If you use Tacan for your distance from the carrier, it will (should) stay at 1.2 (or 1.3 that I use) throughout your turn until you're in the groove. I'm not sure what the right DDI is giving you when it measures lateral distance. I mean, if it's not LOS (meaning it is calculating your stand off course distance as you slide down the reciprocal BRC) then it should be different from the Tacan measure and, as you get in the groove, it would measure zero (as opposed to the distance from the round down). Can you explain what I'm confused on?

No, this is the correct place for the Air Boss's vehicle. It's his parking spot and the monthly parking fees are normally paid for by the squadron with the most bolters. Note the red stripes: they are racing stripes. The red box on the rear bumper is the drag chute. The dual exhaust pipes below the drag chute are stock but not connected as the Air Boss has put in headers.

There is Autostart on most aircraft. If I remember correctly, it's right Windows key plus Home on your keyboard. Check your key-bind settings to see for sure. DCS is a study sim so most aircraft have start up procedures that mimic real life aircraft quite accurately. But DCS can do an autostart for you.

I abhor Steam. There are plenty of other games at Steam but, because Steam screwed me hard several years ago, I've hated them and now lose out on many good games. But DCS is NOT only on STEAM!!!!! I can't live without my DCS.

I did a solid month of carrier quals on CVA 59 with all four wires and cats working fine. But, yeah, I've seen vids and training films where a snapped wire went flying (disastrously). Our cycles had launches only then recovery only. During that month, we never had a QR (quick return) so all four cats were busy. The only flight deck surprise we had was when an A-7 smashed a nose gear on trap that got ingested and then fodded the deck. The Stack spun around while it all got cleared in about 10 minutes.

20 minute video, FA-18 Hornet flight from Sukhumi to Batumi using only one VOR station (Kutaisi).

Thanks, Mongo.

Haven't had but a half hour in the TWO so.... how DO you recenter the TGP? Or, do you have to slew it back?

That's what I meant.

Sorry, Wexler. I only use TrackIr.

She flies beautifully. Lots of new stuff to get memorized. First landing, I overran the runway because I forgot to add in the mapping for the toe brakes. Once she gets going in the air, it seems like she just doesn't want to slow down. (Fully loaded, I can understand that. but all I had on was two 65D's.) Take-off was just as the IRL pilots say: rotate and just let her ease up on her own. Oh, and the trim tabs on the HOTAS are mapped with LCTR included on the TM HOTAS trim button. I changed that to just the trim button on the stick. HMCS is a killer!!!!! Sure wish we had THAT on the Hornet.

How come I can't get a paddles call in my A-10C? Ha! Got a giggle out of someone, probably. The real reason I post this is to thank you, Bankler, sincerely for your work on these carrier ops missions. (Why doesn't ED hire you for your skills?) Thanks, man. Mac, RTB.

With Bogeys?????? If you have a data link to another aircraft, it cannot be a bogey, as defined. Bogey means that you DON'T know if it is a friendly or an enemy. As I understand it, you can only get a data link from a friendly.

Cantilever beam - single load - deflection Maximum Reaction Force at the fixed end can be expressed as: RA = F where RA = reaction force in A (N, lb) F = single acting force in B (N, lb) Maximum Moment at the fixed end can be expressed as Mmax = MA = - F L where MA = maximum moment in A (Nm, Nmm, lb in) L = length of beam (m, mm, in) Maximum Deflection at the end of the cantilever beam can be expressed as δB = F L3 / (3 E I) where δB = maximum deflection in B (m, mm, in) E = modulus of elasticity (N/m2 (Pa), N/mm2, lb/in2 (psi)) I = moment of Inertia (m4, mm4, in4) b = length between B and C (m, mm, in) Stress The stress in a bending beam can be expressed as σ = y M / I where σ = stress (Pa (N/m2), N/mm2, psi) y = distance to point from neutral axis (m, mm, in) M = bending moment (Nm, lb in) I = moment of Inertia (m4, mm4, in4) The maximum moment in a cantilever beam is at the fixed point and the maximum stress can be calculated by σmax = ymax F L / I I've seen the videos from the previous posts and, yes, I do see wing flex (as in some cases it's rather obvious.) The modulus of elasticity of pure carbon (in diamond form) is 700 - 1200 GPa. That would flex under the right conditions. So, all materials flex. Can you see it with your naked eye? In some materials, of course. It some others, no so easy. That said, in the most obvious example video link from previous posts, it would be possible to take a freeze from from one frame, skip forward a bit to catch the flex range, measure it in pixels, then using dimension data from actual A-10's, back calculate how many inches of flex the wing was sustaining in that video at that time frame. We could also calculate what the modulus of elasticity of the entire wing box was from just that pixel analysis. But, I've got a pizza coming out of my kitchen oven that needs to be eaten forthwith. You do the math. :)

Uh.... okaaaayyyyy.... now, cut a donut with your jet.:music_whistling:

FYI. There was nothing wrong with DCS. There were several problems with Win 10. But the cause of the crash was the cpu was OC'd to 5.1 GHz which was a bit too much. I backed it off to 4.971 and, so far, is stable. (Yes, it's watercooled.)

I would give up both my balls for a quality Vietnam map. To keep the map big enough to cover Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and the North and the South, just put in the major cities and bases. Say, Bangkok, U Tapao (a big Buff base there!), Saigon, perhaps just the outline of the Mekong, Phnom Penh, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Vientiane, Hanoi and Hai Phong. Everything else is just The Bush. Maybe enough of the South China Sea to allow for a carrier or two.

I also have a fresh install. However, I now have three computers. (1) my (W7) house server which I hope to use as a non-render server; (2) an older (also W7) but very fast gaming computer that I have been using since god was a kid; and (3) a brand new and very fast gaming computer that I just installed Winblows 10 on. Of course, the new OS crashes hard regularly. No, it's not the GFX driver nor the 2080ti, and no, it's not DCS. (I'm working on it... but I DO hate windows 10 very much.) My question, though, is: I have two gaming rigs. Can I put all my DCS stuff on BOTH rigs but only run one DCS at a time? (I have all the modules and terrains.) If I invite a friend over, is there any way I can get both gaming rigs to fly a two-ship? I mean, without buying all the modules again.

Information for the support ticket attached New install of Win 10. Then new install of DCS OpenBeta. Access violation by updater. No saved games stuff. Information.zip

Thanks again Flappie. Win 10 shouldn't have problems with DCS. If it does, at least it should say something in English (or others) just how it got itself so confused. I understand that it doesn't want the updater to do something to a windows location, but WHERE and WHY? Hopefully, ED will already understand how Win10 is so constipated and can recommend a laxative for it. :)

No go. Still get the Access Violation error that stops the download. I know it's windblows 10 problem. See? This is why I hate it. I've not got something set right. Anyway, uninstalled what managed to get started, deleted the download file AND the install directory on C: Added both the updater AND the whole damned OpenBeta folder to the exceptions list I zipped the dump file so I could upload it here. autoupdate_log.txt Dump file.zip
