  1. Thanks prophet... yes it is starforce.... Yes lomac works fine...(better than fine)... yes I've been in lengthy communication with starforce... No... they have not been able to cure the problem.... I have given them all the information that is available to me... Yes silent hunter works in a very similar way but does not have this problem..... I will try your suggestion to remove starforce drivers.... very frustrated by situation.. SF are trying to help i know, but they aren't acheiving very much... regards TJ
  2. Thanks for offering to help prophet... I did not know there was a starforce patch can you advise exactly what to do please... In answer to your query starforce comes up as normal checks disk, if there etc... but after 3/4 starts, with stuff going on between, then it fails with the messages shown at the start of this thread. as I said before, I cannot pin down what upsets starforce. using the internet/using other games/using other software/ reading disks/ all seem to cause the problem, but randomly,,, if that makes sense. all other games work without problem. I have reinstalled my entire system in an attempt to cure the problem, but no luck... (i did manage to get rid of a lot os useless junk. any help appreciated... copying lockon directory out and back in does not solve problem... reinstalling 1.12a does...
  3. Thanks for your reply... At last someone sounds constructive. I do own the game. I bought the lock on gold copy from amazon uk. I cannot produce the receipt, i bought it a while back. I cannot pin down what causes it to go inoperable... only that if I do a lot of other work in between startups, it fails. All the other games work fine including Silent hunter III, which uses the same type of protection as starforce. as I said before i'm not trying to bash SF but I want to play the game, and i cannot contemplate BS if the same things happens... please help

  5. This is all very interesting.... (or not) but i am still unable to play the game without having to reinstall it and F-15 and all the other add-ons every 3/4 startups. Silent hunter iii has the same type of protection but works without any problem on my system (which is bog standard). can anyone help please...
  6. Please help with starforce problem... I have played lock on up to 1.12a for many months... suddenly, recently, starforce opens with an abend... (see attached thumbnails) By re-installing 1.12a patch the problem 'goes away' for several starts. But soon recurs I have tried copying the 'lock on' folder out and back but this does not work. something else the patch does clears the problem... unfortunatley all the fixes (F-15, TWS GBU-97) are 'reset' when i reinstall patch 1.12a. If BS is protected by the same staroffice software it will not be worth my while buying it very disappointing... :) :( I have attached thumbnails to a 'bug' forum post (can't seem to attach them to this post... sorry)
  7. I'm sure you are right,,, provided the protection works. It doesn't. I've paid good cash money for the game, and expect it to work. I don't care about 'starforce/no starforce'. I want to play the game i've paid for.... I don't want my money back, which i can have in England, i want to play the game. Have bought F4-allied force. I expect it to work. Have bought all IL2 series... no problem. I've bought Silent Hunter III with its protection, but I can still play it. Can't with lomac/FC. end of story. Pity because it is still the best.

  9. I have installed patch FC plus patch 1.12a... all worked fine for several months but now i get abnormal ends from starforce " unhandled exception in protection system GUI application ...." please help... desperate to play sim again... going insane... here are the messages if anyone can help

  12. they were inbound and I fired from abiut 14nm. leaving the radar on, all four missiles hit thier intended target. but switiching the radar off, shows that the modelling is doing what it is supposed to be doing. i.e. some of the missiles continued and hit, some lost lock and re-locked on another target some lost lock and missed
  13. I set up a test with four inbound IL-76s. TWS designated them all. fired 4 aim-120 in v rapid succession. about half way through their flight I switched off my radar. v interesting to see where they went. have a try... col
  14. Thanks goya I tried designating 5 contacts but only 4 would designate. The fifth took, but then the first was undesignated and the orginal 2nd became primary etc.. thanks again col

Thanks IK used your fix. 1 didn't seem to work on a moving target. 2 i forgot to use the 'o' key but noticed that the pipper changed to 'locked' pipper. at that point i released the weapon and all was fine. 3 the meint.xml with the fix was 5% smaller than the original have you any ideas why? 4 I cannot load BetaOABshp onto Tu-160 or the bear. is this fixable? thanks again for the fix hope these question don't seem too stupid. col

Not sure i cna help with 1 and 4 above but to arrange an external view without locking in a compass direction (ie the way F2 works) use the chase view (def ctrl-F4). use this view controlled with a combination of shift-esc and up,down,left,right, To give yourself time to set up these views use pause/start. hope this helps

  20. I am unsure about 'beaming'. If I understand correctly the idea is to reduce your relative speed to the aircraft that has you locked. When this is achieved the aircraft/missile radar will now ignore your radar return as 'it considers you ground clutter'. Can I ask what the 'exact' processing is? my understanding is as follows:- 1 If the enemy is heading directly toward me the radar return he receives will have a doppler shift equivalent only to his true speed, if I have him at my 3/6 position. 2 If the enemy is heading directly toward me the radar return he receives will have a doppler shift equivalent to his true speed minus my true speed, if I have him at my 6 position. This may well be very low, zero or 'negative doppler' if my speed is greater than his. 3 Do the radars distinguish between 'positive' and 'negative' doppler? 4 If the enemy is heading directly toward me the radar return he receives will have a doppler shift equivalent to his true speed plus my true speed if I have him at my 12 position. 5 Any positions not on the cardinal 3/6/9/12, will produce a relative speed (and hence a relative doppler shift) which is his true speed times the sine of the angle of 'position' in which he appears to me. 6 Any positions not on the cardinal 3/6/9/12, will require modified beaming. The arithmetic to provide a zero doppler now being quite complicated. 7 3/6 beaming will only produce zero/low doppler for a brief period. Quite soon a relative speed will develop and require speed/heading changes to again reduce the relative speed. 8 Does the tracking radar take into account its own speed when considering if the target is 'doppler' shifted. I.e. if my radar return has a zero doppler shift then I am moving at the same speed as him, if heading in the same direction. Does this means I am not 'background clutter'? 9 Does the tracking radar take into account its own speed when considering if backgorund clutter is 'doppler' shifted. I.e. 'ground clutter' returns should have doppler shifts depending on thier bearing from the locking aircraft. (doppler shifted by true speed at 12 position, zero doppler shift at 3/9 position etc.) 10 Why can I never type the word doppler without having to go back and change it from dopller? please help losing sleep

  22. Thanks for all your help found the bit of road. Unfortunately nothing will drive across it all vehicles bury themselves in it or go off road (even with on road settings) is this a known bug or a problem for me only? thx col :helpsmilie:

  24. I can successfully lock mavericks onto enemy helos, but they fly ritght through is this sensible? should they be successful? any comments? thanks advance col
