yeah the only time i'd climb to catch a target is if they didn't know i was there, i knew i could catch them, and/or I knew where at least one friendly was... totally different styles of flying, each with their own rules :P but i mean... the F-15s radar has a 200km range, and the mig-21 has a 30km radar range, thats without awacs... With awacs, the f-15s and the mig-21s effective radar range is 300km. doesn't give anyone an advantage, but it does take away one of the disadvantages of the mig-21. and you can't say it's low(no pun intended :D), i mean... anyone that shoots down a mig-21, bvr, knowing full well their plane is far superior, and still says the way I just barely manage to survive combat in the mig-21 is bad, is a hypocrite...
-
it gets rid of a lot of the disadvantages the mig-21 has when it comes to finding targets, doesn't help as much for the modern planes, lets say it evens the playing field a bit more, key is "bit more"
-
another way to put it is... if you see a big guy whose fist probably weighs as much as you, you have to fight him to get past him, do you try to fight him face to face, bare handed? noooo you probably run.... and find a way to beat him without getting your teeth bashed in... do the same with the mig-21... someone's constantly pinging you and locking you, run, someone doesn't see you or is ignoring you, keep going....
-
umm don't lawnmowers only cut things beneath them? :P and actually has a lot to do with not having awacs too, since the mig-21 is pretty well radio controlled.
-
basically surprise is the key, yeah. the mig-21 is inferior as a hunk of metal compared to an F-15, but there are situations that allow for the mig-21 to win, and they have to do with brains, finding out where and when to attack, when to run... and using every advantage you have, and not allowing them to use theirs.

either that, or you can just learn it by flying past bullseye, end result is the same, just saves you the trial and error by switching teams and checking, there are only so many missions on the 104th server, eventually no matter how shitty you are at the game you'd get it memorized.] and no matter how much you might think its cynical, people DO go the same way every single time, i think my 20 or so mig-21 youtube videos I recorded on the 104th prove that. and another one, but not against modern fighters, just figured i'd post it with this reply here
-
Well all you gotta do is switch to their team and find out where their ground targets and airfields are and fly back and forth between them and your airfield... On the 104th server anyway

The first one, I basically saw him on my RWR, so I dove down below a mountain, flew around it, then crested over it, he doesn't even lock me,not sure if he was trying for a passive kill. For the second one, I basically flew right at him, launched a missile, and supported it till it hit, then dove like a mad man, he does get a missile off, but it misses me. Third one, I saw a guy on my radar but couldn't lock him and saw him with the mk.1 eyeball for just a couple seconds, totally lost sight of him all together, but I already knew what direction he was going, so I was like well I can just sweep the horizon with my pipper and my IR missile will pick him up, and yep.

why would they make a crop duster?
-
the SU-25T is a really useful plane, it was a good choice to make it free, totally capable, and easy to set up, learn, and actually use in combat missions, good to get peoples toungs wet for more :D

there will be proper templates released after 2.0....

another thing is the ranging data shows when you're in A2A mode with R-3Rs selected, and have a lock on an air target... you can see the ASP needle go down. If you set it to A2G mode, and switch the hud to gun mode, does the sight still lead properly for air targets? I've only ever used the fixed net or a fixed range, so... I realize LN is working to fix it to how it should be, but there might be a work around, to use it as it currently is...

MiG-21bis and UM grass field operation 1992
Hadwell replied to Allesmor Obranna's topic in Heatblur Simulations
yeah the reason the mig-21 can't work on grass is probly the same reason the FC3 planes can't... more a limitation of DCSs current engine, than the plane. -
Pretty sure that doesn't include online play, usually there's some clause about online play not being rated by any ESRB

better to climb then cruise or cruise low?
Hadwell replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in MiG-21Bis
with or without having to worry about radar, and getting shot down? flying low and using anything you can to keep the enemy from picking you up on radar is far more important than a few KM here and there... if all you're doing is ferrying the plane, then yeah sure, climbing is better.... and afterburner is probably better cause you go more distance in less time, that includes the climb to altitude, except you won't have as long on station if you have to slow down and circle an area before you go to land, because it's easier to lose energy than get it back. so if you have to loiter on bulls eye, or on a TA, then not using afterburner is better, if you're trying to catch a target at 10.000+ meters, awacs, or a tanker, etc... and you already know where it is, then afterburner is better. Try it on the VA server, if you climb correctly, you can get to mach 2 with the center tank just about empty, fly clear across the map in record times... -
Yeah I don't get many views compared to some of the other youtubers, not as interesting when it's just watching someone play with no commentary or anything. I enjoy uploading videos regardless, and I'm glad their helpful and/or entertaining to those that do watch them.

I took two R-3R and two R-13M1, center 800L, I didn't use one of my R-13M1s, landed with it.
-
un-map keys on your keyboard and set them up as rotary positions... like you probably dont need keys for aileron, elevator, or rudder, so you can use them for something else.
-
so here i fire a R-3R at 12KM-ish, it hits no problem, cause it's head-on (as far as i can tell).

Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
Hadwell replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I don't think it's a question of how they were used in real life, but more of a question of what their actually capable of doing, regardless of design intent. having the correct theater or proper carrier landing capability in DCS has nothing to do with what the plane can or can't do. wouldn't be flying the mig-21 online much if that were the case. -
Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
Hadwell replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I hope its an F-14A, i want an early version, so that it's not too OP against the mig-21, i'll be a back seat driver RIO if anyone wants to fly front seat :D -
in a sane world, the outer tanks would dry up first, cause the combined weight and drag of them is more than the center tank, then the center tank and its drag, and only then it start working on the internal tanks. as for fuel pumps... in DCS fortunately planes are one time use... so if the pumps want to die, let them, it will be awesome the day they allow re-use of old airframes, rather than respawning in a brand new never flown before plane.
