  1. Yes. In the 2.0 alpha, the only map is the payware Nevada. 1.5 essentially has the same amount of features as 2.0, but the map tech for the Black Sea/Caucasus areas dates from around 10-15 years ago. If you can't buy anything, throw away 2.0 off your HDD/SDD as you won't be using it anyways. Hope it helps.
  2. Love you Skate, but really, it is in the mods and apps directory; if there was any confusion made, it would be pretty hard to fall for. Let me bring up the Wings of Russia F-14A, are you saying that it is a waste of time too? Not to mention their F/A-18? I'd like to hear a more elaborate way of your point of view, as what you typed was rather confusing to me. I get your point of view, but as would be obvious, different people have different opinions. "A waste of time" it may be, but to say it in such a blunt way coming from such a highly respected member of the community may really lower the OP's spirits. It's fun to create a simple mod. No, really, it is. :P That's why I believe it is best to let the OP finish his/her work in peace. Yes, it may be considered to be "blinding the OP from a reality check," but what would be the real harm of it? It's also good for the consumer base, as they have something to feed on as an appetizer before they get their meal. (The F-5E mod and the official F-5E, for instance.) In another way of helping the community, a consumer may not have enough money at the time of release, so they quench their "thirst" for the official module with the free mod. It's just plain fun to fly mods, anyways. You get a Standard Flight Model designed for that aircraft, AFAIK. It'll likely keep some of them from complaining less about any release nonsense, as long as it's a good mod. As it is, however, the coding present in the game is not necessarily bug-free on modders ATM, nor are those bugs easy to fix. TL;DR: Let the OP finish/feel successful with their work, don't discourage them. No matter how big a modder's project is, it's best for them to know that they couldn't finish but were able to be proud of how far they got in their project, instead of giving up when they only started.

  4. Utter brilliance. [/sarcasm] Time to get on DOS and boot up the terminal for the BBS... :p
  5. I did pull off a 70 nm shot with the SFM AIM-54 the other day in the ISVA F-14A. It did well, but that was both head on and a large target.
  6. My dad's been yearning for a USNF/ATF remake for as long as I can remember. I still play Fighters Anthology regularly...somehow. :joystick:
  7. There's no room to ask such a question; it's redundant. He wants to know where it would be able to be found, that is all. ;) As for me, I wouldn't know of such a modification. It is quite the rare kind of mod to be found. The F-15 Ground Attack mod (on a site I cannot disclose on these forums) could be easily modified to use S5M rocket pods, but before you do that, better yet, before you do any modification of anyone else's free or paid work, get permisison from the author.
  8. A quickly set up mission. A very screenshot-active day for me. Disclaimer: I don't support anti-Georgian sentiments. Anyways... Fictional backstory: Tblisi International is being used as a military hub for the time being; Russia has to suppress its capability by any means: The Tu-160 after takeoff Once the Tu-160 reached it's turning point, off went two Kh-65 Kent cruise missiles. Climbing through the mountains with ease, they went. That is, until their journey was stopped by a mountain too tough to handle. The Tu-160 launched another cruise missile. After escaping the Greater Caucasus mountain range, the Kent found itself nearing the city of Tbilisi. The Kent approached the airfield in silence, passing the city limits. It was stopped by a Patriot missile system only a mile away from the airfield. Close save. However, the Tu-160 still had the fuel to fire two more, and so, the Patriot's save was in vein, as it was too late this time. Mission success! note: This was not done as a Tu-160 mod by me, this was all the AI's work. I sure would love to make one though. :)
  9. Now, let's go back even further than Lock On. Flanker 1.0! I still suck at it...
  10. Messing around with nostalgia. Of course, the original Lock On. :P
  11. Comparing this... to this...
  12. i'm trying to make one for the f-14, but it's proving difficult as loading any weapons that aren't guns crash the game.
  13. Good necropost. Just make sure next time when doing a necropost introduce the reason why you necro'd a thread, like the last guy in this thread did.
  14. There's a little debate going on somewhere else that I made the mistake of joining in on: Whether or not the two Libyan Flogger pilots were lost at sea after getting shot down. The thing is, they both had good chutes, but I talked about how a good chute never means a good landing, and then went on about a certain factoid that the Libyans never commenced a rescue operation. Is that true? From what I've heard, the Libyan government denied any losses, but the US confirmed at least one was killed. I did some research, but it seemed that there was scarce information on the subject aside from Wikipedia, which, of course, would render my part useless if I tried to debate using that. And remember, ladies and gentlemen:
  15. He didn't talk to me for a long while. :P
  16. I can imagine it right now... "Left wheel failure!" "Systems failure!"
  17. So, I hopped on the Virtual Aerobatics server tonight for some good ol' fashoned online free flight. I took my time in the F-15 and Su-27, taking a few screenshots like this: I then decided to fly the TF-51 from Novorossiysk to Krasnodar, where everyone else was. A simple 55 mile trip. I know myself as a bad maintainer of the engine on the Mustang, but I thought if I checked my greens on the gauges and kicked in the supercharger that was all I needed. Silly me. I took off after about a minute or two of warm-up. What a beautiful Caucasian morning. Approximately 25 miles away from Krasnodar, I reached my cruise altitude: 15000 feet. As the light for the supercharger came on, I engaged the low setting. I kept the manifold pressure and RPM to the "green range" for most of the flight. I was having a beautiful view of the mountains nearing the coast, so why not take another photo? Sometimes, I wonder how in the world EDGE could make these photos look so good. I then proceeded to descend to nearly 500 feet as I did aerobatic stunts over the smaller, single-runway airfield in Krasnodar. After doing a couple of stunts (or more) I headed northeast to come back around for another stunt. As I did, I heard a "BANG!" and no more propeller sound. Of course, the prop was done for. I quickly looked down to my gauges to check temps. All were in green, but only very slightly. A spectator in a MiG-21 is watching from the small airbase and says "Land on the grass," or something like that. I have a bit of an ego problem when it comes to flight simulation, so I reply "I can do better." I was about a mile or so away from the airfield at about 800 feet. I did a slow, but reckless turn towards the airfield. Thank goodness I didn't lose lift on a wing. As I completed the turn, I looked at my gauges. 130 knots. I lowered my gear. Closed in on the runway. Aligned the plane with the runway, adjusted for wind. Lowered the flaps. Countered wind to straighten up for the runway. Flared. Touchdown! After using up half the runway for rolling, I turn my Mustang to the grass at a speed of a good jog. I then get out of the plane to check for any external damage, and lo and behold, there was none! Still as beautiful on the outside as she was on takeoff! (Can't say the same for the internals...) The P/TF-51 may be tough to handle, but she sure is fun!
  18. I was watching a mock dogfight between two SU-27SMs on YouTube, and I heard the betty activate. The betty used the same words as the in-game betty uses for angle of attack/over-g warning, so why not make a mod for it? There has been another mod made for the Russian betty, however, that is taken from an SU-25 and the betty is not the same on the Frogfoot compared to the Flanker, as shown in the video. This mod has been modified so it does not cut off the sound file when activated in-game. (It matches the playing length of the original file precisely.) I'm not sure about the Mig-29 having the same betty. The Flanker and Fulcrum share some similar components, but who knows. Installation: Drag the files inside the "Russian betty sound mod" folder found in the .zip file (not the zip file itself!) into the main DCS World directory. Remember to back up your files if you don't like the mod, unless you would rather repair or wait until the next update. THIS WILL REPLACE THE BETTY FOR ALL RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT UNDER STANDARD SYSTEMS MODELING! Click to download! Source:
  19. I notice a stuttering at the peak of a stall in SFM aircraft. The standard flight model has been around for over 10 years, so I suppose most people know what I'm talking about, and it's probably been talked about before. Anyways, what exactly is the stuttering? Is it a bug in the code of SFM, or is it supposed to simulate buffeting at the area from the beginning to the peak of a stall?
  20. I'm not for materialism all that much, but it's fun to show other people the cool thing(s) you got for Christmas! Really nice Casio watch. :D Merry Christmas to all!
  21. Yours Truly F-15 owns the ring! 'Murican 27th, of course.
  22. Maybe...just maybe. It may come, all right. However, it will not come soon. In making road traffic, they most likely had to create nodes for traffic to go to over all of the roads of Nevada and the Caucasus. Of course, without any automated program to do such actions, the process would have taken them quite a while. It would be the same for aircraft. Populating a whole area with aircraft taking off, flying a flight plan, and landing is a long process, as flight plans need to be created, optimization needs to be considered, and non static civilian aircraft models with working parts need to be made. A good idea in theory, but in execution it would be a long while before anything "pretty" could be made out of the project. Most of these points, however, could be considered moot if there were aircraft that flew to a random place a far distance away from the player, never landing or taking off. But then all you are doing is putting lifeless objects in the sky, as if they were drones without any control. In a way, this sounds similar to the Fast Mission Builder, apart from the aircraft generating constantly, unlike the FMB. I would love to see the sight of some Stratotankers with flights of F-16's being fueled in the sky, then after you fly a few more minutes on your CAP, see a furball going on a few thousand feet above Boundary Peak, and decide you want to join in on the "fun". :pilotfly:
  23. You do understand that VBS is a combined arms simulator (bulit off of ARMA's engine), not a full fidelity flight simulator, right? But I wish we could have something like that one day... :D
  24. If I have, say, a 60% off coupon, can I use it with this coupon code too?
