You are welcome to come over to my house and check it out. We have a guest bedroom and I've got a fridge full of Red Bull. We can stay up all night flying the MiG-21. BeachAV8R

Yeah..I was surprised that the pneumatic system wasn't an accumulator type of bottle or something that constantly recharged via a pump of some type. BeachAV8R

The All Things Combined Past Release Date Discussions
BeachAV8R replied to statrekmike's topic in MiG-21Bis
No. Keeping in mind both the module and DCS World as a whole are fairly scalable, you should be able to find a level of fidelity that meets your needs. Well, take my posts on SimHQ in the context that they are being created. I've had my hands on the preview copy for two days and have probably logged about six hours of actual flying with it. I could not, for instance, at this moment go through the entire start-up procedure without referring to a checklist. Nor could I do that in the first few weeks of flying the Ka-50, but now I can zip through that procedure fairly well by memory in just a couple minutes. So, like anything, there is a certain amount of just getting used to the lay of the land. It isn't surprising that this should be the case for planes like the A-10C, MiG-21, Ka-50, UH-1H, and Mi-8 that they should have steep learning curves. I mean, they basically replicate nearly all of the actual aircraft systems and a true ground school for something like these aircraft would be a months long classroom and training regime. Also, I think this aircraft will be similar to other complex simulated aircraft in that much of the heavy lifting should be done during engine start, taxi, and enroute to the target. Hopefully in the heat of the moment you will have used all that free time wisely and it will only be a matter of setting a few last second items to pursue the attack (or flee like a little girl in my case)... Wait a minute. So you won't ever buy a module unless it is the MOST superior in the sky? Better wait for Kinney to come out with that F-35. Oh. Wait. BeachAV8R

I think people need to be realistic about the technological disadvantages the MiG-21 will face on the DCS World battlefield(s). As such, scenario designers should be able to compensate by creating missions that level the playing field. Whether that be by numbers of units, air defense rings from which to fight within, and even systems degradation of blue units (oops, lost that radar! - no BVR for you!). This MiG will probably be good for quick launch, near friendly territory, stay low to use the upward looking radar, fire, and retreat. Sort of like how the NVA did it. It would also perhaps be useful to have some sort of RED AWACS mode that BLUE couldn't have to simulate ground controlled intercepts, since that would very likely be what would be happening. Also, being fielded by a lot of air forces around the world, there exists the possibility of it flying against itself, or other lower grade fighters/bombers.. Mission designers can do this and make it believable - I've seen what they can do! BeachAV8R

I simply gave them Canada. <Sorry Canada, no hard feelings right - you guys don't really get mad at anything anyway right??> No, the truth is far more sinister. I had to do things to get my copy. Dirty things. I've tried showering, but apparently the things Leatherneck made me do have stained me deeply. <shudder> But. That said. It was worth it... :pilotfly: BeachAV8R -

Then you'll like these (x-posted from SimHQ): Good grief. Look at the level of detail of the skin and textures. You can almost imagine a Russian worker's hands pounding that metal or something... Another thing, a little detail, the afterburner coming on effect is really, really good. The hue (or color or whatever) seems very realistic and it flickers ever so slightly making it appear alive. Just initial blush stuff.. And I won't be writing much about it here unfortunately. A SimHQ staffer will give you guys the meat I'm sure at some point. BeachAV8R -

A T-6 and AT-6B please.. ;) -
No, 1024 seems to work out fine. I'll see what FRAPS is saying my FPS is in the instant action mission - BRB OK...with those graphics settings above, I'm getting solid 33FPS in the cockpit, about 38FPS in external views in the F-15C instant action mission. Dropping down to low altitude in that mission I was getting 25 FPS no matter whether tree shadows were on or off. Go figure. They are edited, but the only thing I've done to them is crop out the blank space and added a slight vignette to the edges (that dark stuff)..all the rest is stock DCS. As a comparison - here is the original shot versus the posted shot. Cropping brings the focus onto the subject and the vignette implies sort of a real camera. Color, saturation, all that are unchanged from in game.. Original: Cropped and vignetted: BeachAV8R

:) It's all in the angles. Well, actually, that's only partially true. DCS World is quite beautiful and the sim has some of the best lighting in any sim out there. My settings aren't really set all that high. There are some sliders that could be further right..and for some reason I don't have tree shadows on (can't remember if that was because of performance hit..?) The only thing I've done to the shots are cropped them and then added that slight dark vignette to make them look camera-ish.. BeachAV8R

I completely agree that the F-15C could use some good walk through training missions. Learning the radar modes and capabilities is fairly daunting and while the videos are OK, they aren't as good as sitting in the cockpit.. BeachAV8R

The Harrier is on par with the F/A-18C as far as I'm concerned with regards to anticipation. Some additional news would sure be awesome.... BeachAV8R

I had the opportunity (finally) to spend some time with the DCS F-15C module with the Professional Flight Model. Wow..what fun to fly this beast now! No more scripted landings and everything feels so dynamic. Lots of fun.. Can't wait for the PFM Su-27.. F-15C: DCS Flaming Cliffs BeachAV8R

Yes, it's a very well done and subtle occurring effect isn't it? Also nice to see the pitot static start to act up in icing very gradually.. BeachAV8R

Ah..data instead of speculation! That will never fly! Also interested in the results.. :book: BeachAV8R

See - you're talking all that programmer mumbo jumbo. And stop asking me to SHOWmyCOLon.. You have to buy me a drink first.. BeachAV8R

So I was playing the Sukhumi Free Flight mission today and wandered out to the aircraft carrier just offshore. And got to thinking.. "Hmm..can I hover into the hangar deck?" :megalol: I kept shedding blades..maybe the rotor diameter is too wide.. Anyone else manage it? Or is there a collision box that would prevent it anyway? Can anyone point me toward some MP Ka-50 campaigns that will work under the current DCS World architecture? Thanks! BeachAV8R

BeachAV8R's GRAD EX DCS A-10 Mission
BeachAV8R replied to Wrecking Crew's topic in User Created Missions General
Great to hear - that was the plan to have a bunch of different tactics and styles be represented in the mission. As for loadouts - yeah, for the first part of the mission I'd go with four Mavericks and 60% fuel or something like that. Stay light and maneuverable for the duel with that SA-6... BeachAV8R
