"On September 1, 1939, at 0448 local time, Germany began its invasion of Poland, starting World War II; the Schleswig-Holstein suddenly opened broadside salvo fire on the Polish garrison held by 182 soldiers and 27 civilian reservists." (Operation Westerplatte) -

Discontinuing Weekly Updates - Please reconsider
Hans-Joachim Marseille replied to Cobra847's topic in Chit-Chat
A monthly devblog with a little more oomph would be perfect. A short monthly video-update showcasing changes and answering some forum-posted questions would be even better. Monthly, or bi-weekly depending on the amount of changes. -
DCS WWII: Europe 1944

I'm a mechanical engineer working in electronics and like to fly in real life too in aerobatics trainers, but that in itself doesn't say anything. It's the ability to question that counts. They model part of an engine to perfection (have yet to see proof of that), but don't model combustion air dynamics or environmental changes? We're both here because we like DCS, but I can accept less than perfect (80-20 rule). Perfect is the enemy of good. I think you've just disqualified yourself. -
DCS WWII: Europe 1944
Hans-Joachim Marseille replied to recoilfx's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Exactly ... I can't see how simulating fuel/water/oil hydrodynamics contributes to more accurate flight or engine behaviour when bypassing (clear-air) turbulence altogether (engine air intake). I don't expect RRG Studios will spend that many resources on a single plane, as the DCS: P-51D seems a one-off w.r.t. hydrodynamics modeling (DCS: P-51D was some sort of favor to a big-shot from what I've gathered). Let's see how the Fw 190D weighs up to the P-51D in that respect. I reckon RRG Studios will more or less focus on (EDGE-based) theater content and less on plane modeling (ED responsibility). My prediction for theater is West-Front 1944/45, for example "Unternehmen Bodenplatte" during Battle of the Bulge. That is where P-51D and FW 190D fit in best. -

It starts with your imagination. Remember by , or the older Amiga and C64 flight sims? Immersion is what makes a game memorable, not accuracy per se. -

That is always in the eye of the beholder. I remember playing flight sims that, at the time, critics were raving about but years later totally suck in terms of accuracy. More than accuracy, I want to feel part of the game. -

I am too, for sure ... looking forward to AFM, game immersion and hopefully Oculus Rift prepared (but not necessarily). -

Typically, the biggest boasters suck at flying let alone dog-fighting in a sim. -

Well excuse me for being a rookie forum member ... ... But I have yet to see an out-of-hand debate in the WWII community here while I've seen several in the jet community (most memorable being the F-35 Kinney Interactive one). Speaking of Il-2: BoS; fortunately RRG have something to aim for and exceed ... Give me that Bf 109 with AFM ;) -

Just don't see why some need to bring their cocky attitude to this forum. -

Looking at the pre-update flame war over at the Wag-date thread, I'm glad the haters leave this pre-announcement thread alone. The WWII community (on here ...) seems more mellow in general. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others ... -

Looking forward to a realistic announcement, with decent masterplan that allows enough time for bugfixing and optimization. Nothing can kill a new game quicker than bugs and slow framerates. But looking at IL-2:CloD, that game seems to have improved much since release. Let's have it! -

How about a "Defend the battle group" mission? That would be brutal. -

Eh? Depending on skill level, you may decide to opt for kamikaze as last resort to accomplish the mission. I think it's safe to say it will be a European theater, with two Hi-Fi plane models already more or less available (P-51D, Fw 190D). -

I'll let you win this one, but based on prerequisites FC3 is no stand-alone module in DCS: World in my book ;) -

I too find the latter a rather inflammatory statement ... care to explain why? You obviously don't value the hard work of some enthusiasts here. Or, are you just flaming? That surprised me but I was referring to the selling of FC3 modules (planes), not the game itself. -

Stand-alone games like A-10C and F/A-18C are the backbone of DCS ... the business cards of DCS if you will. DCS: World is the flight enthusiast area, where 3rd party devs come into play. Business focus should be on the stand-alone games and World engine (EDGE), although I imagine selling the loose modules (from FC3) also yields good results. -
Nicely done, almost effortless inputs. If you press space you can use your mouse to look around, making your head movements a little more fluid.

Don't forget the Su-27S has been announced, the jet that started it all for ED ... isn't that something to look forward to also?
