  1. I believe that is simply an impression that missile leaves when observed in say tacview. When launched, almost all of them are going straight during first 10-30 sec. As that period overlaps with both engine runtime and opponent reaction time (he is not evading yet, due to slow reaction, or on purpose), missile is guided in a straight line as target is "non-evasive". Also, all of the above real-life-pilots opinions regarding R-27 may be affected by their understanding of what a "mid-range missile" is. You see, when you have R-60 and R-73 that are in a short range category, everything that can reach twice as much can be considered as "mid-range". Despite all data regarding R-27xyz, in about 95% of cases I was not able to hit a target if it is further then 30 km away when fired upon. If I launch at 30 km, and target immediately starts to evade, R-27 will run out of energy. Therefore, I have to launch it at about 20 km. That is about 4-5 time practical range of R-73 and sometimes almost 10 times that of R-60. Now, if someone tells you that you have a missile with a range "5-10 times further then short range missile", you will say "well, that must be a mid-range missile, no?". Now, if you have to get as close as 10-15 km to get high PK, I would suppose that R-27R could be a better choice over R-27ER, cos its lighter and it would accelerate faster. And at that ranges it will not loose much of its energy by the time it hits/misses a target. And, if you take above into account, why bother carrying a heavier missile (that will lower you maneuverability) when you can do the same job with a smaller one? Especially if you cannot put extended range to a good use cos your radar may loose its lock at higher ranges. There is always something behind any opinion that is important, but is forgotten to be mentioned. Most soldiers prefer a particular weapon only cos they have a limited choice, and they forget to mention that. For example, I preferred Korean AK-47 much more over Yugoslavian, Hungarian, Romanian or Russian (all in 7,62). You may say "but everybody knows that YU is the best of them all". Well, yes, on paper. In reality, Korean batch was in a MUCH better condition then other examples, which were heavily overused and badly under-maintained. So, maybe the key to interpret opinions does not lie in a chart that covers whole of the envelope, but rather just a small portion of it, up to 15-20 km?
  2. Mine Fuhrer, I can walk!
  3. Yeah, that is a great example of real problems
  4. Many of us have experienced something VERY opposite. It is easy to blame individual users if there is a network problem, but why I do not have such problems with other games? Why do I have to spend so much time trying to fix it, thats my point. It should be playable out of the box. Not OT, cos topic like this are OT for much bigger problems. Developers invested so much time to create and introduce Su-25, then Su-25T and later Ka-50, yet their environments are nothing but salt figures and mirages. Su-25T has AFM, yet it is used to fight against cardboard boxes and road trains. And still, only thing that I hear is "it is SO complicated to simulate radar and radar guided missiles". Is it more complicated then fixing pathfinding? Or damage models for ships? I ask this honestly, not rhetorically.
  5. You are all fighting over small differences related to 2 missiles and 2 airplanes, and there are many more problems not solved, not announced to be solved, or announced as not to be solved. Besides, there are claims from all sides that he is handling correct data. Crap! You need real life combat experience, screw all practices and friendly maneuvers. Lets imagine that FC112 is 100% realistic. Who cares? Who cares when it crashes or freezes during every 5th play, and there is horrible lagging when I join server with more then 6 players, AI is more stupid then fish (but with beautiful 3D models!) (and who cares about realism if it looks nice, no?), and there are endless amounts of aircraft and missiles (which is THE most unrealistic aspect of this sim!). There are only 3 things that I care on the subject of SU-27 vs F-15 is: - Is it going to be stable and without lagging on a server with more then 20 players on each side? Or will I have to switch to IL-2 when I want to feel how it is like to play with 50 people? - Can I configure my game with a few clicks only, or will I have to spend endless months trying to get lucky with best hardware/software settings? - Will I have to use additional programs to configure server, evaluate data, tweak graphics, and so on, or is that going to be a built-in feature?
  6. AI apparently does not fire upon aircraft on the ground, at least if they are not designated as targets in mission editor. No triggers whatsoever in FC112. Triggers promised in FC2, which is a logical expectation if I understood developers descriptions regarding similarities between FC2 and DCS. Suggestion - wait for FC2, and practice flying on FC112. There will not be any significant changes in flight/combat models, or at least nothing that will not be easy to pick up on quickly, especially in a2g.
  7. You, over there! No more LUA export for you!
  8. Not a good way to deal with criticism. But, there is nothing new from an old member...
  9. You see! You see! All those problems with F-15 - I knew it! Whats the point in bothering with F-15 if its possible to create a level of realism that is equal to that of Tie-fighter? Thats why I advocate for MiG-21-23-27 and Su-15-17 in FC. Sooooo simple radar and missiles and flying and you can find kilonumber of pilots and engineers willing to talk about those :) Cold War was much more fun  Besides, the most important thing of them all is not modeled at all - AVAILABILITY ! There are no meanings to simulate available quantities of aircraft and ammunition. No matter how hard you try in (online) mission building, all you get is "day one, hour one". You never see a message "sorry, all F-15/Su-27 were expended, would you like to try and fight with F-5/MiG-21?", or "Sorry, your wingmen were dumb arses that wasted all AMRAAM/R-77, you will have to use 40 yr old missiles", or - even sweeter - "Sorry, no more TV guided missiles here, please fly to a secondary base or use iron bombs" :D
  10. I second that :D And I raise for a network code that does NOT send all data that I do not need, like truck hitting a speed bump more then 500 km away. (I will not try to propose for a dedicated, remotely operated server. Just in case there are some triggerhappy zealots, like those snobs that gave me negative rep cos I dared to suggest something of my own.) I play only online, never bothered much with campaigns, and if damage models and AI (pathfinding and radar activation) will not be fixed, whats the purpose of delay? Porting FC to DCS environment is good enough for me. Will bring greater modability, at least from what I can see in DCS section of forum. I just hope noone will decide to do anything like "Oh my God! Sergey, you forgot to place 3D screws on license plates on BTR-80! And they have codes from Turkmenistan, not from Kazahstan! Delay! Delay!" Who cares about such details? I plan to either buzz next to them at 350-500 km/h or to blow them up :D
  11. - Yo, dude! Who are you? - Effsee. - One or two? - Two. - TWO?!?! Get the hell out of here and hit the market! - But, but, but... - Don't you "but" to me! Install yourself! NOW!!! - But, but, but... - And don't you give me no more of those wicked, seductive screenshots! All I wanna see is a desktop shortcut for MP! - But, but, but... - I'm warning you! - But, but... - I mean it! - But... - DUDE! - But... Its too early!
  12. No campaign as such, only missions. No respawn or resupply for AI. (AI has no fingers to push SHIFT+ENTER.) Briefing represents initial conditions only, does not show a mission progress. You have to enter the mission and the exit, and you will see the current debriefing screen.
  13. You can always buy cheapo operahouse binocular to glare on monitor - how is that for realistic :D or this, and then you fix secondary trackIR on it, so when you move a handle, pic on the monitor will follow: or this, trackIR ready:
  14. It would be killer if there is a message: "Playerx has tried to printscreen and he/she failed. Muuuhahahahahaaaa!" :D As about fresh FC2 printscreen, I would like to see one of a webshop, where there is a button "BUY NOW" next to FC2 pic
  15. ... and they lived happily ever after :)
  16. Oh, let me tell you a story about 32-bit... Once upon a time there was a kingdom where docile farmers lived. They were ruled by old king who had only one child, a blond princess full of life. People loved her, because she lover her father, was kind to older, playful with children and generous with those that lost all in market crash. She wanted to upgrade the kingdom to 64-bit, but the old king came from a long line of royalties that did not need fans to cool them down, in fact, they used only passive brass coolers on their crowns. It was a night, and the rain was about to settle, together with all the people that it helped to lull into a deserved sleep after hard working autumn day. Old king was sitting next to a big window from where he used to watch her daughter play when she was a child. Oh, it feels like it was only a yesterday. Now she was crossing the yard, not caring that her dress is falling into brownish puddles that were receiving their last drops, cos she heard her favorite GPU being restless without any apparent reason. Just as she was about to open the cover on big tower, with her USB vacuum cleaner in her hand, Moon came out of the clouds, and reflected its face in the many puddles that were surrounding her. She turned toward the Moon with smile her eyes closed, as she was facing the Sun and trying to soak its warmth, but the bright glare from the calm guardian was abruptly cut. On the big tower, there was a dragon! The legend was true! It was the the Effsee Too! He was just as in her nightmares, only more terrifying, because he was not moving at all, with only puffs of hot air coming from his nose thrills, tearing the cold air apart, while his wings moved very slowly, making a noise like when you tear a cellophane wrap apart. And the only thing she could see was his activation number. She knew that only 64-bit potion can save her castle from burning up, and she knew where to find one... To be continued early in 2010...
  17. Already answered. Its in the quote that you've made :) At this moment, I have no reason to buy anything up until what I'm interested into. There are only promises and guarantees of delays. Considering the time taken to develop each module, simply, I will trully be too old for this by the time I get any return for my investment :( And, as I said time and time again, I've already invested into FC/DCS more them most of the forum members here. Yesterday, I've paid 120 USD for domain/server hosting devoted to FC/DCS support and advertising, on top of all previous investments, TeamSpeak, giving away FC and DCS as gifts (which I have paid for!), workhours invested... Forget assuming, less alone calling me cheap  I can live with less visual quality and without button covers, if the AI were any smarter and if damage models were properly modeled. It is a laugh when you sink Kuznecov with Vihors only, and when anti-radiation missile hits into chassis/waterline only. rotfl! Sorry, I cannot afford that. I've already invested in other fields. Money spent. Read above. BTW, market value for localization like DCS:BS is around 1000 EUR. Will YOU invest 1000 EUR into ED?
  18. OK, I'm not military. I'm commercial. Where is it advertised "Welcome to forum where we sell byproducts of another work". Is that what you are saying? If so, then place such definition in forum/website banner, and I will not have any requests at all. Nor will my support be needed or asked for. As I'm not military ;) Their work in this field will be SIMPLIFIED. There will be no need to address each lang patching separately. Take a look at any Linux localization - programs are developing regardless of translation project, and those langs that satisfy certain criteria are included in official releases, without having any impact on the program itself or developer. Apart from occasional nags form translator "Please, make this localizable" :) There is nothing simpler to do then - to do NOTHING at all :) No release will have to be delayed, and you can always shoot the pianist ;) Problem is known (my sig), and is ignored by devs. In fact, locale implementation is getting harder and harder with each DCS:BS patch, like someone is making intentional effort to prevent additional localizations :( Or if someone is trying NOT to make this simulation to become a commercial product, but to keep it inside "military borders"? Odd, but this never occurred to me until your comment! Wags was MORE then helpful in moral support, but this is not enough :(
  19. Ah... Ehm... Uh... I bought Ka-50 under impression that it will be needed for later and interesting modules. I would be grateful for (omg, here comes my list again) MiG-21, 23, 25, 27, Su-15, 17 or Mi-24, 28 or any European aircraft. When will they be available? I'm sure ED will be pleased if I buy all modules, but I'm not pleased with the choice of modules. Why should I support that? If I could only add a working localization folder, instead of overwriting existing localization(s), and even that is not working in full any more :( C'mon GG, if you say that ED needs my support, I could do more good with WORKING localization, instead of embarrassing myself constantly cos it is not working or is crashing the game. Whats the joke with 4 lang editions that need individual patched (that need additional and individual hotfixes), instead of making one international edition with all langs that are fully translated and blessed by ED? Like in Linux localizations? If FC2 is going to have several langs like DCS, and there will be no support to add new lang seamlessly, I will have to feel that my yesterdays payment (of not a small amount!) for hosting of a website devoted to FC/DCS support, is a waste of money.
  20. Something that does not produce any lift at all?
  21. Pardon me, I have to ask for clarification on something from few pages back.... I know EtherealN is moderator, but I have to ask where is confirmation that A-10 and Ka-50 are standalone, meaning "you do NOT need to buy, install, or activate DCS:BS to install and play DCS:A-10, both offline and online"? Where did this came from? And, is this going to be practise with future modules?
  22. No, JAFO over ATC for NDB APP in VMC. I just hope that FC2 will come out pretty soon. I do not want my child to be mocked up in school because her old man is playing 32-bit game :helpsmilie:
  23. Better then DCS: PAK-40 :D But there is nothing that can worm my heart like a cold war bird :D And --- Wow, this one is going to be a tight run: about the same amount of pics and videos from PAK2 and FC-FA, or other way around... All this exciting is making me make nonsense making.
  24. Who cares! Gimme FC2! Before PAK-FA :D
  25. A-10C as standalone? Where did this came from? Not that I'm interested into A-10, but interesting trivia. BTW, where is that topic with list of possible/probable future releases? Can't find it right now....
