As I recall, the clear version of the video was confiscated. I believe this was a "copy of a copy of a copy" I recall in the video that the pilots all saw the much clearer versions of the FLIR video. But it was all confiscated. But the pilots all claimed that the video is what they saw and what the ships Aegis radars recorded.
  2. Damn. I didn't even know MS was rebooting the franchise. I hope it's optimized for VR as well.
  3. You need to click on the "Open Resource Monitor" on your CPU performance tab so you can track individual CPU usage. Remember, average CPU performance will never give you the true picture. You need to see how each core is doing
  4. That's true of every joystick/throtole, no? Unless you consider the CNC, Laser, development cost (it's going to come with some software) manual labor to solder, put it together etc. And injection molding for plastic parts. And as for the person who mentioned the TMWH having quality "hardware inside" I do like the tactile feedback of the switches. Feels nice and solid. However, the wiring is a piece of crap. I mean they used the minimum gauge possible with the smallest amount of solder you can get away with. If you just blow on it, with the parts open, you can disconnect a cable. And while my TM is older, and never had a stiction issue, I wish they made the connector stronger. I guess stainless steel would have added too much overhead.

  6. Always have to strain relief the connectors. Even when you're setting a claymore, for example. :)
  7. Oh, something went horribly wrong there. The difference between CV1 and P5K+ is pretty big, IMO. And don't forget, you have to adjust the physical IPD to make sure it's clear for you eyes.

The second show was a bit disappointing. Basically a rehash of the first show with the radar/CIC folks added in. Do I think they had scripted lines? Of course, it's TV show after all. Do I think they are all lying? Absolutely not. Could it be a big gov't misinformation? Maybe. But I don't know that our technology skunkworks has the ability to create a flying object capable of flying at 10-30 times the speed of sound. But I guess it's a circular argument if you absolutely don't believe in the possibility of aliens.
  9. Some, but not all of it. Some of it happens at the electrical level that no router can count. So Start Field Delimeter, CRC check comes to mind. But all Ethernet, IP, and TCP header (all overhead) will get counted.
  10. I have a test mission that I created for testing P5K+ visibility. And it's showing 5-10 FPS improvement. *BUT* it could be because I updated the Pitool to the latest.
  11. Dream a little is right!
  12. Remember, it's rate limited by software. Which allows him to burst. So his 300Mbps connection can only be made with optical connections (OC3, 12) which never happens. Or it can happen with multiple 100Mbps connections which is technically possible but he could NEVER EVER go above the physical medium. And the most likely scenario is that he's connected to a gigabit port that's shared. And software limited to 300Mbps. Remember, the overhead is all the headers Ethernet, IP and TCP plus things that only happens at the phy/electrical level like SFD, Preamble etc. And the data portion of an IP packet can only be as big as 1500 bytes. Unless jumbo frame is used which an ISP will never do.
  13. Thank you. I'm a peeker. I don't mind it at all. So I'll definitely remove the gasket and put some electrical tape on the sharp edge. I was ready and willing to cut the gasket if needed. I like working with physical switches/buttons :D And the Huey panel description really helped. I'm still hopeful that after the Hog gets the update, Huey will as well. When I get it, it does look - how can I say this - not as good as the Hornet. And thanks for the report on cable. This was my ding for Vive when I got it. Compared to Rift, it was a pain in the ass.

    I'm sure he's trolling. It's a ready-made thread for it.
  15. Depends one who wrote the calculation. There in lies the problem. When I troubleshoot, and I have to be very very accurate, then I ask. I ask the developer if he's counting 1K as 1024 or 1000. In almost all cases, it's the former. But people who write network specific software almost always default to 1000 bytes. So who knows with SteamVR. And the difference between the two isn't terribly great. What is about, about 3%? It matters when you're doing detailed study, but no one will notice it.
  16. Well, it's actually *non tangibles* that we're talking about. There is nothing that the TMHW cannot do to mimic the operation of the Hornet. Throttle is a moot point since TM missed the boat and didn't create one. I think that's where the sweet spot was. So net/net is: are you willing to pay for a phenotype change? And if it's worth it to people, they'll buy. And as for the "realism" argument, I know for a fact that people want selective realism. If not, build a tight-ass cockpit, strap yourself in with the help of others, crank the heat and AC until your freezing or burning up *EVERY* time you fly DCS. Yup, didn't think so! :D So yes, we're all after a degree of realism and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm just saying that it's not the end all, be all that some claim it is.
  17. It depends on the lens used by the HMD manufacturer. And this is where the "specs" and reality start to diverge a bit. And it also means that focal distance should be a mandatory thing that manufacturers publish. It's a balancing act between what the HMD lens is doing, what your glasses are supposed to do, and what your eyes are capable (or incapable) of doing. So for the glass question, you have to experiment unless you have answers to all of the above (len focal distance, how the fresnel captures the rays etc.) The video in the link below explains it very clearly. As for the FPS, it may be a parallel projection issue that us Pimax users have to contend with. If you google that, you can read about all the glory. https://vr-lens-lab.com/lenses-for-virtual-reality-headsets/
  18. The ISP's software rate limit you. And it's a shared connection so it's never truly get exactly 300Mbps. It will go up or down depending on other connections. For example, on my 1Gbps up/down FiOS connection, When I backup my files, I can reach 900Mbps+ at 1AM. But if I try it at 5PM, I typically get 400+Mbps. And I'm limited to 1Gbps since they have a gigabit handoff to me. Your friend will have a gigabit handoff as well, but software rate-limited. And the QoS mechanism can be quite as simple as random drop to weighted drop, to - even simpler - fair queuing. So you add all that up, and you can experience burst throughput from time to time. And not too be too pedantic but throughput numbers are averages. In reality, it's 100% used or 0 % used. So over time, we average it and get the numbers that we're used to.
  19. If the market supports it. Me, myself, and I will probably go for the Winwing setup. Pending review.
  20. Thanks appreciate the detailed explanation. Mine always default to 168% (maybe 166%) for some reason. I've been yanking it down to 1.0 and setting the PD in DCS. I'm going to have to play around tonight.
  21. Uh oh. that's no bueno for me.
  22. Huh. You're saying that because Vive is at 1200 and that's what SteamVR defaults to? I would have figured that if you left it at 100% it'd just pass it at whatever HMD is set at.
  23. Hmm, that seems a little to extreme. One note of caution though. Folks in networking always count in bits. So 1Kbps is 1000 bits per second. All developers and apps count in bytes. So 1KBps is 1,000 Bytes per second *or* 1,024 Bytes per second. So 1MBytes/sec is 8 Mbits/sec. So you have to be a little careful. Or you do have a horrendous RF interference and you can't get past the 1Mbps bottleneck. Always worth testing with LAN connected PC.
  24. It's an extensive walkthrough. May confuse some folks. So do this WIN+R key. type in cmd and hit enter *OR* click on START and just type in cmd and click on the command prompt app. Type copy and paste the command below and hit ENTER cd "c:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin" When you right click inside the CMD window, it'll paste. Then type in DCS_updater.exe update and hit enter. That's it.
  25. Enjoy it! Looking forward to some reviews. I hope it's only about an 8 day wait for me.
