I need to learn to resist the urge to fire 2 in a row. Just it gets intense during the engagements, just need to remember to relax a bit more. IIRC, I have had the R-3Rs fall off before the double R-60s. But anyway, if you pull enough G's to pull the missiles off, I really believe your over G'ing the airplane. But I'm not 100% sure I need to refer to the manual. And normally its one (or two) r-3rs and done but for some reason I have ended up merging with the enemies more, and having to resort to IR missiles when they hit the deck and I can't get a lock on them due to ground clutter. And if they are maneuvering like crazy I have only been able to successfully use the R-60 on them. Can't get a succesfull lock and hold it with the radar if they are jumping around

I've noticed the same thing as well. Jamming targets don't need to be in locking gate, but need to be in line with it generally. Jamming really makes fighters stand out like really easily. Not sure why people feel the need to do it constantly. It has times where its useful, but it also just turns on a flashing billboard

Shooting first asking later is normally a quick way to get banned lol. That's why I'm hesitant unless im positive it's enemy.
-
For me IFF has been 100% reliable. And if a target is jamming I'll spam filters till I can see them, and then I can iff them
-
I have never been able to use the fixed beam mode to lock a target. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But your right if the target is doing extreme maneuvering, it's very difficult to get or maintain a lock. And yes target ID has been a problem. I HATE how some servers have both f15s and su27s on both teams. It requires me to iff them. And I have had severe hesitations in a furball about who I can shoot or not. It sucks. But I understand their reasoning in order to have balance. Idc about a10s being on both because they are always in their kill boxes. And I always take 2 double racks of r-60s. 4 R-60s and 2 r3r gives me some flexability. And have 4 r-60s should be enough to sneak one in for a kill..plus they look awesome in their double pylons Edit.. and you remember right. Only iff during scan.

I have thought about not taking any IR, but I just can't get myself to do it. IR, despite its drawbacks of being easily fooled, is a great ambush weapon, and for me, the only thing that works after a merge. I'd say 70% of my kills were with R-3R, and the other 20% that were IR could have been R-3R, but there have been those 3 or 4 merges where the agile R-60M made the difference. Also IR is great for sneak attacks. Sometimes if I get a visual on a person, ill go radar off, then stalk them until I get in R-60 range, they never see it coming. Although I debate whether just turning radar on at last second and firing R-3R would be just as effective. But I usually fire 2 R-3R's at a plane to make sure they go down, I've had times where 1 won't get a solid hit and the aircraft will limp around a little. I usually get one plane and run home to get more R-3R's, but I debate now in just taking 4 R-3Rs and leaving the Gun for the close dogfight stuff. EDIT: I just realied i write a book almost every time i post here EDIT 2: And i'm not sure how effective chaff would be at the ranges we are engaging and shooting them at.

Anyone notice the landing gear being extremely bouncy on landing. I'm touching down fairly softly ( I think), but I can't get it to stop bouncing back and forth a bit . Not sure if related

Yes drop tanks wont get refuelled just need to get new ones. However after going below 450L and having the red light come on, the light won't go out even when you fill the internal fuel up

Almost 90% of the F-15s/Su-27s Ive fired at don't do any hard maneuvers. Now for Flares, I don't know anything about R-3S, but for the R-13m1 and my R-60M, they just chase flares like no tomorrow. If someone is flaring, they are useless.. Edit: This happened when I got my first gunkill. None of my R-60Ms hit because he was flaring every second. However by doing that he left a nice path in the sky for me to get close to and use guns

Same with me, I tend to call Rifle a lot. That was smooth as far as mechanics go. Was a nice splash. R-3Rs are wonderful. I think ill call them slammers instead. Seem more reliable than the Aim-120 right now lol. Glad to see you guys are as addicted to this as much as I am.

The RWR sucks, but I can see where Russian design occured. Mig-21 was their first jet with radar I believe. Missiles they had developed at the time were only good in the visual range. So they figured that once you were locked that you could visually spot them. It was just to let you know you may have a missile on you. I don't know this is for fact, just my guess after using Mig21 for a while. Also Mig-21 was designed for use with GCI so they would alert you to threats and vector you in. For me it really sucked jumping from an A-10c and F-15 rwr, especially with the RWR tone mod. It gave you a ton of situational awareness. I at first thought the Mig-21 rwr was useless. Its really not. Yes its nowhere near the level of complexity of the A10c, and I would love to have even the Russian rwr in the FC3, but simply having an Rwr is better than nothing. Just gotta learn to use 45 degree angles to desicpher target height. Also if you are close to terrain, which you should be with Mig-21, when you get a lock you have to fly past terrain, and if you duck below a ridge you know where hes coming from. Now its just a matter of ambushing him while hes likely going to barge over the ridge looking for you. Also its rare i just get a straight lock tone. I usually pick up lighter indications before hand, so I have a general idea of where he is. That system is a rear looking radar IIRC. It only lets you know when someone is at your 6, nothing to do iwth radar.

Do not flame me, but I don't think hes declaring that it is delayed because of comments, its just that people were speculating that the images were removed, and he was stating he didn't believe that negative comments would influence ED. But what the h*ll do I know. EDIT: But I agree its confusing.

They have taken direct action in a some occasions where people were upset, especially over a particular sale which I'm not gonna mention, and a certain crowdfunding fiasco, which is also nameless. Those are a few example of direct action I remember. But I'm pretty sure they look through them more often than we may think. They aren't going to officially respond to everything, and they may not do everything they say. But they want to serve their customers. It's just theirs a fine line between constructive criticism and whining that needs to be filtered out. I want EDGE badly, but I also want it done properly.

Well I don't know much about the F15c in RL, other than what I know from FC3, so if thats true, then I'll agree with your assessment that its harder to fight against an ASM F15c. Believe me I know MiG-21 should suck against F15c. I know that story about the 2 F-18c that shot down 2 MiG-21 without even dropping their bombs. As an American, I truly hope in RL that our jets would have no problem taking down something like an MiG-21, or really any other aircraft for that matter. But I think we are towing the line in this thread too close between game and RL. Mig-21 in real life should get shot down everytime against an F-15c. The accomplishments we have here are from us flying mostly 1 on 1 vs other "modern" jets in an unorganized battle setting, with an old weapons platform that has a max missile range of effectively 2-3 miles, with a radar scan range of 15 miles, vs a modern jet with a scan range of 40+ miles, and missile range of 20+ miles. We are just happy in our accomplishments of using better tactics than our adversaries, and always catching them with their pants down. Its extremely difficult to fight against an f15 or su27 with the Mig-21 (in DCS) and thats why we are proud of what we can accomplish.
-
I understand. But i was more referring to the fact that someone in an F15c can find you on RWR, press "3" and just point at you, it will lock on anything under 10 miles, and fire 8 slammers in a row at you. While with ASM on the Mig-21, in a short timespan you need to use the finicky radar, IFF target, lock target, setup which pylons to fire, IR/SAR, visually acquire enemy, while tracking range and firing solution. Theres more to it. And yes an ASM f15c I would hope would have more capability, but someone is going to need to have their systems knowledge very high in order to use that capability. A huge growing pain of the Mig21 is learning how to deal with the many steps involved with getting a missile off on a target, and do it under a lot of stress in close proximity to the enemy. It would be a ton easier if i could just push 3 and lockup anything within almost the max range of the mig21 radar.

This only happens when I have loaded the double R-60m racks. After I fire both missiles off a rack. One still appears on the rack.

No unfortunately the Sabre with its ranging radar is 10x better than the Mig for making a guns solution. The Mig-21 sight is set for 300m! Thats extremely close. Personally I have only been using the fixed net, but I will try with the gyro sight to help. Mig-21 cannon is basically like a pistol though, not a lot of punch and you gotta get up close. Also its very accurate, which is great for A/G, but not for A/A. I like the f15 gun as it disperses, kinda acts like a shotgun. Not to mention the gun-site for it is phenomenal. And yes Sabre/P51 taught me good decent dogfighting and BFM skills as well. Has been unbelievebly handy in multi with the Mig. Not just for dogfighting into a gunkill, but its helped immensely with what do do after I merge with someone. I have usually been able to get on their 6, or at least rear hemisphere for an r-60 shot. Many of those guys have made huge mistakes after the merge which gives me an advantage. Mig21 sucks at sustained turning, but I've noticed that at high speed I have one solid turn I can make, and its really gotta count
