  1. Was flying on the 104th yesterday and my external tanks had no fuel in them. I was loaded up with 2 Aim9s and 6 aim120s and didn't notice any roll behavior. I also did jump in the VA server to do some tanking with the F15, and for some reason it was bugged as well. I had about 2000 lbs before I got gas. I stay attached to the boom and the gauge climbed to about 9,400, then it stopped and wouldn't go any higher. I did not get a transfer complete from the tanker, so I stayed on the boom. About 5 minutes later still connected, the gauge still read 9400 so I pulled off the tanker, with about 9,400 indiciated. About 5 minutes later I look at the gauge, now its reading 13,500. And after afterburning around for a while the gauge refused to go down. Don't know if that was introduced with this patch as well, but I vaugely remember issues with it a while ago.
  2. Im gonna say its a lot of deaths for a lower number of kills. I'm no where near the best at using the MiG-21 A/A but on a good, and i mean a very good day I may get 1 Kill for every 1 or 2 airframes. And thats when I've by sheer chance gone up against people who aren't highly skilled in their aircraft and tactics. An average day 1 Kill for 4 airframe. On a day I'm flying against very good pilots, who use teamwork, like the 104th Squadron guys, I have 0, I mean 0 chance. They are very good and know their F15s well. But for kicks I got bored dying last night in my Mig so I jumped in a F15, and got 5 kills with 2 airframes against very good high scoring pilots so I firmly believe the Mig21 taught me a lot. :thumbup:

  4. I must say its upsetting how many times I beat someone after a merge with the 21. Although on second thought, I don't mind, I love firing the R-60M up the tail of an F15

  7. They should allow a player to control the boom, that would be fun.. er.. there might be a few more cracked canopies though :)
  8. I think what Grizzly is reffering to is something like loading one bomb on station 1, and another bomb on station 4. But 2 and 3 empty If you select the 1-2 selector, the station 1 bomb should drop. If you select the 3-4 selector, the station 4 bomb should drop

  10. Im averaging 45-60 fps with the Mig-21. Running an I7 3770 and a Gtx 660. I do have the view distance on Medium though, but I prefer the smoothness, and when flying high I don't notice anyway. I know its Cliche to say this but I feel that the Mig21 will have good frames with EDGE, as if I recall it was built for the Edge engine which was supposed to be released a while ago.
  11. I have tried all different kinds of releases, and I always have the same result. All the bomblets hit in a tiny circle. Fairly useless right now.
  12. Don't believe the training mission is supposed to be narrated. Believe it was text only. Glad your enjoying the Mig-21. I myself cannot even count the hours I have flown this thing. I love everything from doing cross map cruises at high altitude, to providing CAS, ground attack, strike missions. To even taking this thing up in multiplayer and scoring kills on modern fighters. Its DCS's first full fidelity multirole supersonic jet, and I think its a great one to get started with. No Hud so you need to learn the basic instruments, and it has little automation so destroying targets is difficult. LN has done a fantastic job. The wait and delays sucked, but the end result is well worth it. Edit: and a bent landing gear is far from the worst first landing I've seen! Just don't chop the throttle on final, Mig has a blown flaps system which increases lift. May help prevent you from falling short.

  14. Fixed mode is used for ranging purposes for ground attacks with rockets/cannon. Also fixed beam can be used to lock up fighters when they are close in. The radar is useful for searching for targets, especially bombers. And yes, I guess technically it is only good for guiding the R-3R, but if you check out the Mig21 vs Modern fighters thread, you will see that over 80% of our kills on F15s and Su-27/33 are done with R-3R. No other IR missile from the Bis time period has all aspect capability. R-3R despite being only a 2km range weapon, is the best for going against fighters in most circumstances. ADD: Also the biggest thing (for DCS) is the IFF functionality thats coupled with the radar. Without it we would have no idea what we were shooting at in an aerial engagement. 2nd add: I really cannot emphasize how usefull the R-3R is. When I first started flying on the 104th with the Mig, I'd always take all all IR loadout. I had a couple kills, but I had a ton of missed opportunities on aircraft that were approaching head on. Then I started carrying a pair of R-3R's and I have never not gone into A/A without a pair. Adds another level of options for what you can do when attacking an enemy. IR is still good for after a merge, or if you spot them and are tracking them visually, you don't need to turn your radar on and alert them to your position. But for everything else R-3R is fantastic. 2 more things: It would be impossible to acquire any targets without the radar. Radar has a range of 30km, and it would be difficult to spot aircraft visually at that distance. Second the radar is good at giving you information about when to launch missiles. Its been very accurate for me, especially with the R-3R, if I fire within the paramaters it will hit. And its useful for ranging IR missiles as well. Its surprising how much less range the missiles have when they are running full AB away from you, and how much extra range they have when they are really closing on you very quickly (R-3R for head on). Sorry I just love my RP-22. Its primitive, and old but it gets the job done when you use it properly.

  16. ?? ED is doing F/A-18C, Cortex is doing F/A-18E Super Hornet. Unless they do a D/F model, which I doubt it.

  19. Yeah I know the jamming is completely unrealistic in DCS. I remember reading a book about a pilot in Vietnam. His backseater in an F4 locked a B-52, and he said like 100 false targets appeared in scope, and the ranging gate was pulled off the screen. He told him to never lock them again lol. EDIT: And its another reason to get more comfy with IR missiles, if they ever implement proper ECM. And of course know the Gun well, it can't be decoyed :). At least not yet untill they have a laser shooting the bullets themselves lol
  20. I need to learn to resist the urge to fire 2 in a row. Just it gets intense during the engagements, just need to remember to relax a bit more. IIRC, I have had the R-3Rs fall off before the double R-60s. But anyway, if you pull enough G's to pull the missiles off, I really believe your over G'ing the airplane. But I'm not 100% sure I need to refer to the manual. And normally its one (or two) r-3rs and done but for some reason I have ended up merging with the enemies more, and having to resort to IR missiles when they hit the deck and I can't get a lock on them due to ground clutter. And if they are maneuvering like crazy I have only been able to successfully use the R-60 on them. Can't get a succesfull lock and hold it with the radar if they are jumping around
