MiG-29A FF: capabilities and how will it fit into the (meta)game?
some1 replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
Not what I'm seeing, but nevermind, our experiments have to assume that DCS engine fuel consumption is dead on accurate. Either way, both manuals agree that the maximum speed for safe droptank release is 0.85M, so if your goal is high performance intercept, you have to get rid of it before you go supersonic. There's no penalty for releasing the tank with some fuel left in it. -

some1 replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
The high performance intercept profile "by the book" is: takeoff, accelerate to 0.85M at 1000 meters, then climb to 10 km at 0.85M, then accelerate to supersonic speed in level flight. Load the aircraft with missiles, subtract ~100 kg of fuel for startup and taxi, then try this profile. By the time you reach 10 km, the tank will be empty or nearly empty. -

Different manuals from different years can have different numbers, there isn't much room for interpretation. It may be an early limit that was lifted in later years. The fuel tank is a disposable item, by the time you reach supersonic it's empty anyway. -
MiG-29A FF: capabilities and how will it fit into the (meta)game?
some1 replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
The Polish manual for the early type indeed says 0.9M limit with the centreline tank, no G limit if empty, otherwise up to 4g. 0.8M limit with A2G ordnance. -
Not quite, the error is bigger than that. More like whoever coded it, thought the diamond ring should form inside the aircraft silhouette, rather than outside. The bug also means that the gunsight is very inaccurate if you try to use it by the book. Dialing the real target distance read from the aircraft labels gives better result, but obviously that's a cheat.

The pinky rotary is an axis, with a center detent. Not spring loaded. The right F-15EX throttle also has an axis that is spring loaded to center, which works more like the pinky rotary in the real airplane.

HMD TGP preview has brightness fixed at 100% regardless of HMD brightness setting, which makes the feature completely useless. HMD at 20% brightness HMD at 0% brightness HMD at 100% brightness A10hmd.trk

Mig-29 Pitch Damper Improved = More Stable Flight
some1 replied to Steinsch's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
The milion dollar question is, does ED consider SAU system part of Flight Model or Systems Modelling. -
Maybe this is the issue: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/341945-gunsight-ranging-is-incorrect/#comment-5366855

The ring size does not match the target wingspan at the distance read from the scale. This results in inaccurate gunsight ranging. Su-27 has a wingspan of 14.7m, distance is set to 300 meters on the scale, yet when label says 300m the aircraft does not fit the circle. GunsMig15.trk

MiG-29A FF: capabilities and how will it fit into the (meta)game?
some1 replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
Polish one. It's more of a question of what will be the cutoff point for ED. You could argue the same way, that our F-16 block is "wired" for APKWS and bunch of other weapons, good luck with convincing ED to add them. Personally I don't mind having extra weapons to choose from, the more the merrier. -

some1 replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
Not really, as the manual I have explicitly says that the weapons on symmetrical pylons should be of the same type and version. So no mixed rockets salvos. But that manual also does not mention R-27T at all, so who knows how things worked when that weapon was added. -

I don't think R-27T was used on early MiG-29 variants. Maybe as a later mod/update. -
Not much difference except for western radios and imperial cockpit instruments. Underwing fuel tanks may or may not be an option in ED model.

That's an AI picture, no real aircraft looks like that

MiG-29A FF: capabilities and how will it fit into the (meta)game?

And on the previous videos we saw Ch-47 with the FLIR addon (now removed), or F-15E with Russian ELINT pod of all things. Everything is subject to change. -

No bombs or rockets on outer stations, same as it is now with FC aircraft. Probably no S-5, only S-8 or S-24 to choose from. S-5 was being phased out by then. Probably no mixing of bombs and rockets. The pilot has choice of single release (for training), pairs, or full salvo, but not the spacing interval. For A2G, CCIP or DiveToss mode with designating target through the HUD. DiveToss release angle pre set by ground personnel. There's no bombing on INS coordinates. Probably no mixing with more than 2 missile types, as the armament panel only allows selecting "outer rails first" or "inner rails first" when firing A2A missiles. Not sure about mixing A2A and A2G on one flight. EDIT: yes, it's possible to mix A2A and A2G. One countermeasures program, set before flight. -
Mobile RSBN/PRMG stations for mission designers
some1 replied to some1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
IIRC they coded it before ED added RSBN to DCS, Mig 21 is older than L39. -
Currently in the whole DCS there are only four airports with working RSBN and PRMG landing system, all on the Russian part of the Caucasus map. A better solution is needed to fully utilize the aircraft at nigh or in bad weather, on different maps. In real life these stations were mobile and in theory could be deployed where needed. The on board INS also depends on RSBN for position corrections.

Technically this unit still controls R-862 radio, but it has more memory for stored frequencies and direct entry by the pilot. The modifications to Polish MiG-29's navigation systems done in the early 2000's, around the time the country joined NATO, are a bit more extensive: Collins AN/ARN-153 (TCN-500) TACAN Collins ANV-241MMR VOR/ILS GPS Trimble 2101AP Western IFF

That's F4.

The bearing and range in the upper left corner of TAD should be relative to the cursor, not the ownship. Unless the cursor is over ownship of course. Source T.O. 1A-10C-1, chapter "TAD format". The one easily found on the internet. Basically like in other DCS jets, the bullseye-cursor position should be visible on the screen without much action from the pilot, so it is easy to make and resolve bullseye calls.

investigating Mission 8 - warrior goes radio silence
some1 replied to arneh's topic in Bugs and Problems
I played this mission yesterday and can confirm that this happens. AWACS is constantly spamming about "pop up targets" somewhere in the distance, and this blocks custom messages from other parties. These messages appear in the message log, but no audio and no text on the screen. Very easy to miss. Also the DCS JTAC, he's useless, he just said "no further tasking available, you can depart" right from the start. There are coordinates for the bunkers on one for the kneeboard cards but not anywhere else in the briefing documents. Anyway finding the bunkers is not hard, destroying them with the limited amount of HE weapons is. I've passed this mission only because I've saved my wingman for this task. Meanwhile, I was busy hunting Iglas hidden between the tents, that need to be destroyed to advance the mission.
