Lizzard Aha! So I was doing it all wrong! I was putting the Huey in a position I wanted it to remain at and pressed the trimmer - it really didn't work very well - I will try pressing the trimmer BEFORE positioning the aircraft - thanks!
-
Are there any rules or tips on how to trim the Huey? I mean some people trim her on the ground even before takeoff. I am usually trying to trim her to fly straight and level, but maybe I should trim her in a specific manner before executing certain maneuvers, like landing, for example?

1.2.7: The "important" stuff

Sling load for choppers. -
159th_Falcon Thanks for the info - it is amazing that you guys have done this, while ED have not. I am looking forward to trying this - keep up the good work.

Too bad, I was hoping to do some ferrying around to capture airfields ;-)

Has transporting troops been implemented yet? I have seen some MP servers with regions in which to pick up troops for transport, however I have no clue how to do that. Do I have to place some troops on the map, land nearby and press something to make them load? And how do I offload them then?

What is TR, STR and SR? Tracking Radar? Search Radar?

Is there any way the game signals to the player, that the mission is accomplished? I mean I can fly a mission, hit the goals, land, taxi to the parking area, turn the engines off and.... nothing. Should there be some popup window stating that I have won or something?

How to deploy weapons in the 1st pilots position?
Gloom Demon replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS: UH-1H
And yes - deleting the controls configuration files helped - the 1st pilots Reflex sight now engages with RShift M. Thanks again :-) -
Strange Mi-8 behavior on startup
Gloom Demon replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
iFoxRomeo That helped, but now if i fly a mission with the chopper in the air - it falls to the ground without the collective being set on start. Guess I'll have to check that HOTAS depending on the type of mission I fly... -
How to deploy weapons in the 1st pilots position?

Got it... apparently i missed the on/off switch and the Reflex site was off - thanks for the help everyone :-) -
How to deploy weapons in the 1st pilots position?
Gloom Demon replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Strangely enough, RShift M doesnt work for me. M works for the 2nd pilot, but I have to manually bring the Reflex sight down. And even then - turning the brightness knob does not make any reticle appear. lorenzoj Thanks for the tip - I couldn't find the Reflex brightness switch until I switched to 2nd pilot :-) -
How to deploy weapons in the 1st pilots position?
Gloom Demon replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Great! Thanks, I'll try that :-) -
When I press m for the Reflex sight when in the 1st pilots position, i do not get anything - even the cross from 1.2.5. And shooting without visual aids is not trivial ;-) Have they changed the design, so that shooting is now only being done by the 2nd pilot or is this a known issue?

When i start the freeflight from Sukhumi mission my Mi-8 for some reason starts lifting of all by itself. My throttle is at idle and i do not touch the controls. To alleviate this I increase the throttle a bit and then pull it back down - the chopper falls back on the strip and stays there. Could it be that I have something wrong with my controls or is that a common bug?

Benefits of new CPU but same graphics card
Gloom Demon replied to Lascaille's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a 8320 and I have no problems playing DCS, FPS drops below 30 only sometimes during multiplayer. However, there's nothing to beating i5 in DCS right now. No need to go for i7 though and the performance gain from 2133 is negligible. If you have the money get the i5, if not - 8320/8350 is not such a bad choice, although it gets hammered by the i5. -
Can someone please explain to me the Vikhr firing routine. 1. I place the target within a circle which, presumably, is the missile's seeker field of view. 2. With the laser designator fired up I shoot the missile and... 3. The circle changes it's position on the HUD, apparently showing the FOV of the next Vikhr on the opposite wing. 4. In order to achieve a hit I have to move the target to the other missile seeker's FOV, otherwise I will miss. What is the logic of that? I mean, the Vikhr is a beam riding missile, so I would presume, that the circle should be left on the target after launch instead of changing to the next missile's FOV. Or, putting it the other way - why does the aiming circle move after I shoot the Vikhr when it should be staying on the target? Just can't seem to figure this one out...

How to repair an aircraft on an airfield
Gloom Demon replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
That is strange - I have placed a fuel truck and a HEMT truck on Kobuletti in a mission I use to practice anti-ship runs and I still can't seem to get my aircraft repaired. Could it be that I have to be in a particular location of the airfield to do that? I do shut the engines, but that does not help - ground crew replies that they cannot comlpy. -
Excellent offer! Got the A-10A, Su-25 and P-51 - thanks ED :-) I wonder If the old problem with differnet modules being bound to different accounts has been solved... Though I have been able to activate all three products seamlessly.
-
If I need to put the Fuel truck to enable refueling at an airfield and HEMT truck for ammo resupply, then what should an airfield have to repair an aircraft?

Is the ARM missiles exploding bug not fixed? When flying the RAF server today I have, again, encountered exploding ARM missiles. Could it be, that I am launching them at an incorrect altitude or, say, airspeed? Or is it still a bug and I shouldn't bother flying SEAD altogether? Track file attached. client-20130907-095004.trk

hreich Great work!!! I deleted Mission Editor and Missions folders in Saved Games and Create Fast Mission works again :-)

I'm at a loss then. If the throttle (collective) should control the blade pitch angle, than I have to press Num+ Num- on the keyboard all the time to climb/descend? In helicopters RPM does not translate into lift - only blade pitch angle? Do I land only using the blade pitch angle or I have to fiddle with Num+ Num- controls also?
-
I appear to have the same problem with landing the UH-1H. Taking of into a hover is fairly easy - the chopper does everything by itself, though maintaining it on the same spot is not trivial. Transition into lift is also easy - i just point the nose down and gather some speed with a bit of collective input. Flying around is no big deal. But when it comes to landing i do not stop failing. :wallbash: I think it is because of my fixed wing mentality - I try to put the chopper into a descent by lowering the collective and at some point the whole thing crashes into the ground no matter what i do. Maybe there is another way of doing it? The problem is that i don't have a clue as to how to lower my airspeed, loose altitude and keep the collective up simultaneously in order to transition into hover before landing. If I keep the collective up I gain altitude, if I lower it - I smash into the ground, if I lower the nose I loose altitude, but gain too much speed - what am I doing wrong? I understand, that while landing I am supposed to loose altitude, lower the airspeed and be prepared to pull up on the collective when the platform begins to shake (transition into hover), it's just that I never seem to get into hover because I either crash or start gaining altitude again. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, because I am really thrilled at the prospect of flying a real rotorcraft and performing missions on it. Thank you in advance :-) P.S. Could it be that that thing that changes the angle of attack of the rotor blades has to be adjusted somehow? Because by default my throttle was mapped to it and i had to remap it to collective.

How does DSCW normally load? 1. I start DCSW and get the initial screen, allowing me to load missions, run campaigns, engage in instant combat etc. 2. For example, I choose a mission to fly and I am presented with a screen outlining the mission and an option to press Fly. 3. Some time passes, while the mission is loaded - quite some time if DCSW is installed on a hard drive (a minute or so), less than that if it runs of an SSD, however it still takes about 20-30 seconds. 4. I fly the mission and, supposedly, after completing it, decide to fly it again from the debriefing screen. 5. What happens then is that DCSW starts loading the same mission again in the same slow fashion, instead of using the data, which is already available. I presume, that if the necessary data is already in RAM, there is no need to load it up again. For example in almost any other game it could take a while to load the game itself to play it for the first time, but then, if you get killed, for example, loading a saved game is much more faster, then starting it up all over again, because the necessary libraries and stuff is already loaded. It seems, that DCSW either does not use the data it needs, which is already stored in RAM, or it wipes it clean, for some reason, after the mission is finished, having to load it all up again, which is somewhat inefficient ;-) I find it very strange, when I load the Huey Tbilisi airport freeflight mission to practice landings (still to no avail, unfortunately ), and have to wait another half a minute each time I want to retry it after another crash and burn fiasco. Please understand me correctly - I am not complaining, it's just that I find this kind of behavior a bit frustrating and unnecessary. Perhaps, when it is deemed feasible, some mechanism could be realized in DCSW, that will retain the data, which was loaded into RAM or cached, in case it is needed again and so that it is overwritten only if the occupied system resources are needed for some other task - that would allow the player to spend more time in the game, other than waiting while it loads over and over again.
