  1. Mk 1 eyeball is the traditional saying. Mk 2 would be an improved version of it hence it doesn't really work as well
  2. NTTR. Actually idk I always see the meme with the take my money so I guess it was in the back of my head
  3. If I'm not mistaken the ASO (?? forget the number) strips that go at the JATO attach point do carry chaff. I have noticed it pops out 2 flares along with a chaff bundle. The manual also mentions to set a given ration of Flares/chaff for best effect. I dont' remember the number off hand
  4. Why would anyone take an jammer? We need the gas!! Anyway all joking aside I wish there was more information on this as well. I have tried using it limited against ai and a few times in multi player and I really can't seem to understand if it does anything. But to be honest I'm not sure if the effectiveness side falls on LNs or EDs really. Ecm has never been modeled that well. It's better than it is now, but i have noticed that they still act somewhat unrealistically. I hope to get word on this as well.
  5. Amazing videos. I have the same feeling now when I jump into an f15. Feels like a cakewalk now :)
  6. This video was very cringe-worthy. However you have done the most difficult thing, which was get close to your enemy and be in a position to strike. The mechanical skills will come with practice. But don't give up!
  7. 100% agreed Hadwell. Using the Mig-21 as a weapons platform really needs to be second nature. You really need to know exactly what your doing and be efficient between selecting pylons 1-4, IR/SAR, Radar on/standby, TDC slew, locking, IFF, ground clutter filters, jamming filters. It should all be second nature. The hard part is finding and getting in range of targets, while avoiding missiles and guns yourself. That's where difficulties should occur.
  8. After jettisoning the Jato rockets. I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but it seems that the aircraft still has the "sounds" that they are still attached. The aircraft noses down immediately upon jettisoning them, which leads me to believe they no longer affect flight dynamics, at least with weight. However you can hear a whooshing sound in the F2 view, and the weapons view button points to their location on the Mig-21. The whoosing sound is especially weird when you have the canopy jettisoned. If I accelerate past mach 1, then decelerate to below mach 1, i hear a BANG. Now there is no longer the whooshing sound outside, and the weapons view no longer shows anything on the airplane. I'm not really sure what is going on here but something is amiss.
  9. It is very satisfying when you get a kill against moden planes. I started first by going after where enemy a/g planes worked on the 104th. (Don't hate me lol). I would stay low sneak in and hit one or two a10s or su25s and run back home. Beware that a10s are tough to take down. Hit them with at least 2 missiles to be sure they go down. Then I started practicing against fighters. While it's very difficult, and I usually die more than I kill, it's valuable practice. Plus it's an absolutely amazing feeling to kill a fighter with 30 mile range missiles with a 1 mile range r-60m from behind when they had no idea you were there! I have also noticed that figthing in the Mig will really make you a much better fighter pilot in the modern fighters. Not having good technology forces you back to learn the basics. You really need to out think the enemy, and strike them when you have the advantage. Having no hud, basic radar, and basic rwr, relatively shot range weapons really makes you a lot better when you have good equipment. Aside from the joy of flying the Mig 21 i have learned a TON of skills, and now I'm much more successful when I fire up the f15. These skills will stay with me as I go on to the F-18c and other fighters that come out. Not to mention when I team up with someone on TeamSpeak you really learn a lot about communication and tactics. A favorite was using one as a bait and the other hiding in the mountains below as a hunter. Flying with others will build your teamwork skills. Yes it will be difficult to learn to fight against modern planes with the mig21. It will be downright frustrating at times. However skills learned here will really be valuable
  10. I have tried this mode and personally I have had 0 luck with it in the heat of battle. For this situation I carry R60m or R-13M1 :D
  11. This won't work when carrying R-60's and R-3Rs, I have only noticed it with R-3R's and R-13M1's. But if I have the IR/SAR selector on SAR and I have a R-3R pylon selected, If I put the pipper over an aircraft, it will slew the pipper and give me a lock tone. It will act the same if I had an R-13m1 selected with it on IR mode.
  12. If I land below 450L fuel and I refuel the aircraft. The ground crew fills up the tanks, and the fuel counter gets set to the proper place, however the red 450L fuel light stays illuminated.
  13. Arma is to first person shooters, as DCS is to flight sims.
  14. Never though about the r55. I thought they would suck so I never loaded them up. I never chose r-3s either. I have taken r60m because it's really maneuverable and the sensor is good. However it loves to chase flares. That's why I have tried r-13m1 as it seems to me to chase flares less. If the r-55 is really good at not chasing flares I may start taking it. I know it's not a dogfight missile but I try not to dogfight with mig21. One pass and haul ass. Flares have been why the r60m for me have been less than steller. Also it's not reliable in taking down a10s in one hit. I will test all the IR missiles this week using scenarios i make in the mission editor. I'll let you know findings
  15. Hey I appreciate the response. After flying the Mig21 up against other fighters a lot of these tactics I have learned as well. I am usually always staying down low, and try to use AWACS to direct me toward where the enemy planes are located. Keepin my Radar off until I know there within 15 miles and closing on them fast. I then try to get a quick lock on, and a quick r3r shot off. Ill follow the missiles path and ill usually be able to visually acquire the target. I continue to support the missile. If it misses i will either fire a second one, or I will go radar off and switch to R-60M. (R-60M isn't very good against A10c. They have a low heat sig, and they have that missile warning system, so it will alert them to the launch and if they pop flares the missile has a good chance of chasing them. But the R60M is good against hot fighters.) Thats my goal, is to hit em fast and move on. My comment about the radar not looking down good comes from the times where I have tried to go after a10s that were far away at 20k feet (info from awacs). Ill try to fly high to save fuel (since it was over 100 miles to get to the tgt area). ill be at about 18,000k when there at 20,000 and they will dive, but then I go radar off and attempt going in with guns/IR. I have been using the R-13M1 more as well, I have gotten an f15 kill with it. I believe it is equivalent to the Aim-9P. You can't carry it in doubles, but for some reason I have noticed they are more resistant to flares. Im not sure if its just luck or what. They have slightly longer range, and pack a much bigger punch as far as warhead goes. I have hit a-10s with r60m, and have had them not go down. R-13m1 put them down every time. But try out the R-13m1 and let me know what your experiences are.
  16. To be honest I would kill to have an r-73 on the Mig. It has a really good seeker, all aspect, and I believe more range. As much as I love the r3r, if a pilot knows how flimsy the Mig 21 radar is, they can just dive straight to the deck and the radar will lose lock, hence r3r now has gone stupid. I also really like when I have the chance to acquire a target visually, is to turn radar off so they think I went away or are targeting someone else. But if the targrt is head on, or something with a low signature like the a10, I have no choice but to use r3r, and thus alerting them with lock tone. I did some flying on the 104th yesterday. Flew over to where the enemy a10s were operating, and orbited slowly for 40 mins waiting for someone to start attacking our ground units. Found a a10, and took him down with 2 r3rs. I then went to turn around to head home cause I was low on gas, when I saw another a10 on radar. Locked him, but he was straight head on, my r60m wouldn't lock on, we passed both firing guns at each other and missed. Then I went to go distance myself and re attack sonce I know I can't turn with an a10 and I need to be behind him. But apparently he pulled so many g's he snapped his wing off by himself lol. Then i went home. I know video would be better but I don't record as of yet.
  17. I do th same. Pair of r3r and either 2 or 4 r60m. I get most kills with r3r but if i end up in really close, or I'm below them and I want to sneak up on them r60m is best
  18. Note to those considering making the pre-purchase of DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight at the time of initial open beta availability. The Mi-8MTV2 module is still a WIP product and will continue to recieve updates and additional features as it moves toward a final release version. Currently we are still working on an English draft of the flight manual and translation of the campaign missions, although anticipate having these completed, at least in draft form, in short order. What is already included is the Quickstart manual and some interactive training lessons to get you started that will cover the start-up procedure, weapons fire, and a takeoff demo track. The first three missions of the campaign are also included. The flight, engine, and fuel systems modeling is essentially complete and thoroughly tested by our very own senior Mi-8 pilot managing the project as well as other subject matter experts involved with development and testing. The damage model is still in progress. Weapons currently fully modeled include unguided rockets and three varieties of external gun pods. Like other elements of the product, some avionics and systems modeling is still in-progress. Our plan for final release includes fully modeling all of the aircraft's systems and avionics with the exception of the Flight Data Recorder, IFF system, environmental systems, Voice Cockpit Recorder, and the gun camera. At the time of writing the following system are still incomplete or partially complete from the planned modeled set for final release: - АРК-9 ADF - Ядро-1М HF radio - РИ-65 Voice Warning System - ЭСБР electrical bomb release system - Signal rockets - ОПБ-1р bombing sight of the pilot-navigator - Onboard machine guns - Sling load - Game mode http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1858593&postcount=3
  19. Goose was in reference to Goose from top gun. He has also reference many F14 related things with avatars. Somewhere buried through the 57 or so pages is the case we have that its an f14
  20. Servers have the option of not putting them in the inventory. So yes on servers where they don't want nukes there won't be any available
