Mudspike Preview of DCSW2 and Baltic Dragon's Campaign
BeachAV8R replied to Wags's topic in Community News
This for sure. His briefings are great - and the creative use of the F10 menu is a nice feature. And..I mentioned it in the article..the technical sound of the radio messages (they sound like radio messages) is very good. I've only dabbled in the Mission Editor a bit..but I can imagine how time consuming getting all that stuff together was. Really nice job and worth a few bucks (or more) to get some cool gameplay out of DCS. I'm super psyched to continue the campaign... I'd like to post more stuff, but I don't want to ruin any of the story as it unfolds. :) Thanks to Baltic Dragon and ED for allowing me to shove the two items together for the purposes of the article. I can't wait to see the new clouds that ED is working on! BeachAV8R -

That's nothing. Jedi mind wave. How is that link public? It is not supposed to be. Technology.

Matt will give us a DCS World 2 Live Stream
BeachAV8R replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Does the scenery extend as far as Lone Pine / Mount Whitney? I'd love to see the Hornet screaming down 190 (I think that is the highway?)..into Panamint Valley. Been buzzed on that road before. BeachAV8R (Like the way I snuck that request for the F/A-18 in there??) <g> -
Nice update. Very much looking forward to the AFM and CC... Keep on plugging away! BeachAV8R http://www.mudspike.com

thoughts about the campaign
BeachAV8R replied to whitehot's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
This a million times. I'd love to see a regular stream of payware DLC campaigns for all the modules... BeachAV8R -
Hello taiyang - I checked with my editor at PC Pilot (I'm the author of the article), and we have no problem with you uploading your track for the purposes you describe. I hope someone can help you answer your question... I'll see what I can dig up too. Regards, Chris "BeachAV8R" Frishmuth

Right you are! http://www.radartutorial.eu/19.kartei/karte924.en.html Now where is the pesky RSBN/PMRG facility? :helpsmilie: BeachAV8R
-
Is this the PMRG antennae or is it co-located with the RSBN vehicle? EDIT - It appears to be a GCA/PAR vehicle.. http://www.radartutorial.eu/19.kartei/karte924.en.html Actually - while we are at it - I'm a bit confused about these navaids as well: Upper left looks like a traditional VOR/DME installation, upper right - is that a fixed PAR/GCA station? Bottom left - some sort of surveillance radar in a protective dome (?), and bottom right - fixed RSBN station maybe? And then I found this old image of an RSBN model - but haven't seen any at any of the airfields. So are the RSBN/PMRG at airfields all fixed installations and is it possible to put a mobile RSBN station in a location with the Mission Editor? So I guess what I'm really getting at is what is the vehicle or ground station that controls the RSBN/PRMG signal? Anyone know? BeachAV8R

This is a very good tutorial..and an excellent direction to go with these type of trainers. I just went through the full tutorial, and even though I don't speak or understand Spanish, I found the tutorial useful and am really looking forward to the English voice-over version. As a civil aviation pilot, it warmed my heart to go through all those preflight checks - fantastic! Looking forward to more content like this... BeachAV8R

Only the good ones take off with the canopy still up. Not that I'd ever do that... :music_whistling:

Real pilot here. Roughly 8,000 hours split between 1,500 piston, 4000 jet, and 2,500 turboprop. I've been flying Citations and King Airs for the last 20 years, so keep that in mind when you read my opinion. Both the King Air and Citation have straight wings that favor low speed handling and short takeoff/landing performance at the penalty of a rougher cruise ride and a slower Mmo (Mach .755). I've have a smattering of hours in some swept wing jets like the Beechcraft, but the general consensus is, the more wing sweep you get, the more care and finesse a plane requires. You can be a bit sloppy with a straight wing Citation, but a Lear or Hawker requires more attention to things like your Vref speed and the penalty for getting slow is more severe. A few things about the MiG-21 that make me feel that they have a pretty good replication of the real difficulty is the high wing sweep, the relatively small area of the delta wing resulting in a high wing loading, and the narrowly set landing gear all combine to make the MiG-21 a fairly "dynamic" aircraft on landing. Throw in relatively high Vref speeds due to the aforementioned bleed off system and you have a squirrely airplane that requires a lot of attention, adherence to the numbers, and one that requires the plane to be flown all the way through the rollout. As most of you have noticed, flying this thing to 10' above the runway, dropping the throttle to idle and holding it off just doesn't work. You have to fly the airplane all the way to touchdown before reducing the throttle. Though I have a lot of jet time, I don't have a lot of jet time in high wing loading, narrow gear aircraft. The closest I could come is maybe my time in the Beechjet..and the feeling there was definitely more of balancing on a ball than the much wider stance and straight wing of the Citations. This video is pretty demonstrative of how active the MiG-21 is on landing - with breathtaking speed of how it unfolds. Basically, they are driving the airplane onto the "runway" (in this case a road) and while they set up a landing attitude, it isn't your traditional flare and hold off (which you can do if you have plenty of runway and can keep some throttle in). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etnLMGurZD8 BeachAV8R

Thanks for the confirmation xxJohnxx - that mirrors what we were seeing. Not a huge problem at all. In a scrap, I don't know that too many people that jettison only the wings or only the belly tank..but I'm sure someone does it. LOL.. BeachAV8R

Einstein and I have been dorking around with this still tonight - and we both reached the same conclusion that the 3 external tanks are at least somewhat being drawn down simultaneously. After getting the lights for the wing tanks, two minutes later (at military power) you get the light for the ventral tank. No way you are burning through 900L at that power setting in two minutes...
-
So this was a bit of a head scratcher for me for the last few hours - and I think I've got it figured out (with the sharp eyes of Einstein EP keeping me straight)..but I'm just wondering if someone can explain why the annunciators are labeled this way. So the normal order of operations when sporting about with 3 external fuel tanks is: External wing tanks - empty External ventral tank - empty Internal fuel So as the wing tanks get near empty, the annunciator comes on behind the stick on the center panel: FUEL PODS EMPTY A. It seems odd to me that this is located right next to the CENTER FUEL TANK annunciator that lets you know you have a CENTER/VENTRAL tank mounted. In my initial dealings with the airplane I just assumed that when the FUEL PODS EMPTY A light came on it meant that the VENTRAL tank was exhausted. Why did I think this? Well, because the other annunciator (on the right annunciator panel) says: FUEL PODS EMPTY W. I took the "W" to mean "WINGS" right? Wrong. W and the plural "PODS" apparently means, V (Wentral in Russian I guess) and singular. Confused? Yeah - so was I. The manual apparently has it right though..but there is some room for confusion for those of us using the English cockpit. My suggestion would be to have the two lights read: FUEL POD CTR EMPTY or FUEL POD VTRL EMPTY and the other one read WING PODS EMPTY Or something less apt to get confused. Unless I was the only one. In which case. Carry on. I'll learn Cyrillic! By the way - did LN implement the loss of pneumatic air in a recent patch..because I think I lost air pressure when I was doing a lot of braking while doing some engine runs to test some fuel flow stuff... :music_whistling: Love this module..! Mission 3: End of Grad
BeachAV8R replied to kontiuka's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
Yes, the wording needs to be more explicit. I would have definitely not hit the trigger except I was dorking around flying formation and messing with the helmet site trying to get refreshed on how to lock targets. So it was only by sheer luck that I stayed with them in formation long enough to get the trigger message. It should be adjusted. -
Mission 3: End of Grad
BeachAV8R replied to kontiuka's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
Right, but did you fly in formation with them on the second try? If the AI landing bug prevented them from landing, but you didn't change your behavior to fly with them to the final approach fix, then you haven't helped identify where the problem is. The AI landing bug is certainly there, but that might not be the problem with the mission - the problem is more likely that the briefing or in-mission text isn't specific enough that you have to fly on their wing all the way to very close to the airport. You've said you haven't escorted them back to their base because they are in friendly territory and what is the purpose of that - but that is a personal philosophical take on the mission, and not perhaps what the mission designer intended. But it needs to be made more explicit that you must escort them (as in close formation fly) with them back to their base before you can get the release. My suggestion is for them to change the trigger to be just when the Su-25 arrive within say 5KM of their base because it seems like there are dual triggers (arrive near base AND your unit must be in the moving zone around the Su-25 perhaps?). That is the one thing with mission designs in that you can't always predict how any one user is going to fly the mission and you have to encompass all of that in how you build the mission, and more importantly, how you brief the mission because if you have tight triggers or very explicit triggers, you may need to emphasize things in the briefing or in the in-game communications even more clearly than perhaps you would otherwise think. Glad you mention it here so they can address it. But give the mission a shot again and fly the wing all the way to the airport (even if you don't think you should have to because you are in friendly territory) and then report back if you get the mission advance part. Because THAT might be the problem, and not the AI landing bug (which is a problem that needs to be fixed, but might not be the problem preventing the mission from advancing). Hope that makes sense... Grand Opening - MUDSPIKE - Exclusive DCS World 2 video...
BeachAV8R replied to BeachAV8R's topic in Community News
Thanks for the comments guys. The site is just standing up on its own legs..so apologies if anything is out of order. We worked hard to try to get a layout that works across multiple platforms (PC, iPad, mobile), but you never know what might crop up that we didn't spot. Thanks to Wags for providing us that awesome video. When I was watching it for the first time last night..and the music started, I was like..oh wow..! Went full screen, turned up the sound..and just reveled in that. The whole time I was, of course, thinking how awesome that airbase is going to look with a whole bunch of MP clients playing on it..going off on Red Flag missions. Holy cow it's gonna be cool. And yes, I looked longingly at those Hornets on the ramp <g>. Thanks again and thanks to the guys that are part of MUDSPIKE (FearlessFrog and EinsteinEP). There is zero chance the site would exist without their help and burning a LOT of midnight oil the past week. They are the greatest to work with. We have no pride (well, mostly), so any suggestions, criticisms, observations..or whatever, we'd love to hear from you. If the Q&A, video, or review stuff strikes your fancy or puts you off, we want to know about it. Thanks for taking time out of your day to come check us out. We really appreciate it. Grand Opening - MUDSPIKE - Exclusive DCS World 2 video...
BeachAV8R posted a topic in Community News
After much scrambling in the past week, we'd like to unveil our site today. A few of us like-minded simmers decided to come together and launch a sim related review, preview, blog, and AAR site. We hope you come, take a look around, and enjoy some of our content. As a special grand opening bonus, Wags was kind enough to provide us with an exclusive video of him blowing around the NTTR in the F-15C. It is incredible: http://www.mudspike.com We look forward to seeing you guys there! Chris "BeachAV8R" Frishmuth -

We've got something cooking. Thanks for the encouragement! BeachAV8R -
No complaints out of me either. Far less intrusive than Origin or UPlay. If this is bad DRM, please make it worse ED. I mean, I don't not take Tylenol because of the big Tylenol scare of 1982. BeachAV8R
