What's with P-51 versus Fw 190 in Dogfights ?
Hadwell replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
yes, except that the spitfire in general had a newer design. its development started long after the 109's and by the time the K models came around, the 109 was far past its prime. arguably the 109 was obsolete by 1942, with the G2 model being the peak of its prime, the G6 being roughly being the point where it was equal with allied fighters, and G10+ couldn't quite keep up with the allied technology anymore, upgrading the engine did help, but the airframe itself was just too limited. -
i don't really expect anyone to have that long of a glide, I've been flying the 109 in various sims for 14 years now, was in a squad in il2fb JZG23 for a few years, they flew the 109 exclusively, and even had a real 109 pilot to teach us dead stick 3-point landings and such that being said, i use an extremely long glide from before i get to the runway with my wheels an inch off the ground so all i have to do is wait till I'm over the runway and pull back on my stick a tiny bit, and my plane just lightly touches... no fuss, no cuss... and about the prop pitch, well its kinda important, but with the runway as long as it is, and as tiny as the 109 is, if it really makes it that much harder for you not adjusting the pitch, go ahead, but i don't bother...

P-51 should be faster than the 109, dive better, and have better elevator controls at top speed don't ever try to fight a 109, get yourself an advantage or run, or both. the P-51 is an energy fighter, but since there are so few ww2 era planes in DCS, people have been using it like a spitfire, now that the 109 is here, people are going to have to learn how to do vertical split S's and immelmans.
-
how the heck would you pull 8G's in a plane that's elevators basically lock up completely above 650kph? (the 109)
-
lock the tail wheel to go streight, unlock it to turn. learn that the brakes aren't just on/off, they need to be feathered.
-
yeah the trim is messed, there's no way neutral trim should force you to push forwards so much on the stick on takeoff, you should be able to trim it to nose itself into the ground on takeoff if you want, it shouldn't want to always do a backflip on takeoff.../

you put it like this [YOUTUBE"]H1JThbIWASw[/YOUTUBE as an example
-
my attempt, turn annotations on if their off.
-
ok i've added annotations to it:
-
yeah, i make it a point to make my videos around 5-10 minutes long, i find 3 minutes to be the average duration people watch my videos, so even that is pushing it... I'll try annotating the one landing video, see how it goes.
-
if you start rolling to the right, feather the right brake to stop the roll, then feather the left brake to stop the right turn. you end up constantly feathering both brakes almost randomly till you come to a stop...
-
yeah the trim is messed up, full nose trim still the plain is tail heavy

[FIXED] flaregun toggle function

yeah the flare gun damnit covers up the prop pitch indicator... at least have it stowable, it was in real life. -

1.2.12 -- radar modeling - fighters vs helos
Hadwell replied to SDsc0rch's topic in General Questions
you don't balance sims, their meant to emulate real life, real life isn't balanced, what is better is better... you balance the scenario, you use the mission editor and choose what weapons the players have available to them, and balance it that way. -

All it will do is make the aim120 less of a noob weapon, whenever you add something better its always the noob weapon, the aim120 takes the least amount of skill of any missile to use right now, take it out and it makes the r27er the noob weapon, etc... -
For good reason, sims are not supposed to be some artists rendition, supposed to try to make it as close to the real thing as possible, since a lot of these planes you can't just grab a real one and test it to your hearts content till you get the physics right, at least you can get the visuals right.

the new ones are closer:

well you don't need the pod for flares, the mig-21 doesn't hold chaff, though i think the jammer has chaff on it, again, the button on the overhead panel, big black one hard to miss, only one with a cover over it on the whole panel... if you don't have the ecm pod, then you need to equip them they go in the same place as the RATO pods, can only take one or the other... they work exactly the same as the RATO pods, just flip the two switches on the bottom right up, and then the push button right next to the throttle to release them
-
it doesn't have optical tracking, so only things with active tracking will set it off.. and i don't know, but there is a manual launch button somewhere on the overhead panel that might work... i never really use the SEAD pod... though it's a cool idea...
-
the ecm jammer also automatically dumps chaff and flares when it detects a missile launch you take it for running SEAD.
-
yeah, sometimes, there just aren't enough missiles...
-
Yeah, loose weapon pylons seems to be a feature.... it doesn't effect single air2air missiles as much as it effects rocket pods, a2g missiles, or those R60 racks. as for fumbling around with controls, i suggest you go back and read this thread from the beginning, won't take long... go offline, set controls so you have to take your hands off your throttle and stick as little as possible, in the real cockpit, things are only inches away from each other anyway, having it all on your stick or keyboard in more convenient places than the stupid default keys is far more realistic than any stupid mouse click, as cool as it is to be able to actually flick a switch on. they were nice enough to provide some simple target practice missions offline, practice the medium and hard missions till you can confidently fire any missile the very second you know the missile will hit, you want to be like clint eastwood in a few dollars more, when he kills those 4 guys in like 2 seconds flat literally, before you even bother trying to kill stuff online.... trust me, will save you hours of frustration.

Airport frequencies and AWACS question ...??
Hadwell replied to simo1000rr's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
TWS2 is supposed to do that, not sure if it does or not, i think the only plane with TWS2 is the mig-29...
