  1. You don't like that a significant number of people have written you off as a garden variety bigot? Tough.
  2. No it should work just fine. Been done by loads of people with no problem AFAIK...
  3. Girlfriend chips in with "I'd hit that..."
  4. Well if you are considering civil flight sims, Prepar3D is very much worth consideration. It's a derivative of ESP (the commercial version of FSX) and is still under active development, unlike FSX. It's a bit more expensive (though academic licences are available), but being FSX/ESP derived, most FSX addons are compatible in some form (whether by a bit of tweaking or they explicitly support P3D) and if you have a modern PC it makes much better use of the graphics card. There's honestly not that much to choose between FSX/P3D and X-Plane, they are both great, but there is more top quality payware for FSX/P3D than X-Plane (A2A Simulations, ORBX, RealAir, Majestic, PMDG being the ones that immediately spring to mind). There are freeware options for both but none come close to the top payware, so expect to spend some serious $$$ on addons. Neither X-Plane nor FSX with TacPac come close to touching DCS for military simming, but they are heads and shoulders above DCS for civil simming.
  5. Alternate history, Germany gets one over on the allies, lands in Florida, heroic allies last stand outside Vegas? :pilotfly:
  6. They are both fine brands with fine aircraft and, more importantly to my point, truly global companies so picking either on the basis of the nationality of the engineering is pretty futile ;)
  7. Well that makes it clear at least.... So you aren't going to fly in the 787 then? Thales supplied the power circuits and batteries and we all know how that turned out. And how many other Boeing models contain French electronics? Sounds safer to me to just go by bus.....
  8. Yes, because nothing Boeing made ever crashed due to manufacturing or design defect....
  9. Only because Airbus have standards to maintain, wouldn't want any of those grubby Boeing types cluttering up our lovely pristine planes.... ;)
  10. You mean you missed the WIP shots? ;)
  11. Satisfied X52 Pro user here. No it's not as good as the Warthog, but it's not even close to the same price and doesn't need separate rudder pedals. It may not be carved from hardened unobtanium, forged for a million years in a distant star, but mine has lasted 8 years so far and is still in great condition. And unlike the G940, it's still being made.
  12. Nope, don't change it, it fits perfectly.
  13. Yep, count me in line for any full fat DCS Frogfoot, whatever variant....
  14. If you give a little bit more detail we might be able to help, it's not clear what you are having difficulty with? Does it not move or can't you hover it? You can set the keys up in the GUI, I wouldn't worry about profiles, it's usually better to make your own.
  15. F102/F106 Delta Dagger/Dart (As they are so closely related, I've no particular preference). More than any other Century series, they (visually) epitomize the new ground being broken during that whole era in military aviation design, being like pretty much nothing else up to that point. The dramatic delta wings and sharp tail, the distinctive angular canopy, the nuclear tipped armament, etc.... Yes they were built for fairly specific roles, no they weren't an unqualified success, but they were exciting advancements and probably the most exciting (for me) fighters in that series.
  16. No, the analogy still works for addons. Unlike DCS, FSX is a dead codebase and showing it's age and needs addons to bring it up to scratch, FSX will still be FSX in 10 years time, P3D may be faster and cleaner but I doubt LM will worry about Scenery, Weather and ATC when anyone who cares will swap it out, DCS is still actively developed, perhaps not at a pace we would ideally like, but it will grow. Terrain, outside of ORBX and a few airport makers, there is an awful lot of dross still for sale. Most of the ATC addons are limited to airline traffic only due to engine limitations (want to step outside your flight plan and still have ATC work properly? No can do sir). Now weather is the one area I can genuinely say FSX is ahead, I wish DCS could compete with my REX weather engine. As for payware/freeware, *shrug*. Quality is worth paying for. And DCS birds are very much quality.
  17. But the flip side to that is that there is an ENORMOUS amount of garbage for "open" platforms such as FSX (some of it quite pretty and expensive too), with very few people producing genuinely good study level aircraft. For every PMDG/A2A Accusim/FSLabs/Majestic plane there's a whole host of planes of lower (and sometimes very dubious) fidelity, many of which may look like their namesake but are basically the default systems and flight model with a pretty skin on them. Having recently re-entered the world of FSX (admittedly via P3D), I was surprised to find the difference in the number of genuinely study sim level aircraft available much smaller than you would have expected if you just looked at the number of planes on sale. DCS may be a walled garden, but what a beautiful walled garden it is....
  18. Awesome shots :) Looking forward to it!
  19. But much better for marketing... "Get it whilst it's hot, DCSW 2.0" *groan*
  20. I assume LO/FC1/FC2/FC3..... Not that I necessarily agree with the point, but I can see where he's coming from.
  21. Where's the option for 'anything with wings or rotors'? [emoji6] DCS: Wright Flyer, DCS: F-22, DCS: Duo Discus, I don't mind, just keep em coming [emoji2]
  22. Thought the forced P51 was a bit of a cheap shot, but this is a result I can live with.
  23. A day, a week, a year, doesn't matter. There are plenty of other things to do in life even if it never comes out.
  24. Plus, adding PLAAF and ROCAF gives us one of the few plausible Mustang vs Mustang options... ;)
  25. I doubt it. FC3 was a stopgap to get fast movers into World before DCS: Fighter. The chances of getting dedicated FC3 level aircraft are slim to none, if only because the cry will always be 'why not make it clickable?' Though replacing 'arcade' with SSM sounds like a plan, I suspect it's more work than it would be worth in sales...
