I believe it's just the scripted numbers you can add on the planes paint, they removed a few things untill DCS 2.0/edge comes out

Its an interceptor first, fighter second, but the closest comparison I've read about is an older model f16. You're basically right, but its size and thrust/weight ratio make it reasonable in a knife fight vs bigger newer fighters.

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
Hadwell replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
So I was flying a KA-50 on the 104th server, and this guy in an F-15 shoots me down with cannons, so i take up an F-86 and GAR-8's, and go fly cap over the TA.... so since the F-86 only has the mk-1 eyeball, i decide the best way to find the F-15 would be to follow an attack aircraft, sure enough, following an SU-25, i see him drop flares like mad, look up, and see the F-15 launch at him, so i engage him, shoot a GAR-8 at him, it misses, but he's slow, Im in close, so he just crashes into the ground. -
yeah they already know about the bug, apparently it's a problem on ED's side, and the guys at leatherneck have no idea how to fix it. can't remember where I heard that though. *grain of salt*

It could be he knows the scan rate of the radar, turns his plane, and locks the target before it has time to register on the display, I do that a lot.

you just have to wait till you have nearly 0 AOA on him with no G load, and hope he doesn't pull any high G turns after you launch, that's why, even though I know I can hit out further, I usually wait till I'm well within range... if the guy I'm shooting at has no idea I'm there, or is doing a piss poor job of evasive manoeuvres, then I go for the long range shots they don't always hit... the higher you go (to a point) the longer the range, I might be 100m too low, or he might have too much energy, and they just barely miss, just so many variables... In general, best rule is to ignore your radar and what range it says, and just wait till you're so close there's no doubt in your mind of the missile ever missing... but since it's a sim, and unlike real life, launching a missile costs a whole lot of nothing, if a missile misses just get a bit closer and fire another :P

You need a stick and throttle, they said...

yeah, i agree... I was just giving the two extremes, there's everywhere in between too... I definitely don't recommend spending hundreds of dollars on sticks and head trackers etc. if you're casual enough that a mouse and keyboard are good enough... Flight simming is a hobby for me, been since I first played the original red baron on a 100MHz pentium, so it's only natural for me to get better (though I can't afford the best) gear. -

A little collage thing i mashed together in about 5 minutes so i had a background thing for my youtube channel... -
I haven't got many kills past 11KM with any missiles. R-55/RS-2US are the same missile, just IR/SAR, I have got kills at 8~ KM with both, I only recommend taking them if you want to try for a kill with basically the worst missiles the mig-21 can carry manoeuvrability wise... R3R and R3S are the same missile, just IR/SAR, the R3R i've managed to pull a kill off head on at 13KM, from the rear or underneath, 10km~, R3S is more limited by its tracker than its range... the R-13M1 has been the most versatile missile for me, I get most of my kills with it, tracker will pick something up at 12KM, I've gotten kills from directly behind at 11KM, on average I fire at 8KM with them, they turn great, basically an R3S with a better tracker, and better turning. the R-60M's are really good missiles, normally I take 4 R-60Ms, If I know I'm in range, I don't waste my R-13M1s (can only be carried on inner pylons), R-60Ms have really good manoeuvrability, and pretty much always hit in close, yeah, just a good missile. 4KM~ max 8, if you get a really nice shot on someone.

It's not a question of if it can be done or not, its a question of... if you have a guy that's used to having a full hotas and trackIR and all the benefits that come with it, and put him up against a guy stuck with a keyboard and mouse, who's gonna win the fight more often? and who would be more successful at ground attack(gets more done in less time)? in the sense that it's possible to do anything with a mouse you can with a stick (probably), yeah you can use a mouse... in the sense that it's really practical in any sense of the word.... not so much... especially if you're always against people (as in humans, not AI) that have proper controls. -
yeah but not to the level as in videos of the real hud, where it does that starburst thing

Easy to fly, easy to takeOFF, damn hard to land.
Hadwell replied to DaveRindner's topic in MiG-21Bis
make sure you only have 600L or less fuel, flare at 300-320, touch the rear tires at 280-300 need to start pulling back on the stick right before the rear wheels touch to gently touch the nose wheel on the ground right directly after the rear wheels. also, don't cut throttle to idle till all 3 wheels are on the ground -
Yeah the switch to actually turn on the power to the IFF system, on the far right panel, there's no hotkey.

Yeah, you know how I feel about noob-120 spamraams, read my SIG lol

What is your video recording setup?
Hadwell replied to Mike Busutil's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Shadowplay video is crappy quality compared to fraps.... I record using fraps codec, then re-encode with virtual dub or sony vegas... if you have a few TB of storage, it doesn't matter the size of the original recording, when I'm done editing, I usually use between 7000 and 10000 kbit for the re-encode and end up with about 90mb a minute, my internet connection is 100mbit down/ 12mbit up, so that's a reasonable file size to upload to youtube. -
The problem is... when you have 20 different manuals all with different "do this, but not that" type rules in them and recollections from real pilots that differ slightly from one another... how do you know, or choose what sources are fact and what are fiction? So far, the mig-21 in DCS feels pretty damn good to fly, compared to anything else capable of going up against the FC3 planes it's hands down the most realistic, that makes it sim enough for me(for now), though it still needs some fixes.

Loadout: 2xR13M1 4xR60M 1x800L mixed rounds on the cannon. sparky take off, drag my tail...from first contact to last kill: I pick up 3 contacts on my radar, a pair and a single, I kill the single, and escape the pairs little trap. I run into another, he decides he'd rather crash than be killed by me, Then turn towards something my RWR picked up and see some missiles flying at me, so I duck behind a hill. when I look over, I see the F-15 that launched those missile trying to come in close, and you can see what happens... after that, someone gets a radar lock on me, with one R-60M left and almost no bullets, I say to myself "screw this" and RTB... if you notice two R-60ms on my pylons near the end of the video, its a bug, only one is left. just the last fight
-
Go to the available loadouts pages in that manual (page 29), it says R-13's are usable on all 4 pylons, but in the game, only the inner two... I read the whole thing, DAMN a lot of reading, but I learned a TON!

He's saying they should just link our DCS accounts directly to the game, we log into the game, it looks up our licence info, and ergomagically unlocks everything, no fuss...
-
yeah, I totally understand and respect the reasoning behind their DRM system. If you own the game legitimately, it's not so hard to just copy and paste your key into the box...
