If Russians can pay half the price on account having half the Western average income, then the same approach should be used in other countries. Why is it that the same pricing is applied to whole World? If Westeners can (and would) afford 100 USD, let them pay. To me, and to my average income in relation to EU, 25 USD is fair price. Although, the average is closer to Russian and the more preferable price of 10 USD.

50 USD !?? Twice as much as Russian download? If the difference covers those US/EU rating, can I have a discount, as those rating are not applied to my country?

If I was not to care, I would not bother to point out defficiencies. Why is it that each time some issue come under discussion that those who brought it out are crucified? As far I know, LUA and programming is not religion, DCS is not a church, and therefore there are no priests. That means that thre are no "blessed" individuals and ther are no those "that need to be converted". It is very weird to see that only worshipers are welcomed, and those that question true age and authors of the Bible are dismissed with "yes, we know, but it is irrelevant, it is the faith and the Word that counts." I want to spread His Word, but not if critics are subjected to Inquisition. Many things were mentioned beforehand, but in most cases any discussion on any topic either strayed away or was promptly cut with "you have to wait for new XYZ". Now, we have the option to discuss some things openly, as we are no beta testers with their obligations. Sorry to say, but we are paying customers, and we have the right to ask for more chocolate on donuts and to discuss it quality. Yes, the baker said that the chocolate will only be smeared over the top of the donut, but I like this bakery and I have to say that bakery next door dunks thier donuts in Swiss chocolate in full and for a long time. Yes, their donuts are smaller, but I love chocolate. Enough of hyperbolae... It is very simple - if we are allowed to openly discuss (and occasionally remind) about some issues, it could help programmers/developers/producers to steer this project into commercially sensible path. And, in a path that will make this simulation well balanced when simulating certain objects or behaviors. Trees need to be functional, Ai needs to be fixed, there is no need to overmodel invisible and unusable things, this is still the game that need gameplay, and the King is naked. I'll take a long break from discussions. Thanks and best regards to all.

Yes, I have thought about that. But I will not claim anything until I will be able to produce it. I hope you are NOT sarcastic.

Ehm... There is no real infantry in DCS, just some crash test dummies with painted beards. There are no Toyota pick-ups with Ayrton Senna driving logic. There is no guerilla whatsoever, hiking over the mountains, shooting at you with AK, DŠK or Igla. Ther is no AI behaviour for "dug in", "hide in a cave" or "send SMS to Adbulah on next hilltop and ask him for spare Igla battery or a car charger". As a matter of fact, there is very little of "I" in "AI". Any example and tactics related to anti-guerilla usage of helicopter is completely irrelevant to DCS. Ka-50 was primarly used in Chechnya as a point-strike weapon, not in open conflict. Unlike Mi-17 and Mi-24. But, both details are also irrelevant, as Ka-50 was too dear to risc it in open conflict, and Mi-17 and 24 are not avaialbe in DCS. Therefore, one has to adapt tactics around existing threats and their capabilities (which are moddeled for classic, frontal military conflict). But, non-existent trees narrow all options down, and it is very unrealistic not to have real trees with realistic helicopter. Situation is not balanced. Suggestions like hiding behind buildings is poor. Only small percentage of the map is covered with cities. Unless ther will be a RTS mod where you will be able to make some villagers that will build tall, tall building. Also, usual flight plan of flying high with half of the fuel is no solution for a map that has big regions bellow 1000 m ASL. If thats the key, than the map should cover Caucasus only, no Black Sea at all. Or one should wait for that horribly boring map of Nellis. And, half a payload is boring as well. Key factor that is missing in DCS are surveilance platforms, airborne or ground. There is no Ka-31, correct? And it was a must for Ka-50 in Chechnya. Can AI in BRDM communicate with me? Ka-50 can only be used if you are sneaky bastard, flying with other sneaky bastards. If trees are non-functional, then you are in the open. But, I guess that is colsely related to graphic engine that allows you to set up trees density? If you eliminate that, it will be easier to code functional trees.
-
I'm not happy to admit that I'm not happy with trees. They should be the key static element in helicopter tactics, but they are like smoke screen - FPS eater without any physical importance. I did expect more realistic and 3D trees, but... (shrug). I realy do not see the reasoning for HiDef vehicles which I cannot (and should not) see in great detail when flying, while IRL one could see birds nests and defoliate/shorten tree tops. The importance is even more obvious after few hours in ArmA. There, vehicles are of less detail, but trees are "real" and you cannot trash all of them with UAZ. In many ways I've expected more :(

ok, enough of that admiration, what about bad things, stupid AI?
Renato71 replied to concrete's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well, its like those cars that have parts from various factories, and they are assembled it under third brand. That brand cannot say "We put it together quite nicely, everybody loves the seats we bought, and it is not our fault that engine is from our old Wartburg. Just put more air refresheners and you will not sense the fish oil any more. Admire the steering wheel and do not look under the bonnet." :D No man - I'm engine lover. AI has to be improved radically or this will be like Su-25T in FC, a variation to a dart game, instead of a boxing match. Just look at that screenie by CAT_101st - from a distance the same thing as in LO/FC. Setting up a nice path for vehicles is in about 75% of cases resposible for me giving up on finishing some big mission. Pathfinding of alternative routes (other bridges, inclines, slopes, fords, being attacked...) will be the most exciting improvement. Unless someone can make AI that will hide trucks behind building or in garages and tunnels - that will top every addition :D -

Renato71 replied to concrete's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yup, that too! There should be more limitations to AI's "superman vision" :D That reminded me of that silly bug in LO where Vulcan and Shilka have search radars. As for DCS, I think that cannons/guns on vehicles are still too precise. All of them have optical sights only, yet they are all able to shoot with same precision and leading. In FC, LAV-25 and Bradley were more deadly then Vulcan. AI for the aircraft (helo, at least) is smarter then before. Taking out SAM/AAA according to their threat, but sometimes making too many runs, like they are making one run per one target. Also, AI choppers are droping flares when shot at by ATGM from vehicles - which means that AI chopper "cannot determine the type of missile". That is very neat  -

Renato71 replied to concrete's topic in Bugs and Problems
Back to the topic.... Smarter AI for vehicles is a must for this simulation. Otherwise it is irrelevant if you are shooting trucks, tanks, houses or trees. And, kinda goes along the philosophy - "If something aint realistic, it will not be in the DCS". With AI like this, no matter how hard you set up the missions, it will still look like "a practice for a real thing" - where opponents will have some brains. It would be VERY authentic for Igla guys to jump into Land Rover and run away when they expend their loadout. Among being able to drive around in vehicle, and stop to dismount and discharge. The same AI as in LO is the most disappointing thing, and it clashes harshly and painfully with the level of detail invested into Ka-50. I rather have smart AI vehicles, then highly detailed 3D rivets, handholds, grills… I had no time to examine damage models, so I would like to ask if anything is doing in regard to damage boxes, damage thresholds and progressive damages? For example, in the near future, will it be possible to destroy tires on wheeled AFV or trucks on tanks, make them immobile, but still able to fire back? I rather have this kind of authenticity as well, then highly detailed 3D rivets, handholds, grills… Regarding damage thresholds, this is non-existent in LO and you are able to sink Kuznecov with Vikhors or cluster bombs. All that is needed is to "pump" enough led into it and the total is calculated. One more thing that I had no time to test, but I'm very much interested into - true effects of warheads in respect to their purpose. Again, in LO, you can destroy bunkers and similar targets with any type of weapon. All you need is to deliver 250 or 500 kg of TOTAL WEIGHT. It does not matter if you drop FAB, PTAB, ODAB, KMGU or PLAB. And not only that each of these have different types of warheads (explosives), but they also have different amounts of explosives. FAB-500 has more TNT then runway busting bomb of the same caliber. All above with best intentions. The fact that something looks nicely is not the sole reason why I like this series. Its because of what is UNDER the skin. For looks, I'll always choose BF. -
Then "general" is better choice as "common" can easily be missunderstood as "plain", "common to all" or "regular". "General" goes better with the supposed meaing "overall", no?

"guerilla marketing" ? Those guys from Pepsi are pulling thier hair for not thinking of this sooner....
-
Incorrect - its about saving BIG money. If you think it is not that big, I will give you my home address so you could send me TIR4pro as a gift. And who is support me in this scheme of yours?? Its not my fault that NP put such a huge price tag on their product, thus provoking "much cheaper solutions" (or whatever you wish to call it). If ED is able to keep thier price so low (25 USD for download RU edition), and I bet they put MUCH MUCH more programming effort into DCS then NP into TIR, there is no reason why users of a sim worth 25 USD and with zillion files should be "blackmailed" by a tiny app. It's like paying 1000 USD for some Windows XP/Vista tweak. My life will not end without it. Anyway, stop moaning and look at the brighter side - if there was no FT, NP developers would have no reason to improve TIR. Existence of FT forces NP to improve their product. Same goes with any other product, from sneakers to PC hardware. This reminds me of those comparisons with expensive and cheap watches. You buy one for 150 USD, and I buy another for 5, but I have to spend extra 5 to buy wrist strap and maybe another 5 to pay someone else to put that together. So, mine is a cheap copy of yours, but it shows the time correctly. For 15 USD. And, I'm not F1 driver or SEAL or SAS member, so I do not care about precision upt to 1/100.000 ms, 100 m depth or resistance to RPG.

FreeTrack, come to 20 USD, including camera. Why pay more for same?

Hi all, New centralized project on SourceForge is created: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dcsl10n/ More info and screenshots will follow shortly. We made some very fast progress with Croatian and Polish, here is one example in Croatian. Complete GUI is translated and is undergoing testing. Buttons can be resized and it will be done soon :) See first post for info on localization teams.
-
Also, it is a logical procedure - first you press RSHIFT, then R. If other way around something else would happen :)

Mainly for translators, here are Word versions. I've converted PDF to a Word files using Solid Converter PDF v4. Layout is excellent, but all bookmarks are missing, meaning you cannot click an item in the Content in order to jump to a corresponding article. Other apps that I've tried and that can preserve bookmarks - cannot preserve the layout and text properly. Flight manual - Word GUI manual - Word As it would be much easier to keep track, we should have HTML version. Currently, when I save with Word 2000 (do not have other version), HTML istelf is 20 MB, and pics are 70 MB. This is a product of extremely "dirty" HTML created by Word 2000, and is unacceptable for web. I ask kindly anyone with newer Word to convert above DOC files into HTML, or to created directly from PDFs. Or if onyone can suggest tested utility for html code cleaning. Also, HTML will have to be split into chapters and bookmarks will have to be re-inserted, to resemble this page: http://lockonhr.com/flightmanual/index.htm As for our progress, we are able to succefully replace Russian lang with others (still haven't discovered how to add a new lang to existing list), ZaltysZ is making excellent progress with TGA fonts that include various language-specific characters, Boberros is also doing fine with cockpit editing (translating) and various research. Dedicated project page on SourceForge will be opened soon :)

DCS: Black Shark English Key Command List and HOTAS assignments
Renato71 replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks for the effort, but the commands are already sorted, or not? Also see: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=542053&postcount=14 -
No problem registering. Thanks ED!

Are we going to get the english manual as promissed?
Renato71 replied to pagadi-zaiet's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
They may be trying to print it, so they could offer both download and hard copy in the same time? -
Thanks, but as I said: ... (about 18 EUR) which is the Ukrainian price, and there were no other types of packaging in that particular shop. So, the total END price per DVD includes several currency exhcanges (which are always unfavorable), paypal and other fees and - everybody forgets - the postage and packaging, which was higher as the DVD box was a bit heavier. If there were Jewel boxes, I would get 10-12 of those for the price of 8 DVD. It that store that they were bought - they were almost half the recommeded 1C price. To top this excellent price - - - I do not beleive that the Western edition (if it will be available in my local shops) (which I doubt) will be cheaper or even of equal price to the cost of purchasing Western edition and paying the P+P for it from any webshop. Our stores are notorious for high taxing - we call that "haratch" :D Example - I've ordered 50 IR-LED's from China, gratis resistors. Less then 0.25 USD per piece (including postage!), and in a local shop the cheapest IR-LED is 1.15 USD. Gratis paper bag. The size if cigarrete box. To those of you that more interested into "hard" DVD, I recommend searching the ebay for sellers from CIS, and start nagging them - it worked for me...
-
NP, kinda my fault not to mention the paper ;) Yup, looks totaly different - extremely cheap box, almost falling apart. In fact I just switched DVD into a proper box - armoured with anti-RPG mesh :D
