Lights are a bug already reported
-
I'm pretty sure its just the visual, otherwise youd experience adverse yaw, which I have never felt. I wish they would look into this, as it seems the Jato lasts for a decent time after takeoff actually occurs.
-
Not trying to bash.. but according to the 2 videos here It appears that the Jatos in game do not fire long enough. These jatos last more than they do in DCS, carrying the aircraft right into the air.
-
Not my video. But look at 2:50. Its close

I have managed to pull a cobra like maneuver in the mig. Just go around 700 kph and yank the stick back. The nose will travel 90 degrees and the aircraft will just keep plowing forward

I have managed to kill am f15 in the 104th. I fly with my face in the dirt and I also communicate with my teammates. By using an a10s or other aircrafts more advanced rwr I can get better vectors. And I can sometimes try to triangulate their position by using the a10s vector and my own position and rwr. It's very challenging. And I have gotten shot down numerous times, but when it happens it's rewarding. I have also had many more close calls with getting other kills. But just couldn't quite get it right, or just couldn't locate enemy when they got close. Try to learn where the enemys normal flight paths are. Hide in valleys. Pop up every now and then and scan with radar. You may get lucky. If you catch someone at like 20 or 30 km, go back in the mountain. Come out from a different position. If your lucky and timed it right you'll hopefully be close and approaching them quickly. Side question. What is it like on your rwr when you get lock by a mig 21 radar? Does the rwr go bezerk like when an f15 locks you in single track?

Mig21 and fighter maneuverability in todays terms
ff4life4 replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in MiG-21Bis
Yeah I've been pretty intrigued by it. It has a ton of quirks. But I do agree with the low speed handling. For an aircraft that has to have a BLC system and high approach speeds just to keep from being a lead brick, it sure has a ton of controllability at such low speeds. But still I believe that if an f15 gets that slow with a mig, the f15 pilot probably did something wrong. Regardless my best fights against human piloted fighters has been to just suprise them as best as you can. Extremely difficult to do, but in have managed to get lucky a few times. I have had decent luck when coordinating with another 21 or two against modern fighters. Just need to use good tactics and force the f15 or su27 into a compromising situation. I have also had luck protecting a10s by laying low and having them use their rwr to help guide you to find the enemys -
Hm Kh66 against bombers would be really interesting. But I'd find it to be extremely difficult. But if it hits it would make a hugh splash. The manual mentions using rockets as a/a weapons. I haven't tried that yet but it seems it too would be really difficult

There's a flashlight you can use. Can't remember the key command
-
There is a bug already reported where sometimes you can't click on the recovery button or the center jettison. Key bindings still work
-
I haven't managed to find any commands for night vision. Is it not equipped? Do pilots who fly the Mig 21 not use them. I understand they weren't invented when the aircraft was designed but have they been ever added for pilots later on? Thanks
-
Use the keyboard commands and then they will work
-
Thanks. Is there anyway to turn it off? Or are there no controls for it
-
Its blowing straight back from the top of the wing
-
BLC blows air from the top of the flap. Could this air also make the rudder more effective?? If its modeled in the sim
-
Is the Boundary Layer Control system modeled on the DCS Mig-21. The only mention in the manual of it is in the general design of the Mig 21. This system is not mentioned in the landing system. It could have a huge impact on aircraft handling if its properly simulated. If it is modeled, where are the ports exactly. And is there any specific controls for the system. Thanks Devs

FROM THE MANUAL "When the aircraft starts to move, press brakes again to check if braking is even and then release the brakes to continue your taxi. If you taxi straight from your parking place, allow the aircraft to gather about 40-60km/h (20-30nmi/h) then decrease the power to maintain that speed (~65%). At this speed you will be able to use the rudder to maintain direction, so you’ll avoid wasting compressed air when braking to maintain direction. However, if you are making turns, you need to decelerate to 15-20km/h (9-11nmi/h) and use rudder controls and brakes to turn the aircraft." Doesn't really explain much. I only wonder if the BLC system is somehow effecting this

The manual stated that you should taxi between 30 and 50 kph in order to steer without brakes EDIT: should be 40-60

I was asking for this before as well. But sadly it appears there isn't a guide. I have done some research on my own, and have a good idea on the weapons, but I'd really like Leatherneck's opinions, and the data they actually used for each weapon. For A/A I have had good luck with the R-60M. I believe it has some all-aspect capability, and is agile, but range is kinda short. Other than the R-60a, I believe the next best is the R-13m1. I believe it is similar to the Aim-9p, (my own idea due to research). It is rear- aspect only, but I believe it may have a slight edge in range to the r-60 (as before my own opinion.) I would like to do some testing on the range of this vs the R-60m. May be a good option to carry one for firing at retreating aircraft.

Believe it or not, I had a few other close calls for getting kills. I was flying in formation with Beaupower for a while, and he got a kill within 2 miles. I locked the tgt on radar, but I lost him behind a mounting and Beau found him first and killed him with the f15. Almost killed a mig 29 but I lost where he was and he got me. That was a close in fight. And had some instances where I got close to other enemy's but when they got in a good killing position they were taken by other friendly fighters. I noticed with the 21 I am much more careful about using better tactics. And only enter a fight when I have a decent chance, on my terms (unless I'm found first :).. which happens a lot lol Edit: so far I have just been flying lown in the dirt, and pointing the radar up often to see if somethings in the distance. I always try to stay near mountains, and if I find a target I'll run and appear from somewhere else and try to find them then. If I guess right I'll require them close in and will then try to get visual and go from there. A lot of its like fishing. Lots of time where nothing happens but then it gets exciting sometimes Enough of giving my secrets away lol. My next goal is to go Frog and Hog hunting

I did it last night. Killed someone called Ace (and some some combo of numbers 9631) I left this morning for a business trip. I'll try to find the track when I get back. Idk if you know Stuge, but he was there when it happened. Ask him for proof :) Edit: Stuge also killed an su-27 sp mig 21 has a chance. Just gotta use solid tactics and attack when you have the advantage. I'd imagine 2 mig 21s working together could have good success against f15s and 27s. Use one as bait, run into a mountain range for cover and then follow up behind him
-
I managed to use it to kill an f15 on the 104th server against a good pilot. I locked him. Hid in a mountain, when he flew over me, full emergency AB and you know the rest.
-
Use it when you need more power! I believe it was added so the Mig could compete better in a dogfight. Manual says to only use it in 3 min interval. After a 30 second break, you have another 3 min and keep repeating. Edit. It's a 30 second break. Not 30 min
