AndrewMCP's LOCKON Movie Tornado Precision Strike
gundelgauk replied to enigma6584's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Just downloaded and watched it. It works fine, thanks a lot! Nice movie too, even though it doesn't quite match the production quality of GA's movies. They did a good job with the music matching the impacts and the siren scene afterwards though. Good stuff! +rep They really should have used EF2000s though. ;) -
Recently I've been subject to blinking a few times, usually it was done by members of some squads, no less. Luckily I had read about this on the forum before, in another thread, so I knew what was happening. Usually when I saw it, I tried to get a radar contact or lock for about 30 seconds, then just typed "lol, blinker" on the chat, Split S and fled with full afterburner. Because Ok, maybe it can be defeated but frankly I'm not good enough to evade 6 missiles while getting close enough to the other guy to even get a lock on him. So basically yes, it somewhat ruins the engagement for me.

Who plays online and who does not.
gundelgauk replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You should. :D Well I can only speak for the VVS504-Air2Grnd server because I recently fell in love with the A-10 and then the 25T and I've been playing on this server since. It has no fighter aircraft available which I like because usually I get shot down by an F-15 or a MiG long before reaching the target area on the other servers when I try to go A2G. Generally speaking, the missions on there involve a stand-off or battle on the ground between red and blue forces and the players are to provide CAS and sometimes SEAD support. Flight time to the target area is not too far, about 40-90km usually I think. The missions run for 120 minutes (I think) and after that, a new mission is loaded. I don't know how many people coordinate themselves with teamspeak because I don't use it (I'm afraid that I'd make a fool out of myself, lol) but it seems that most people just fly for themselves. At least when there are not many people on the server. You can land on any airfield, even hostile ones and repair/reload/refuel there. It's kind of unrealistic, although I've been thankful for it a number of times when the occasional Igla managed to blast the engines off my fuselage. :music_whistling: EDIT: Wow, it's VV and not W? Sorry, editing that. -
Who plays online and who does not.
gundelgauk replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
When I was new to LockOn, I played only offline to learn and study the sim while lurking in the forum. At some point it grew a bit dull because of the static missions and I got bold enough to try out multiplayer. Things went kind of fast from there. I got hooked, immediately bought Flaming Cliffs, soon thereafter the X-52 and finally a TrackIR4. Now all I do is play online, except for some quick missions now and then in order to test profiles or something. You do know that the VVS504-Air2Grnd server on Hyperlobby only has ground attack planes available? I suggest you try it out immediately, it's awesome and most of the missions are great! -
In before colossal flamewar.

Well that's certainly a great feature. Too bad I never use ALT+Tab anyways.

I like the comments in the file. They show up as // êëþ÷è îñâåùåíèÿ ñîëíöà // ïåðâûé ïàðàìåòð - âûñîòà ñîëíöà íàä(ïîä) ãîðèçîíòîì [-1,1] // 2-4 ïàðàìåòðû - RGB öâåòàfor me. Sure explains a lot! :megalol:

I keep hearing so much about driver problems with Vista, it's pretty much ridiculous. Personally I haven't had any, apart from the SST software problem. But if so many people complain, there must be something to it. What in the name of all that is holy happened there? Pre beta developer editions of Vista have been available for a long, LONG time before the final release. What have companies like Creative or Nvidia (no less!) been doing all the time? On topic again, I second the recommendation to wait before upgrading, even if you have a good chance that LO will work. Because there's simply no point. You get to spend a few hundered bucks and your computer will most likely feel like it's 1-2 years older. That's about it at the moment.
-
For many people LockOn FC and TrackIR work, at least in the 32 bit version. From what I know you have to install LO as Administrator (and possibly start it as Admin as well, I'm not sure about this) and get an update for Starf0rce from their site. TrackIR simply works as far as I know. The X-52 does work, there is a Vista driver. SST however does not, either the profile editor crashes or you get some message about your profile files containing no valid profile.

X-52 Pro Profile - anybody got one?
gundelgauk replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
My profile is very different from what you requested so it wouldn't be of much use to you. As for the things you wanted to know... I don't think that's possible, at least I know of no way to do that. You can set it to zoom the cockpit view but as you're using a TrackIR, I guess you don't need that. The mini stick acts as a mouse, so all you need to do for that is go to the in game options -> Input -> Mouse -> Axis and set TDS Slew Horizontal to Axis0 and TDS Slew Vertical to Axis1. That should do the trick. For that go to Options -> Input -> X-52 -> Axis and set Trim Pitch and Trim Roll to Rotator0 and Rotator1. I don't remember which one is which so you'll have to try it out. I found however that very little change in the rotator changes trim drastically, making it hard to do precice trimming. I use the rotators for radar slewing now and the pinky switch with one of the hats for trim. Just assign buttons (or combinations) to it in the profile editor. I use it for zoom but that thing is horribly unprecise, jumping back and forth, at least on my set. It's the only thing I don't like about my X-52. -

gundelgauk replied to sixer's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Agreed, this trailer has nothing to do with the actual game. I closed the browser tab as soon as I saw the dragonfly (or whatever insect it was) at the very beginning because I might as well watch a hollywood movie. I don't care too much about graphics anyways. I'd still play LockOn if it had F4 graphics because I just like the feel and the gameplay. I have to play it on the lowest possible settings after all. Sometimes I wish the graphics were worse because maybe then it would run better on my dated machine. :megalol: I might try this sim of course but unfortunately it doesn't look like it will be out for some time either. -
Not trying to be rude at all, but having had these bad experiences, why don't you just do the smart thing and quit giving out hints that you're female while playing? It's a known fact that as soon as there's a chance that a person is female on the internet, desperate guys will start hitting on him/her because they're hoping to get an e-girlfriend or whatever. Many females know this too and do this intentionally in order to get attention. (Note, I'm not at all saying that that's what you're doing) Personally both annoy the hell out of me. There's no problem while everyone is anonymous. So why not just stick to being anonymous while you're playing on public servers? Ok, this means that you won't be able to use teamspeak on those but from my limited experience, many people on public servers don't use it anyways. As the others already said, in a squad you'll likely not have this problem anyways.

No, that is not paranoid but perfectly sensible. Unfortunately. Still, sorry but you didn't seem to take my post too seriously. ;) While what you did is all well, have you considered that there might be processes running on your computer that do NOT show up in the task manager's process list? As I said, malware these days have very sophisticated hiding techniques. This includes hiding processes, files and much more. With some rootkits you would never even suspect that you have been infected. To make things even worse, you cannot trust a virus/malware scanner that is being run on a system that has been infected, because these things can hide from them just as well as they can from you. Many trojans etc temper with anti virus programs to be able to remain hidden. I seriously recommend that you back up as much of your data as possible and do a clean reinstall. You'd have the added benefit of a clean, fast system which is fun to work with. :)

Sorry, this is going to be a way off topic post but I can't help it. Feel free to delete it or ban me. TucksonSonny, just a few thoughts. Instead of spending three days to "reclaim control" of your computer, you should have just done a complete reinstallation. Firstly it would probably have taken less time and secondly (more importantly) you can never be sure that your system is now completely clean again. Modern spyware, trojans etc are extremely sophisticated and have lots of means of disguising themselves. Even if you don't have sensitive data on your PC and think "why should I care", this is dangerous because any infected system could be used to spread spam, warez, other illegal data or attack websites. And don't ever think you're safe because you're using a personal firewall software and a virus guard/scanner. Those help somewhat but it is a proven fact that all those can be easily tricked and circumvented. This is because of certain features and limitations of Windows, Internet Explorer etc. One still has to be very careful when browsing websites, downloading programs and reading Emails that cannot be 100% trusted. It is common practice to completely wipe a system which is known to have been infected. Very careful people would advise you to wipe all data that is not readable by humans (everything except text, music, images and videos) because malware can embed itself anywhere. I personally wouldn't go that far but I really recommend a clean Windows installation once you know your system has been infected.

Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore

No problem, if you can't get it to work, best start a new thread and we'll try to figure it out. -

Hm, that is strange. I don't know if you've already done that but when I was searching for a solution for my problem, I found several threads that described a similar problem as yours. Have you checked those yet? -

But you posted in your first post that you manage to get onto the airfield and then kicked out? -
Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore
gundelgauk replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Sorry, but that's not the same problem I'm having. You see, I don't even get to the menu where I can choose my coalition and plane. Much less into the game and onto the airfield. Your problem sounds like the timeout problem as described in this thread: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=8348&highlight=timeout Solution is in there as well. -

Actually that possibility crossed my mind. But I honestly can't imagine that. Why would they do something as arbitrary as block connections on port 10308? If by the end of the week I can't get it to work, I will call them and ask about it though. Sorry, I don't have such a file. Do you by chance mean config\network\config.lua ? If so, this is it: -- This file was automagically generated. Edit with care. :) gameTimeout = 500; maxPacketSize = 500; playerName = "gundelgauk"; idleTimeout = 500; stats { enable = true; file = "Temp/mp_log.txt"; }; chat { height = 95; delay = 10000; }; serverFiles = { [1] = "./Bazar/Names.lua"; [2] = "./Bazar/Racks.lua"; [3] = "./Bazar/Types.lua"; [4] = "./Config/Weapons/Guns.lua"; [5] = "./Config/Weapons/DrawInfo.lua"; [6] = "./Config/Weapons/Bombs.lua"; [7] = "./Config/Planes/Pylons.lua"; [8] = "./Config/Planes/Damage.lua"; [9] = "./Config/Planes/AIControl.lua"; [10] = "./Config/Export/Config.lua"; [11] = "./Config/View/Server.lua"; [12] = "./Config/View/Labels.lua"; [13] = "./Config/World/World.lua"; [14] = "./Config/Network/stats.lua"; }; configList = { ["xDSL 2048/2048 Kbit/s"] = { downstream = 256000; upstream = 256000; }; ["LAN 10 Mbit/s"] = { downstream = 500000; upstream = 500000; }; ["Modem 56.6K"] = { downstream = 5000; upstream = 3000; }; ["xDSL 128/128 Kbit/s"] = { downstream = 16000; upstream = 16000; }; ["Modem 33.6K"] = { downstream = 3000; upstream = 1000; }; ["LAN 100 Mbit/s"] = { downstream = 5000000; upstream = 5000000; }; ["xDSL 1024/128 Kbit/s"] = { downstream = 128000; upstream = 16000; }; ["xDSL 256/128 Kbit/s"] = { downstream = 32000; upstream = 16000; }; }; client { syncPing = 1; type = "xDSL 128/128 Kbit/s"; livePing = 15; port = 10308; server = "89.108.86.119"; serverList = { [1] = "192.168.178.200"; [2] = "84.105.135.8"; [3] = "193.122.208.163"; [4] = "89.108.86.119"; [5] = "201.210.89.69"; [6] = "90.13.24.23"; [7] = "85.97.129.4"; [8] = "66.165.113.50"; [9] = "86.56.26.89"; [10] = "217.136.28.8"; }; }; server { type = "xDSL 2048/2048 Kbit/s"; name = "LockOn Server"; maxPlayers = 32; port = 10308; pingUpdate = 30; interface = "All interfaces"; }; The only lines I have changed are the two lines in bold. Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore
gundelgauk replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ok, I've had some time and tried a few things. First of all, I installed FC 1.12a on my laptop and tried connecting to a HL server with it. It doesn't work either. However if I set up a game server on my laptop and connect to it with my desktop computer via LAN it works fine. Really strange. Earlier in this thread I began to suspect that it could have something to do with my router rejecting ICMP pings (just a wild guess really), so I enabled ping. I used a website that offers a ping tool to confirm that pings actually get through to me but that didn't help with my problem either. Ping works fine on the IP that konkussion posted. Antwort von 66.165.113.50: Bytes=32 Zeit=206ms TTL=119 Antwort von 66.165.113.50: Bytes=32 Zeit=177ms TTL=119I tried disabling the XP firewall. No luck. It's not as easy with my router firewall because I need some rules for masquerading (NAT), otherwise it won't act as a router at all. However it logs any packets/connections that are blocked and I don't get any messages related to my attemps to connect to the servers at all. This means that in theory I shouldn't have any problems. Also I can connect to servers with other games like always. It seems that for some reason LockOn is the only game giving me trouble. If there are people on here who have experience with linux iptables, I'd gladly post my firewall script, maybe there's something in there that's giving me trouble that I'm not seeing. That's a great idea, however the whole network setup here is rather complicated and doing that will take a few hours. So I don't know when I'll be able to do this. At the latest I should be able to try that on week end. Thank you all who are trying to help me. :) -
Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore
gundelgauk replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well it's a possibility. Yeah, it would be costly but at least I would be able to fix it then. Thanks, I will know more about this after I try FC on my laptop. If it's in any way a hardware issue, I should be able to play on it just fine. -
Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore
gundelgauk replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yes, that's the kind of thing I was talking about, however I my problem is not that I'm getting disconnected because of a timeout. I cannot connect to the server in the first place. I never get to the coalition/plane selection menu. Still I just tried the exact same settings as in that post and no difference. However the pingPeriod = 1; line made me curious. My router rejects (ICMP) pings, could that be related to my problem? That would be strange though because it has always been that way and it used to work fine. That's an interesting idea. I will install FC on my laptop and do some tests later or tomorrow. EDIT: May I ask how you narrowed your problem down to a specific component? Did you just try replacing all components one by one or were there some clues? Also which component was at fault in the end in your case please? That's exactly what's driving me nuts. :D -
Cannot connect to multiplayer games anymore
gundelgauk replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
No, I always used the default values. When I was searching the forum for possible solutions I found a post that said change the default values in Config\network\config.lua to this: gameTimeout = 500; idleTimeout = 500; It was about a slightly different problem though and when I tried it, it didn't help either.
