on 4. Restart DCS 5. Load mission editor (Caucuses) 6. Same behavior - task manager out I'm betting I'm going to have to reinstall DCS completely again, but I'm hoping someone has a better answer or something to try. System specs should be in my sig.
  15. Ha! I just used my own tutorial to figure out how to load the livery! I also edited the post to account for a few things I learned about the F/A-18C Lot 20 model and liveries.
  16. Okay, so the repair does work. The activation window popped up on top of the load screen. It is still annoying that the key is ALREADY IN DCS WORLD but that it STILL MADE ME ACTIVATE IT AGAIN. I'm not as mad as what all caps alludes to but it is frustrating. Anyway, if anyone stumbles into this problem, I'll confirm that running the repair allows the window to pop up so you can enter the activation. Thanks.
  17. Restarted and tried it again. The key is in the module manager so DCS World has the information it needs. It's still popping the window up. I'm attempting the repair now. Will post results later.
  18. Similar issue on a clean install of DCS 2.5 Open Beta. Go to load mission editor, it wants my activation key, but the key window is stuck behind the load screen for the mission editor. In fact, everything is stuck behind it and I can't close it. Can't task manager it. Lovely. When I installed DCS it asked me proper for some activation keys and I popped those in. Awesome. Off to the races. Why didn't it ask for the Nevada key then? That's mostly rhetorical, I'm just a bit miffed that all my available options have been taken away from me thanks to this window not popping properly. Consequently, the company I work for had a similar issue a month ago with our software. We had a work around that beat restarting the PC though so that's a moral victory I suppose. Anyway, I hope that gets fixed soon. I'll restart and try to activate Nevada in the module manager and try again.
  19. Sigh. Guess I'll go back to one screen for now. I get a bit weary of constantly editing .lua files.
  20. MDIs on but not visible I searched the forums thinking someone else had surely had this issue but can't find anything. When I start a mission where the F-18 is already started (take off from runway or already flying) my MDIs are both turned on but won't show anything. I've tried turning them off and back on again and I've tried adjusting brightness and contrast. The AMPCD and the HUD are both on and showing what one would expect but nothing on the MDIs at all. I'm going to try a cold start this morning to see if I can get them to turn on.
  21. Someone else may have mentioned it but apparently the Hornet makes noises when supersonic due to the air in the inlets I think. I don't remember at the moment what they called them. Having said that, mine sounds more "reasonable" while in your video it does sound odd to me...although I've never heard it in real life so can't comment on how real it is.
  22. In case other people are looking for it and can't find it.... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=209508
  23. Maybe found them after 40 minutes of looking.... DCS World Two Five > CoreMods > aircraft > FA-18C > Liveries > FA-18C_hornet
  24. So I'm being dumb I know...but where is the .edm and the texture files for this? I can find the original F/A-18C but not the Lot 20. Can't check my textures. Thanks.
  25. Did I get some of them wrong? I kept getting confused as I went around them and they may be technically labelled different than in the A-10. I made some assumptions so I may have gotten them wrong or confused.
