  1. Why would it lock at 40? Wait, is Rift S an 80MHz panel? I guess it would make sense if that were the case. But do the keyboard numpad shortcuts now work? CTRL+Numpad1: Disable ASW, go back to the original ATW mode CTRL+Numpad2: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW disabled CTRL+Numpad3: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW enabled CTRL+Numpad4: Enable auto-ASW (default, use this first) But the above *may* require a registry setting. HKLM\Software\Oculus VR, LLC\LibOVR DWORD AswEnabled key and set it to 1. If you're not familiar, you can google for it and there are step by step instructions. The above is for Rift, but I have to believe Rift S works the same way. But the registry location might have changed. And *finally*, The Oculus Tray Tool by ApollyonVR (google for it) should still work with the Rift S. Again, it works with Rift, so I'll go on a limb and say it works with Rift S.
  2. Finally, I'll boot into Windows 1903 later this week to see if there are any differences by not honoring the higher rendertarget. And after I have sorted it all out, I'll post a new thread with my extensive review.
  3. But here's the thing. I see what people mean about less 3D-ness. The buildings look cartoonish. I'm going to have to play around with IPD setting in the game to see if the scale is wrong. Or it could be because the bldgs are super clear and maybe it is supposed to look cartoonish. I need to fly around in the ocean where there are no bldgs to see what's what. But when people say it's like gaming on monitor (clarity wise, I'm not talking about 3D-ness), it's DAMN close to my Predator 34" monitor. I mean it's really really clear. And so much better FPS than my P5K+ it's ridiculous. As for FOV, it's better than Rift. The reason why I know is because when I tried the Rift after P5K+, it was 100% scuba diver's mask view. With Reverb, it's a little better scuba mask view. No where near what P5K+ does in terms of FoV. But the added clarity and smoothness makes it worthwhile. I'll have to play some more tomorrow as I have work to do. Dammit! :)
  4. O.M.G. Reverb is INCREDIBLY clear. I mean I got used to clarity because of Pimax5K+. I thought *that* was a step up from Rfit. Before I got SteamVR Mixed Reality installed (Windows Mixed Reality installed by itself) I thought I was ready to go. Since WMR installed by itself. Then I fired up DCS and it came up as a regular 2D big screen app inside the WMR portal. And even though I knew something was off, I got VERY excited because the 2D DCS in the big panel in the portal looked INCREDIBLE. No different than my monitor. So I took a deep breath and installed the SteamVR's Windows Mixed Reality (search for it in the store). Then I jacked up the SS in SteamVR to 188%. That gives me 2208x2160 resolution. I set DCS' PD at 1.0. WOW. HOLY COW. I mean there was *nothing* in the FA18 that I couldn't read. The small numbers on the MFDs were not a problem. And I got 70's FPS in downtown Dubai at 300' off the ground. I even did the "Ready on the flight line" instant mission because in the past, that ate up FPS like crazy. Just looking at the other parked Hornets made the FPS drop. Here, it just went to 45, and went back up to 70s and 80s. I mean COME ON!!!! @imacken, I have to believe something was wrong with your Reverb. There is a CLEAR difference between P5K+ which already has a CLEAR difference between the CV1. I didn't change any settings yet. My in game setting is below. And the default.vrsetings file had "renderTargetScale" : 2.0 And everything for motion reprojection was commented out (the default) This was in Windows 1809.
  5. What kind of HW do you have?
  6. What Don said. And eat ginger before trying VR as it really does help.
  7. RESEARCH! LOL. That made me smile. And welcome to the world of VR.
  8. I don't work for ED, but the reason for the Beta branch is to test things out. And clearly, as Wags mentioned, some are seeing the benefit and others are not. And they need to debug it to make sure everyone can enjoy the experience. There is no benefit to guessing about root cause as that leads to more conjectures and complaints. So I think it's more about passionate fans who want things "NOW!" :D The state of VR is getting better every day. Rift S came out, Reverb came about. Pimax 5K+ is out. Index is going to come out. I don't know that you can go wrong with any of them. It's a good time to get into VR. As for me, I've had a ball for the last two-three years playing in VR. And it's only getting better.
  9. But you do realize that that's EXACTLY what beta branch is for, right? For ED to test with us, the users? Why else would you have a beta branch?
  10. Wicked, you should post to the link below if you haven't already. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243521
  11. Nagilem, I think you should post on this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243521 I'll have a shot at the Reverb in about 90 minutes. Still wrapping up some work stuff.
  12. I just checked 1915 hrs Eastern US. And the website is down. The server is up, but it's not accepting any new TCP connections. Could be the giant FW that's not allowing connections or the web server itself is down for maintenance. So the server is up, but not listening on port 80.
  13. You should go into Windows updates settings, Advanced, and use the Halt update option.
  14. Ooooh. I don't think so. EVEN if you use the old media creation tool, it'll fetch the latest during the upgrade. I'm pretty sure that's happened to me before. I'm pretty sure I have the media creation tool, so if you want to give it a shot, I can go dig up the files. You can create the bootable USB drive with existing Media creation tools, then delete all files and replace with the older.
  15. Doesn't the TM 1600M have twist rudder built in? You could match that up with a throttle of your choice. There are quite a few to choose from these days. In the INPUT and OUTPUT group, you'll see the subgroups like Virpil who offer throttles. TM sells them separately as well. And finally, the new kid on the block (not yet proven since they haven't shipped) is the winwing.cn with a full F18 option. And yes, there are even the Cougar mods that you can buy to overall it with USB, and hall sensors.
  16. It depends! :D Don't they always. If you've done the normal upgrade from 1803, you can hit WINDOWS+i to get to the SETTINGS menu. On the bottom, you'll see Update & Security. Click on htat. On the Left you'll see Recovery. Click on that. I am a backup fiend, so I just went back to end of April image that I have. I couldn't roll back anyway because I delete the files needed to roll back. But of course, if you roll back, you have to reapply the update. I do believe Windows clears out the "ability to go back" after a certain amount of time, but I"m not 100% positive what that duration is.
  17. There was a time when early access took a while to get to Steam. If that's no longer true, then it would be user convenience driven. I don't like the idea of having to have Steam to play something, but I gut the lure of not having to mess with licenses all the time.
  18. I'm not here to debate the matter. It's a WMR setting. So Vive users wouldn't see a thing. Nor would P5K+ users. But if you don't think it's a thing, then no worries. Doesn't hurt anyone. I myself will be booting into two different versions of Windows just to see. I'm one of those Trust but Verify types.
  19. You can download Process Lasso (bitsum.com) and have it do this for you automatically. If you're getting empirical evidence that it helps, go with it.
  20. I'm going to hang on to my Vive IR station. It'll always lock on to it, I'm guessing. But my Odyssey did OK, so I should be good (I hope). There's enough clutter for tracking.
  21. Gotcha. Rift S is pretty good by all that I've read. And not bad performance wise. I'm also reading that other DCS users are getting steady 45 FPS with Reverb. So I'm hopeful. I'll know tomorrow night.
  22. Lighting is always a problem with inside out tracking. And I *believe* Reverb has less cameras than Rift S. So make sure you have decent lighting, and not just a blank white wall.
  23. I don't think they are all physically the same. But I woudn't be the best judge because I don't use the controllers. But I would agree that Rift gives you the best experience for folks starting out in VR and don't want to muck around for the best experience. Rift S is a great value for the money. But my guess is that it's not as good as Reverb. It's probably not as good as P5K+, but again, I haven't tried Rift S so I'm only guessing.
  24. It's acknowledge by Microsoft that resolution is limited with 1903. Anyhoo, I'm back on 1803, paused the update until July so I'll stay here until a fix comes. Then boot into 1903.
  25. The worse part is, the guy from MS (Geoff) who was active on reddit with the info left MS. Crapola. Granted, one engineer won't affect the release train *that* much, but it couldn't have hurt either.
