Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
emg replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
If you click "Visit the website" on the steam MiG-21 page, it links to the DCS homepage, so I don't think it matters that lns.com is down. -
Also check out their interview in the 476 podcast, when the host jokingly asks which is their next aircraft, one of the LN guys (I think Roland?) references this:

Your hosts are too busy blogging about 90's platformers to answer your support ticket... "Bäst i test" hahaha. -
Why the next addition should be the Dassault Mirage
emg replied to Pilum's topic in Heatblur Simulations
F-8, "last gunfighter". I know it was a relevant moniker back in the day, but when people are making documentaries nowadays, they should be aware of what other airforces have been doing. Israeli Mirage III and Nesher with twin 30mm had around 55 confirmed (reasonably) gun kills in 1967 alone, and added more in '73. Last was in '74. http://www.acig.info/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=198&Itemid=47 -
I just thought it'd be a little funny if they removed the SFM purchasing option for the mid-core pilots, in order to simplify the purchasing options for confused hardcore pilots... :)

What about people who are happy with an SFM+ASM plane, and want to pay less? I remember one of the posters from VEAO saying a real life Hawk pilot had flown the Hawk SFM, he was very impressed with its flight dynamics.

Why do you need to relate to a plane in DCS? Lots of people bought the DCS Ka-50, Mi-8, MiG-21, 15, Bf 109, FW 190, Hawk, without being from countries that operated them. -

Specifically, its pylons are very large and outward canted. They're very draggy: http://airshow-reviews.com/bourget/super_hornet_weapons.jpg People speculate that it needs these for weapons to safely separate from the aircraft. -

AIM-54/AWG-9 combo would be interesting to have, also very complex. There's some info in Mike Spick's F-14 book. Anti-bomber mode with lofted trajectory (launching at 13km -> climbing to 31km) and anti-fighter mode (flatter trajectory). Capable of 16G turns if its engine is still firing, but this means firing at shorter ranges. http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?5831-Simultaneous-attack-with-six-AIM-54As

Looking forward to pre-ordering this.

:D Also check out 6:35. "Red Flag in the Warsaw pact," Soviet Tu-16s practicing attack runs against defending East German and Polish MiG-21 units. 10:43, you will see around 200 An-12 heading back from Czechoslovakia during the 1968 invasion. 29:49: SR-71 heading east at 6 o'clock, 3rd ring out. Fast! -

This does not answer your questions, but it may be interesting to see this video captured at various Swedish ground radar stations in the 60's-80's. Go to 19:53, note the fixed circle net, see 5 o'clock at the 4th ring out. You'll see lots of chaff being dropped by An-12 ECM variants. At 20:12 you will see heavy jamming from some Tu-16 ECM variants. Scale: Kaliningrad visible at the lower edge of the picture. Riga bay in the right side of the picture. Finnish airspace marked at the upper right edge. Swedish mainland at the left edge. Gotland island in the center. -
There's a screenshot in the september newsletter in the updates forum.

May be of interest: Iraqi F1EQ with Kh-29L, probably using ATLIS pod for designation. http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?58673-Iraqi-MIG-23ML-with-Exocet&p=941310#post941310

Sea Eagle was designed to be used on aircraft without an air-to-sea radar (or not wishing to emit). It has an INS and the WSO can have the missile steer to a location where it starts to scan for stuff with its radar. The nav system can use waypoints and "pop up & scan, then pop down and do this or that depending on what it scanned" behavior. http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/Pages1_files/SeaEagle_Index.html And you can try to get close enough that the radar can lock on while still on the pylon. AFAIK some Iraqi MiG-23s were rigged to use Exocets this way in the Iraq-Iran war.

More 60's and 70's jets would be great for DCS. MiG-21 is soo lonely. I'd preorder an F1 for sure.

Fixed it, thanks. None in my case, my only mod is the Improved Towns & Villages pack.

Installing BF-109K4 onto the Steam Version of DCS:W
emg replied to IvanTehFennec's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Interesting, well I say good job to you since it makes people buy from the ED store and not Valve with their 40% cut. (Valve really need dev money for... Half Life 3, 2 years be sure!!) -
3rd party campaigns? Someone call Desastersoft!

Seems like a lot of work compared to using a regular ED install with the DCS updater? -
[Bf-109 K4] When it's going to be released in Steam?
emg replied to Llucmk's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I'm not accusing you of not supporting ED, that's why I said buying from the ED store gives more support :). I have used Steam since 2004, I know it's a good platform and it's my primary chat software. But remember we have only two combat flightsim studios who do propeller aircraft, and ED are only doing WWII because of someone else's failed kickstarter. This is a tiny genre with few customers, and the devs have very limited budgets as it is. -

emg replied to Llucmk's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Steam takes 30-40%(or more) of the profits. I prefer that those 40% should go to the hard working guys at ED and Leatherneck, VEAO, Belsimtek, Aviodev, Razbam, Coretex... Don't use steam, give more support to the devs. :)
