  1. You can read through the thread (not that long) here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/719950/discussions/0/1651045226218511368?ctp=2 Basically, the penalty is greater the more resolution your HMD can handle. Since you won't be able to take advantage of the added resolution. If O+ users noticed it, every HMD with greater resolution will suffer as well.
  2. I'm 100% with you there. Price-wise, it's a losing proposition. But when I kickstarted it, there were ZERO options. Good time to be in VR.
  3. I'm in the process of backing up my fresh built 1903 Windows so I can go back to 1803 w/o the WMR bug. When it's fixed, I'll boot to the 1903 backup image and update as necessary. Since the Reverb is coming tomorrow, I want the best possible setup to compare P5K+ and the Reverb.
  4. What didn't you like about the controllers? As for tracking, Vive is far superior to every other tracking mechanism. Then I'd have to go with CV1 with external stations. Finally the rest of the WMRs with inside out tracking. Which Rift S and Reverb falls into. I would agree there are more Oculus games than Steam, but honestly, I rarely play anything other than DCS. Robo Recall sometimes.
  5. I would say the reverse and I truly mean it. Once you see the wider FOV, Rift CV1's of the world will feel positively claustrophobic. So if you're just curious and have no intention of getting Pimax, don't take it for a test spin.
  6. *AND* Windows Mixed Reality drivers. Both are required as Reverb is a WMR headset.
  7. I won't belabor the point, but this is where the FoV comes into play! :) PS: Yes, I realized that I just belabored the point. :)
  8. Although timelines are not promised, Nineline confirmed that Ugra (sp?), the makers of Normandy map will be adding the VR optimization. Just and FYI for those new to the VR update. Initially it was "it's up to them to fix....." Now it's confirmed that they will fix it.
  9. That's exactly what P5K+ allows you to do. That's why I can see the planes at 5 and 10 miles out. The clarity between Rift CV1 and P5K+ is dramatic. Their customer service is horrible. Just ignoring customers is a horrible move. I'll be the first to point that out. But the build quality is no worse, no better than Vive, Odyssey, or CV1. I've had them so I can make the contrast. The software is not up there. But the key part is that it's being updated frequently. It's no where near where CV1 is, but they also had 3-4 years to get it right with DK1 and 2. So I'm not at all concerned about them achieving rock solid software soon.
  10. Could you screenshot the various settings? thanks
  11. In a nutshell, a big boost in performance for VR users.
  12. I can tell you (having used P5K+) FOV is a big deal. But it's one of those things that you'll never know until you've used it. Kind of like our perennial "my 4K is awesome and you VR people suck" debate. You can't convey the value of VR with words. And for the same reason, you can't convey the value of FOV with words" There's a part of me that wishes I've never purchased the 5K+. I believe Reverb will be clearer than Pimax. But if the Reverb is "little bit" better than P5K+, I'll likely keep the latter. But I'll know when it gets delivered on Monday. But since signature is required, I'm going to have to go to Mission Impossible mode. My wife is going to need a plan every time she is more than 3 seconds away from the buzzer to answer the door. :D With UPS I can track where the truck is in real time. With Fedex it's "you'll get it when you get it" How times have changed.
  13. I've had that battle since 286 to 286-16 to 386SX to 386 to 486 to 486/DX2 to Pentium to ivy to sandy to whatever it is that i7 and i9 are using! :D it's no different with VR and I for one am glad of the revolution that's marching along. As for the Reverb, they suffer from every other product. Only the people with issues speak up. So the perception is vastly skewed. I don't mean that there aren't problems, but the total # of problems almost always are not statistically low. Cue Gates recent tweet about skewed perception to reality.
  14. May be a minority today, but it's the future of flight sim'ing. I don't know that we're whining, more like "really really really want it" :D I'm happy to wait. I've waited 35 years for the incredible VR experience, so whats a few more weeks? BTW, have you been to FA18 and F14 threads recently? And you think VR guys are whiners! ;)
  15. I hear you. Good times for Hog VR pilots ahead!
  16. Your self-control is at an 11. Mine is like 0.5 when it comes to technology, CNC, power tools and books. :D
  17. My take is this. I had the exact same water AIO cooler and setup except the delid'ing. And it dropped the temperature by 10deg or more. And since I'm a temperature obsessed guy, I had no choice but to delid it. Especially since it's SO easy to do. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3277851&postcount=1 And yes, do back up the drive.
  18. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from Provantage in the past. I stopped because their S&H was getting way too expensive. But ShopBLT.com just informed me that my Reverb is shipping after all. So check them out. You can see the actual inventory by warehouse.
  19. You can spot planes from 5 and 10 miles out in P5K+. You can't identify what plane it is, because my test mission has the planes flying in the (near) same horizontal plane as my plane. But I intend to create another mission that lets me look down on planes. This weekend, I will upload some P5K+ visual clarity/commentary videos. My Reverb should be here NLT Monday so I want to repeat like for like missions.
  20. Are you using the Reverb now? Also, keep in mind that there is a big improvement for DCS coming shortly (I'm hoping tomorrow, but probably in two weeks). It's been my experience that 45FPS is good enough for very smooth VR.
  21. I delid'ed my heat shield. Takes 45min using RocketCool's tool. Very easy to do. I use Thermaltake's AIO water cooler and have the 8700K running at 5.1GHz. For VR, it did make a difference. It's such an easy thing to do, why not do it?
  22. Despite the very controlled tests by folks? Granted in my case, there was a pitools update and Nvidia update. So there are three factors at play.
  23. I have an Acronis backup of the older windows version. So when I get my Reverb, I'm going to to back and see if there will be any differences.
  24. There's a saying in technology that I love. God created the heavens and the Earth in 7 days. (Because there was no install base) It's very hard to change something mid-stride when you have customers. Hard to maintain the (some) backward compatibility etc. It's even harder for developers to change the engine and the IDE. In the future, could AI do things like this? I guess the MS 2019 video hints at it, although I'm guessing 98% of it is marketing than reality. But Nvidia recently pulled off one of the holy grails: Computer drawn human face that's indistinguishable from a picture. I certainly couldn't tell which was a computer drawn face and which was an actual picture. So although the new maps took a LONG time to come to fruition, the upcoming changes like Vulkan adoption will go a long way to opening the road to multi-core engines.
  25. Hmmm, a toss up between the A10C and the Huey.
