This is more of a function of the 3D model. The real F-4 throttles have to be pushed to the left through a detent to be advanced into AB, and pulled back to the right to go back to mil power. They actually move to the left and right at the transition point. I know this because I was playing with an Navy F-4N "gate guard" that was taken down and given to a museum.

Is the MiG-15 supposed to be this capable? Seems like it's way more capable than anything else...

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024
mytai01 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Two more weeks! -
The gun isn't hitting aircraft targets that are being accurately tracked at close range. Target was MiG-15 in straight & level flight.

I only fly in VR, HP G2. I see grey dots 20 miles away (airplanes, parachutes, and ground vehicles). It's completely ridiculous. There's no such thing as camouflage. every object is a obvious grey dot for 20 miles. Just go after the grey dots and you'll never miss! The only question is if it's a good guy or a bad guy. You don't even need radar or IFF. Just point at the dot and shoot in flood mode or bulldog. It's ridiculous...

I prefer the old LOD method. It's better not to see anything till it's within a few miles, than to see things 20 miles away. That is a ridiculous situation.
-
Any compensation method needs to be optional. If I'm playing single player, which is what I prefer, I don't want to be forced to use an unrealistic system. That's what radar is for! Let servers choose how they want to run.

Are there any plans for a Jester type GIB?

I think there's an expectation bias in this discussion. Everyone may have different ideas about how far away they should be able to see objects. Obviously, there are many factors that affect the distance an object is visible, individual eye sight, haze, and angle of the sun have the greatest effect in clear skies. Even in perfectly clear weather with zero haze controllers and pilots have to search the sky to see aircraft that is only 3-5 miles away. The best situation is when the sun is reflecting light back at the tower. The problem with the dot system in DCS is that the dots standout 20 miles away no matter the size of the aircraft, or the angle of the sun, or the haze level. This is completely unbelievable. There's a reason radar detection exists, but the dot system completely undermines the need for radar as a means of detecting aircraft. In clear skies, you might see a fighter sized aircraft if it turns in a 90 degree bank. If you want compensations, then either turn on labels, or make the dots an option. Multiplayer Servers can control that feature like every thing else.

The thing is, I have the advantage of looking at radar and aircraft all day. I can see what real aircraft look like at different ranges and sky conditions. It appears the dots appear at about 20 miles in VR. Even the C-5 would be difficult to see @ 20 miles. Anything smaller would never be visible that far away. However, it occurs to me that another part of the problem is that the contrast of the dot is too much. It needs to blend into the background much more. It should be difficult to see. As it is now, the dot functions better than short-range radar...

Is auto-hover still in disarray, awaiting OH-58 release before it gets attention? So far, I'm seeing it cycle through disengaging then being snatched back violently to the point of yanking the helicopter out of auto-hover parameters.
-
I believe the docs said there's no reset. Besides, it's much easier to trim to a near hover.
-
Gazelle ...what is needed to get the auto hover kicking in!?
mytai01 replied to Frag's topic in Polychop-Simulations
A very helpful technique is to use the china hat (assign as able) to trim the helicopter into a near hover before activating the auto-hover feature. -
options.lua Here you go!

Trying to show this bug has revealed some other bugs as well as our long hated track file deviation bug is back in long missions.

After flying for awhile the water starts to move backwards. It's especially disorienting in VR when trying to land on the carrier. You have to block what you see the water doing or you'll think you're flying backwards and crash. I have a track, but it's 56.1 MB... I'll see if I can put it out on my YouTube channel...

F-14A/B Flight Model Tuning - Guided Discussion
mytai01 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I haven't taken the Tomcats out for BFM in awhile, but the difference is amazing. I used to struggle with the wing rock coming on so easily. But, now it's much better at turning. I'm very happy with it's performance. -
Is it possible to control formation arrivals and departures?

I want my AI unit to sit quietly till activated.
mytai01 replied to mytai01's topic in Mission Editor
I figured it out from examining one of my old missions. First, there are two menus in the ME that need to be addressed. The "set rules for trigger" menu, and the "airplane group" menu. The first thing to do is select the airplane group you want to act on by selecting it on the map, then the "airplane group" information comes up. Select "uncontrolled" but, don't change the start time. Then select the "action triggers" button (the one with the vertical yellow line)>"add" button>"perform command">"start." You can name it anything you want. Then, select "set rules for trigger" button. You see three boxes, "triggers," "conditions," "action." In "triggers," select, "once," "no event." In "conditions," select "more time," and how many seconds you want before start. In "actions," pick "AI task push," then pick the unit you want. Do this for each unit you want. -

mytai01 replied to mytai01's topic in Mission Editor
I looked at the "Triggers" menu. There's no "start" command in either "triggers," or "conditions," or "actions." It doesn't matter if I select "uncontrolled," or not. If I enter 6:30am on WP0, in a mission that starts at 6:00am, the unit is absent until 6:30. This is not what I want. I want the unit sitting there from 6:00am, then start at 6:30. To me, this should be the default in game. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to make that happen...I don't understand why that is not the norm.
