Just arrived yesterday. Got them from a guy that I used to buy model kits from on ebay :) Interesting to note is that these packagings are marked "to be sold in Ukraine", they are in DVD boxes, but there is no manual, just some feedback flyer from 1C. Quality of the box is horrid, DVD is light as a feather, but discs work just fine and thats what it counts :D Btw, 4 pcs are for my squaddies and more on the way, but do not ask me to give you the contact of that seller as he did this as a personal favor to me, no profit for him at all, and he is not interested into making further deals like this (to be sold in Ukraine). But, you may try to look for sellers and nagg them. About 25 USD per DVD, including postage, paypal.

Great to hear from you d0ppler :) Well, most of the people in contact with aeronautics prefer English, but there is plenty of room for "mother tongue" :D Don't foget that we found out how to localize complete GUI (dicsussed on above mentioned forum, not here), and there is a a full manual to translate. Don't worry about the lack of time. Just showing up your interest could help you to get together with your countrymen, and teamwork is most motivating :)

We will post info about results only here, and individual expansion language packs will be released on websites accoring to translator/team wishes. Hmh, I'm not sure as I was handed only MO files that, after converting back and forth, I send back for few snapshots. No sense int doing anything else without DCS. I have no clue about font definitions, apart that there are "about 50 fonts" (?!?). But, what did help was when I instructed him to change font for non-unicode characters in Regional Settings. This also works with some other apps, and strangely it had to be changed for Russian FC, or I would not be able to start it. In case of my localization of FC, I used both availabe options: changing the font configuration into Windows font, and editing TGA file. I've described the result here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=18912 I was "lucky" as I was able to insert all CRO specific characters over few existing and regular Russian chars. TGA's had empty placeholders, but I was not that good with programming as to tweak FC into reading new slots.

"Remotely controlled testing" was somewhat clumbsy as my coleague had to change some regional settings, offten breaking the connection in the course (he is also not to profficient with PCs), but it is possible to display ŠĐČĆŽ in utf-8. It looks like about everything will be possible to localize, maybe even the ABRIS? Hard to say and hate the guessing games. I'm waiting for my DCS to arrive so I could check all that by myself. Already bought 2 kilos of finest coffee :D

In fact, I know that as I was able to talk over Skype with some owner from Ukraine :) He sent me those files and I've sent him back test files, and they work fine. However, I was not all that keen to talk about that before as I was not sure about the legal side of that procedure, and with all that fuss following RU edition, and on top of everythin being called for "farting my mind" - I'm not sure if I should write anything at all. If I do not get banned on account of other topics, then I will get spat :( But, I will try to keep this one up to date with progress. Thnx for support, will contact other via PM.

OK, Wags is online and within minutes he confirmed me that we can localize the GUI, althought the code is embeded in game and they cannot provide us with tools. Thanks Wags, I can briefe again! As for tools and methods, we will dig out something - thats why I started this topic.

If tweaking RU edition into ENG language is forbidden, does that mean that adding a new language or replacing an existing one will be illegal? 2. Does that apply to RU edition only, or ENG will be more open minded? Please, official replies only, no speculations.

I do not see people demanding for help on a product that does not belong here, on this forum. I see them asking for help, on a forum that is called "ED forums" - this is very logical course of action and no one can blame them for that. Who is blocking the flow of information and why? Only logical choice is that Russian publisher 1C is doing this, but this is not their forum. They have their own forum. Regardless of thier asking, I think that thier questions could truly improve this product, not only technically as a simulation, but also comercially. I'm trying to keep objective stand here, simply noting that it is strange that creators of the game deny help. I see no harm in discussing activation issues. Objectivelly, it looks like there are some problems with that, and open discussion will improve that part of the project. If any discussion is going to be forbidden, you will turn this forum into You're-so-beatiful-sucking-up billboard :( One final thing --- If tweaking RU edition into ENG language is forbidden, does that mean that any modding of this game will be illegal?! I'm trying, but I'm not the one that created the game... and all the issues related to it. I find it hard to understand why all support is reserved for Russian speaking members, despite the fact that there are other poeple capable of getting their own copy of DCS. Shouldn't they be rewarded, instead being punished by silence? So, Koriel has a problem with a Russian version. He is entitled to some kind of efficient support. If English section is to provide support fo ronly western release, and Russian section only for Russian release of DCS, implying that those are "different games", then there should be two separated forums. This is very confusing and frustrating that in one part of the forum yu can discuss whatever you like, and on another you are not allowed. Is this nationally biased attitude? If we cannot benefit from Russian sources, why should they have any benefit from English section? Not fair, not fair...

Those Russian sneaky weasels... Using their funny characters, speaking their funny language... Sometimes I think they invented all that just to keep their secrets only to themselves! If they used latin, cold war would last for only 10 years. Just like those Hungarians - they made up some sort of language just to hide the secrets of making good salame! I bet they speak some other normal language when I turn my back, and so are Russians using latin in hiding.... Grrrr... Seriously, why allow Russkies to access ENG part of the forum? We want secrets of our own! I'm among those that are awaiting for announced earlier release of ENG manuals. There is no reason why they should not be released, because you will need them for demo. Unless there will be NO demo at all :( As for translating into languages other then those that will be officially release with DCS, check out this thread: DCS localization effort

Very efficient way to block users and slow down the game. Myself, I have to intention to spend all that time doing click-clack-click-clack-click-clack-click-clack-click-clack-click-clack-click-clack instead of flying. There is more then enough click-clack-click-clack-click-clack to be done during the flight.
