  1. Point was just Informational - for Bragging Rights for who is the Fastest on the Deck ! Was inspired by Grim Reaper's Drag Race Video, did you watch it - what did you Think ? Took all Airspeed Readings in Level Flight (VVI = 0) as best I I could hold the aircraft stable. As for other factors - wasn't that scientific. I'd guess they are Relevant if you're down Low being Chased by an Enemy Aircraft intent on running you down and Gunning your Brains out. For the MiG-19, I used a similar AGL/MSL but in the Caucasus Map. Yes - Aircraft are Optimized for Performance in Different Regimes of Flight - depending on where most of your Tactical Mission will take Place. Pre Desert Storm, High-Speed, High-Threat Low-Altitude Tactics dominated Tactical Thinking for Strike Aircraft. But for Desert Strom, Because the AAA posed a Grave Threat, the Air Component Commander (Gen Horner) took the Fight up to Medium Altitude hoping to employ from above the worst of it. And if you are familiar with 'Constant Peg', one of the most impressive results was when they were cooking along in the MiG-23 in Full AB, the Pilot looked down and saw 820 KIAS and still accelerating. And as you Know - at any Altitude, the Faster KIAS (actually KCAS) equates to the Faster KTAS/KGS. Yes - Speed is Life ! Give it a Try and see if your Results match mine - BOL from BVR !
  2. Just in Case others would like to Compare Results and see if these Speeds are relatively the Same as you'd experience. I did a Top-Speed Check for all these DCS World Fighters. I flew all Aircraft in Clean Configurations – No External Stores except the Empty Weapon Pylons Methodology - Full AB until the Speed Stabilized I mostly used the Corridor between Nellis AFB and Creech AFB (Indian Springs) for the Speed Runs. Flew Level Flight about 500 ft above the Ground for the Tests. 3. Thank You 'razo+r' ! Got it. But to tell you the Truth - I don't notice much difference with the Upgraded F-5E as far as Flight Dynamics, and exterior Looks. Maybe more Cockpit Controls Work Now -but I'm not a Big Switchology Guy. I'll have to spend some time in the Cockpit today and check things oiut Wondering if anyone can fill me in briefly on what exactly changed with the Remastered F-5E. TANKS ! Worked like a Charm. Got me Red & White Checker-Board Skin-Paint back on my MiG-21. TANKS !
  4. When I used Module Master to Install my Upgraded F-5E 2024 (Re-Mastered by ED), it did not appear to Disable my original F-5E (Belsimtek). Both F-5Es look Active as shown in current Module Manager. Both F-5E Versions (Original & Remastered 2024) show in the Mods Folder. But in Quick-Start Instant-Action, Missions, and Mission Editor, only the F-5E Shows Up (doesn't tag it with 'Remastered' or '2024'). That's why I was wondering how to know which F-5E I'm flying. I guess I'll try manually disabling the Older F-5E Installation and hope the Newer Version works OK.
  5. Many TANKs you Guys (Silverdevil & Art-J) I'll use your Advice and give it a Try. I always thought the Saved Games Folder (under 'USERS\Account-Name') was for the Customized Settings for your Keyboard and Flight Control Configuration - and DCSW automatically saved those settings there. I probably have 20+ Modules and the only Aircraft that was auto-installed (by Module Manager) there (to Saved Games\DCS) was the F-4. I never realized that you should duplicate the DCS 'Mods' Folder under Saved Games\DCS. And While I'm at it - I'll the the Mods MiG-21Bis Folder to the Core Mods Folder - Guess that won't hurt anything and we'll see about slapping that Cool Red & White Checkerboard Paint Job on me Fishbed.
  6. Hey there 'razo+r'. Thank you for the quick reply and good information. Here's the Livery that I can't Seem to re-Install after last several DCSW Updates: MiG-21bis - Croatian Air Force - special scheme Kockica (DCSW 2.5 Download) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3311109/ I'll try to check for restrictions that might prevent me using this Coll Skin. And in some Folder Locations the Livery Folder remains in .zip Format - while in other locations they're Un-Zipped ?
  7. To Start with - All my Aircraft Modules are Flyable - that's not the Issue. Here's the Issue(s): - 9 of my Installed Aircraft Modules (in Mods Folder) are missing from the Core Mods Folder - Why would that be ? - I purchased the Upgraded F-5E (single F-5E 2024, not in FC-2024) on top of my stand alone previous F-5E Module; but only the F-5E Shows in the Core Mods Folder, the F-5E 2024 Module is not showing (Note - Both F-5E and F-5E 2024 show up in Mods Folder - two separate entries). Same with Instant Action and Mission Tabs - Only the F-5E is Showing - so how do I know I'm flying the 'F-5E 2024' Upgraded Version ? And in Create Fast Mission - the Aircraft is referred to as the F-5E-3. And in the Last few Updates - several of my Favorite (custom) Liveries have disappeared from where they're usually saved in Backup Folders (after an update). I can re-download the Liveries - but Please - Tell me the Definitive Folder Location in which they go - Seems there are 3 or 4 different locations where you can find Liveries - and the don't all correspond to the Livery List shown in Mission Editor. Where does Mission Editor pull its available Liveries From Folder Location-wise. TANKs in Advance for any Help here !
  8. Same Here - After Latest DCSW Update, the Nose-Up / Nose-Down Trim Commands do NOT Work. I'm Using HOTAS Warthog Stick's Top Hat Switch for Trim, and it is assigned properly - and works Pitch Trim in other Mods - Only Yak-52 Affected. You can manually command the Trim Control Wheel to move (turn) with the Mouse Wheel - but the normal Pitch Trim Commands don't work - and the Trim Control Wheel is not a Control Element that you can assign Keystrokes to. I finish every DCSW Session with a YAk-52 Take-Off and Landing. Need me Trim BACK !
  9. Yupper - That Too - Especially True ! SHACK lead !
  10. So beyond my F-14 Module Malware Detections, logging on yesterday (12-Mar-2025) resulted in the F-14 Module Failing Authorization. Seems like others have experience the Same, ref: F14 not authorized (By Semaphore; 17 hours ago in Bugs and Problems) https://forum.dcs.world/topic/370469-f14-not-authorized/ A few Quick Google Searches (DCSW F-14 Not Authorized) hinted at often times a Solution: - Add the DCW World Folder as an Exemption to your Anti-Malware Software (especially Windows Defender) - Then run a DCS Repair (good re-acquaintance with CMD DOS-like Commands) Seemed to Work - Next Logon - A-OK ! Just an observation here - me 2 cents: Look - Eagle Dynamics and Heatblur Simulations must know about the certain F-14 Files that Trigger Malware Alerts. As Smart as their Developers and Programmers are - there has to be a Fix so that these anomalies (Malware Alerts, and Failed Authorizations) don't interfere with enthusiastic DCSW Users who just want some Good Clean Kills. Hope this gets rectified before bothering too many Honest (and paying) DCSW Aces out there - TANKS !
  11. Replaced the suspect files in F14\bin with backup of files from July-2024 (files exact same size). Same Malware Warnings. So I suspect that these Malware Warnings are False Positives generating from Updated Malware Signatures that are identifying previously clean files now as Naughty Ones. Flew the F-14 (sort of Rusty - caught the 4 Wire) and all seemed A-OK !
  12. MalwareBytes also fingers this sister File: DCS World\Mods\Aircraft\F14\bin\F14-FlightModel.dll Guessing I'll need to delete both files and run a Repair - Any Guidance from DCS Masters out there Appreciated
  13. Malware Warning popped up recently - after the latest update (2.9.12.5336); but I don't suspect the Update at Fault because it doesn't look like the F-14 was included in the Update. Here's what Windows Security Found: Detected: PUA:Win32/GameHack file: F:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F14\bin\F14-HeatblurCommon.dll Possible False Positive ? - Anyone have any more Info on this Booger ?' TANKS in Advance Warning Attached !
  14. I updated to 2.9.6 Today. I previously owned FC3 and all three new Jets to FC 2024 as Individual Aircraft (F-86F, MiG-15, and F-5E Tiger II) - so No need to Upgrade to FC 2024 Upgrade went OK except it ATE my Original F-86 (my Mig-15 and F-5E came thru Fine - All OK). None of the F-86 Setting and Control Options were Working - even though I could see them still programmed correctly. Checking Saved Games DCSW - Config - Input - now Created Two separate F-86 Folders (F-86F and F-86 Sabre, WTFO ?????). I tried mixing and matching and swapping between them to no Avail. DCS Repair thru Command Prompt was not working. Uninstalled F-86 Module and now it doesn't Reinstall ??? Reverting to 2.9.5 and with an Older Saved Games DCS Folder. May try Upgrading Again and see how things Go. Want my SabreJet Back - Got MiGs to Kill ! =========================================== Continued: Went back to 2.9.5 (and previous Saved Games Folder) - All OK and F-86 Working correctly Now; except Module Manager looks (red icons) like it want me to upgrade/download FC 2024 Jets (but I already own them individually). Another DCSW Installation (separate PC) I had did upgrade from FC3 to FC2024 perfectly OK. Looks like the Problems updating to 2.9.6 are folks like me who own the Individual Jets (F-86, MiG-15, and F-5E) already, but aren't upgrading to FC-2024 ??????? =============================================================== Update: 25-July-204 Tried Updating DCSW Again to 2.9.6.57650 to 2.9.6.58056 All OK except FC3 F-86 and Su-25 - Both those Aircraft lost all their Settings. But unlike the Earlier (above) F-86 Update Failure where settings were all still there showing correctly, but aircraft was totally not responding (Dead Duck) - Here the Settings were simply Erased, and the Fix was to go in and Re-program all the Controls and Settings. All is Well Now - but wish Update to 2.9.6+ would have gone easier !
  15. Moron (Sorry - I mean More On) F-4 Landings: We all know that F-4 Landings were considered a Thing of Beauty in the Eyes of the Aircrews who Wrestled the RHINO back to Terra Firma. So, I thought I'd Practice Up a Bit on my F-4 Landings to be One with the Rhino. Spent a couple hours beating up the Overhead Pattern at Nellis AFB (Las Vegas - Baby!). The Wise-Guy in the Back (a.k.a. 'Jester'), made innumerable snide, and snarky comments on any landing that didn't touchdown with less than 100 fpm sink rate. The Aircraft was made to routinely Touchdown at 700 fpm descent rate for the Fellers out at Sea. And most every Phantom Touchdown I've seen on Land looked somewhere between fairly Firm, and a Solid THUD; estimating they were landing with at least half the Navy's Sink Rate. The Only Landings where I got a Compliment from Jester were the Ones I Touched down smoothly with (probably) less than 100 fpm Sink Rate. But how does one land the Phantom Softly ? A Normal Onspeed F-4 Approach & Landing (19.2 Units AoA) provides very little excess energy (Pitch authority to Round-Out/Flare); and coupled with the Ground Effect's tendency to Pitch Down, the Stick Movement to counter that depletes a few last Knots resulting with more of a THUD, rather than Kissing the Runway. There were two techniques I tried that did provide a Smooth Touchdown much closer to a Normal Aircraft's highly coveted perfect Landing. Here's How: 1. Fairly Simply - Carry 5-10 extra Knots above Onspeed KIAS. That allows the extra energy needed to conventionally Round-out and Flare to a Smooth Touchdown. Touchdown Speed remains the Same, but one might want to use a slightly shorter aimpoint to account for the extra distance that a Flare will add to touchdown spot. 2. Fly Onspeed, and as you attempt to break the Descent rate (just before touchdown) with Back-Stick Pressure, Add some Power - Goose the Throttles - that will assist you in leveling Off (with a Touch of Float) prior to Touchdown - and result (many times) in a Smoother Landing. Like to have some other DCSW Rhino Drivers try these techniques out, and leave some Feedback - TANKS in Advance ! * Lastly - a Time-Tested ROT - 1,000 F-4 Landings from now - You'll (and me too will) be Better at Landing the Phantom. =================================================================== Reference Landing & Shutdown Tutorial for the F-4E Phantom by Heatblur in DCS World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhIj_udzGUY If you watch the VVI at Touchdown (and accounting for some VVI Lag), I'd estimate the Touchdown happens at about 400 fpm Descent Rate.
  16. I shoulda read the below Post before my first Flight: Mastering your First Phantom Flight https://forum.dcs.world/topic/348817-mastering-your-first-phantom-flight/ "Seat full up for landing. It’s difficult to see over the nose, so you may need to use RCTL+RSHFT+8 to raise cockpit camera". But still wondering if Pilots had to that in the Real Aircraft ?
  17. During Slightly-Fast Final Approaches (3+ Degree Glide-Slope, 1,000 fpm Descent Rate) - Using the Default Cockpit Sitting Height (Eye Position), I have trouble keeping the Approach End of the Runway Environment in Sight - I'm Unable to see over the Nose of the Aircraft. Raising my Eye Position (Sitting Height) by what I estimate to be about 3-4 Inches allows me to keep the Runway in Sight until well into the Round-Out/Flare where you transition to Peripheral Vision to the Judge Height above Touchdown. Maybe the Trick is to stay Steep & Fast (like Landing the MiG-21). Wondering if this was the same in the Real Aircraft - Did Front Seaters have to raise their Ejection Seats Up to Land the F-4 ?
  18. For the DCSW Folks who want the $9.99 Upgrade (MiG-15, F-86, and F-5E), wondering if the Upgrade will overwrite the Configuration Settings in Saved Games for the already existing FC-3 Aircraft ? C:\Users\User-Account\Saved Games\DCS\Config\input Hopefully it Won't - but I guess better to be safe by making a backup copy of Saved Games before Upgrading. And think the added 3 Fighters are a nice gesture by ED making FC an ideal starting Module for Beginners and seasoned Fighter Aces alike. A simplified interface doesn't equal simplified Fun - in fact, the instant action scenarios in FC3 will get your Stick & Rudder Kicks into high-gear (just without high-fidelity Switchology). Thank you ED - Now just wondering when we'll see it for Sail ?
  19. Bada Bing - Bada Boom: No more Stuttering in 2.9 - FIXED ! Have an Older Machine (refurbing as a Gift to an Intrepid Young Aspiring Fighter Pilot all of 13 years old) that was Top-of-the-Line some 10 Years Ago (Haswell 4790K Devil's Canyon, Gen9 Big Maxwell Titan-X, 32 GB RAM) still running DCSW at 80-100 fps (@ 2560x1440) but started stuttering badly with release of 2.9. Have followed a Dozen Possible Leads to No Avail - until I hit on Turning On Hyper-Threading (Thanks to the Gentleman's Posts below). Back in the Day, primarily Single-Threaded Flight Sims recommended turning Hyper-Threading OFF to improve Performance. That's where my BIOS setting Stayed Since Then (HT OFF), But reading the Advice Below - Turned HT Back On and Bada Bing - Bada Boom ! Now Smooth as Silk - Most Excellent ! This Malady (Stuttering) seemed fairly widespread with release of 2.9 - I'm surprised that Eagle Dynamics didn't release an Advisory Note on that (Stuttering) when 2.9 got Pushed Out - I guess HT-On is the Current Standard, and they (didn't anticipate) failed to Test and Identify that Problem - so we was on our Own by Trial & Error. And I can't figure Out why there'd be stuttering when the Frames are cranking out at 80-100 fps ?? Somebody lot smarter than 'Moi' Knows - but they aint Saying ! But Pretty Happy the Stutters are Gone ! TANKs for the Idea - Reference where Credit is Due: By Mateo October 27, 2023 in Game Performance Bugs 2.9 (after update )massive stuttering/image freeze for 1-3 sec all time even at LOW settings https://forum.dcs.world/topic/336422-29-after-update-massive-stutteringimage-freeze-for-1-3-sec-all-time-even-at-low-settings/ I have noticed improvement when I set my hyperthread in BIOS to enable. It is strange for me, usually hyperthread make things worse, but now during simple test I have notice improvement that is worth for ED to pay attention. It shows that my stuttering is probably CPU related. During my test one of core go to nearly 100% usage. I disabled that core and re-enabled during the gameplay, in effect stutters were gone again, and CPU usage was average on all cores. If some of you have the ability to hyperthred your CPU, it might be worth a try. BUT - This Feller Improved (In VR) when HT was Turned OFF - Go Figure ??????????? By fab.13 March 13, 2023 in VR Bugs Disable HyperThreading reduce stutter a lot, give a try. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/321514-mt-version-disable-hyperthreading-reduce-stutter-a-lot-give-a-try/
  20. TANKS 4 the Info ! But in my Cases there were Zero Software or Hardware Changes - Maybe just a Glitch in the Matrix. Interested if anyone else experienced this Problem and what they think might have causee it. In my Cases - ED Support was very Helpful and had me up and running in less than Half an Hour.
  21. For Years I was in the Habit of making sure DCS World was Updated, and then switching to Off-Line Mode so as to have the ability to Fly DCSW even if my Internet was Down. I would only go On-Line for Updates, and Down-Loads & Installs of New Modules. This Protocol seemed to work fine for many years - No Problems. Switching back and forth from/to Off-line - Online worked Perfectly Solid - No Glitches in the Matrix ! But recently (Twice in the Past Year) I've encountered the Dreaded ............. "Cannot exit offline mode due to hardware ID change. Ask for support." Error .............. ............... and have had to contact ED Support - bothering them with something that should have been no Problem in the first place. And there was absolutely No Hardware ID Change on my Part - So what is DCSW is looking at when if Acts-Up like This ? So for Now, staying Online - which is actually an easy common sense solution - but still wonder why I was getting Stuck Dead-in-the-Water in Off-Line Mode ???
  22. I've flown the following Scenario about a Dozen Times in the last 24 hours. MB-339 - Instant Action - Nevada - BFM Training (Caution: you're fighting an F-5 who thinks "The Hell with Training, I'm going Live Gun") In most engagements, I end up Over-G-ing the Aircraft and ripping a Wing Off (have to get my 'Wing Off' Check-List Out). Even the AI F-5 Over-G-ed and Crashed - "Oh Well - A Kills a Kill" ! But upon closer inspection (using Watch Track) I captured the Moment of Structural Failure approaching 8.5 G's. Yes - technically that is an Over-G being the Aircraft's Normal G-Limit is stressed to 7.33 G's (that's pretty much the engineering standard for Western 3rd Generation Fighters). But in almost all cases - the Ultimate Load Factor (Structural Failure Point) is 1.5 Times the G-Limit quoted as the Operational Limit. A Well-Maintained and Inspected Aircraft should have plenty of Buffer (Margin of Error) above the stated G-Ops Limit. There is No Way the MB-339 should be Failing at just over 8 G's - The Ultimate Load where Failure could occur is about +11 G's. Yes - I Know - 'My BAD' for the Over-G. But - To the Fine Developers (IndiaFoxtEcho) of the MB-339 - maybe you can Tweak this Behavior (unless it's Realistic - Which I doubt it is) - so I can take that F-5 One-Circle, and not only Win the Fight - but 'Win the Debrief" ! TANKs ! REFERENCE: Ultimate Load https://skybrary.aero/articles/ultimate-load#:~:text=The Ultimate Load is the,CS 25.305 and Section 25.305). The Ultimate Load is the Limit Load multiplied by a prescribed Safety Factor of 1.5. Limit and Ultimate Loads https://www.stressebook.com/limit-and-ultimate-loads/ This ultimate load safety factor is generally assumed to be 1.5 times the limit load.
  23. Not gonna Land the 339 on an Aircraft Carrier
  24. Have always admired the sweet aerodynamic lines of the MB-339, and love the Frecce Tricolori paint job ever since seeing them (Mid 1980's) perform in North Texas for their fellow IAF Pilots stationed with ENJJPT. So initially - I just want to get familiar with the aircraft by just flying it around sporting the Italian Aerial Demonstration Teams Colors. But I'm confused about the Installation of the MB-339A and MB-339A/PAN. In some places they appear as two separate aircraft, as in Options (Controls), Create Fast Mission, and Saved Games (Config - Input). In other places, the MB-339A/PAN appears to be just a Livery (Skin Paint), as in Mods, and Core Mods. In Instant Action and Missions, their is No choice to select the MB-339A/PAN - Only the Combat Decked out MB-339A. The only place I saw where I was able to pull up the MB-339A/PAN (Frecce Tricolori) was in Create Fast Mission. So is the MB-339A/PAN a separate aircraft or just a Livery ? And am I missing something obvious about easily flying the MB-339A/PAN in Italian Colors ? Tanks in Advance for any Clarification. PS: One other observation - Opening the Speedbrake (Approach for Landing) seems to produce a excessive cockpit vibration. Yeah, I expect a little Buffet - but (IMHO) I think the visual (shaking) effect is over-done.
  25. So I get that the Carrier was on an Operational Deployment in the Med where real world threats existed, ............ Tomcats 4, Libya 0 - The Real Story of the Gulf of Sidra Incidents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyMfC3M0fZQ ........... but why would an Aircraft participating in a 'Dry Only' Exercise be fragged out with Live (Waiting for Murphy) ? Maybe for the exact reason that real world threats did exist in the vicinity ??? Exercise “Display Determination 87” was supposed to be a routine NATO exercise, pitting U.S. Air Force Phantoms out of Zweibrucken Air Base in West Germany against F-14 Tomcats from the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean Sea. All the Phantoms had to do was find the Saratoga and engage in an exercise attack, if the Tomcats didn’t find them first. Wondering if any Naval Procedures changed as a result of this Good (just kiddin) Kill ? When a US Navy F-14 Tomcat Shot Down a USAF RF-4C Phantom II https://theaviationgeekclub.com/video-when-a-us-navy-f-14-tomcat-shot-down-a-usaf-rf-4c-phantom-ii/ A Navy F-14 Tomcat once shot down an Air Force RF-4C Phantom https://www.wearethemighty.com/articles/a-navy-f-14-tomcat-once-shot-down-an-air-force-rf-4c-phantom/ When a US Navy F-14 Shot Down a USAF Phantom https://sierrahotel.net/blogs/news/when-a-us-navy-f-14-shot-down-a-usaf-phantom VIDEO: US Navy F-14 Shoots Down USAF RF-4C During Training https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycNNWZ79YdY ANALYSIS: How a Navy Tomcat Shot Down an Air Force Phantom During a Training Exercise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeGFWq0lGv8
