I'm pretty sure larger combat ships with surface to air radar can provide GCI services to combat aircraft like an AWACS. We should be able to use them the same. Especially, ships with an anti-air mission.

[Known isuue] Throttles Aren't Modeled Correctly...
mytai01 replied to mytai01's topic in Bugs & Problems
The development video I posted of the F-4 shows a clip of the pilot using the throttles... -
I was wondering about folding wings, Ram Air Turbine (RAT), etc?

Being that this is a business issue between two companies, it's very likely that no public information will be forthcoming until a final agreement, or decision, is reached. It could be good news or bad news, but it won't be any news until a final decision is reached. Hope for the best!

This is the F-4E Bugs & Problems section...

I setup 4xF-14's to fly in a racetrack pattern and not react to attack at 30k. They were in contrail and we had AWACS support and even with all that Jester just doesn't find and lock targets. It seems that this is the easiest case and he can't get the job done. I've never fired a weapon in BVR. Things only work in ACM modes.

In Windows 10 (maybe others), go to Mixed Reality/Environment and select "Clear environment data" & "Reset my home." That fixed my problem. My headset was crashing and I couldn't play DCS.

I'm fine with the whole system going away if the LOD doesn't create giant airplanes at distance.
-
This is how ridiculous the dots are: I'm flying around looking for a tomcat that isn't being detected by my radar, or AWACS, or RWR. I look over my shoulder and see a big calorically challenged DOT that turns out to be over 15 miles away. This is a totally impossible situation in real life, but what do I know? I've only been a tower controller for 35 years...
-
It works like FLOOD mode in the F-15, I guess. That just hoses radiation at the target and it guides to the nearest target.
-
Have you tried using the full length of the deck to takeoff?
-
That's a crazy function...
-
As soon as aircraft get close enough and the dot disappears, you can't see the fighter sized aircraft until they get closer still. My experience has been before the dots take over, I couldn't see anything that was any further than where the dot system took over. So, I'm having trouble understanding what you're talking about. I've been involved with this sim since Su-27! I never saw LOD only aircraft at infinite distance.

This is a post about VR, not monitors...if anyone wants to talk about monitors then start a new post. I've never seen aircraft at infinite range. I don't know what you're talking about. This is a VR discussion.

If I've caged the radar, how do I get jester to take the radar back, and do regular scan?
-
I found the correct way to get out of CAGED mode. There's a button in the back seat, left side of the forward panel, that's lit green and the mouse highlight says "Air to Air Cage Exit." If you press that button the radar goes back to search mode. You can find the instructions on pages 193/4 of the manual... refer to button 2 in the photo...

The red beacon light only works in flashing mode? Is that correct?
-
The tacan mode seems to turn the tacan on, even when the tacan power switch is turned off. The pointer turns to the tacan and shows range.
-
I have the CAGE button and Auto Acquisition buttons bound to my joystick. It seems once I use them, the radar gets stuck in that modes that result from them. It's stuck at 5 mile range. Jester won't change anything, and I can't even get the switches in the back seat to work. The radar is stuck in that 5 mile caged mode. I'm not sure if there's another button I need to use to release control of the radar back to jester, or not.

I wouldn't put anything in its place. I would just let the LOD run free! There's nothing unrealistic to look out your cockpit and see nothing until the other aircraft is right on top of you. That's the only realistic result.
-
I would like to see frequencies displayed when units are selected on the F10 map.
-
Get rid of the dot system! Use your radar, AWACS, and RWR to help you find targets. That's how it's really done anyway. If you can't find them using all of that, then it's realistic. You're not supposed to know where threats are. Only your sensors can help you find them. Your eyes are useless until your close enough to dogfight. That's what realistic is. Scrap the whole ridiculous system. The easiest fix is to scrap it. If that makes people upset, then go play War Thunder!

I finally looked at the dots on a monitor and see what some of the problem is. On a high def monitor, the dots are very small single pixel dots (although sill ridiculous). In VR, the grey dots are huge! They look more like grey fuzzy balls several pixels in size. Perhaps 10x bigger than in 2D monitor mode. I hope this helps clear the confusion. I'm a pure VR player, and would never even bother with DCS on a monitor anymore. VR is the only way to play DCS.
