That Su-33 approach screen gives me a...uh..well, it is just cool.. More naval ops for DCS...! (We are looking at you Razbam!) So is ED going to build the Wasp class ship? :music_whistling: BeachAV8R

BeachAV8R's GRAD EX DCS A-10 Mission
BeachAV8R replied to Wrecking Crew's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks to Wrecking Crew for ramping this mission up. It started out with a concept and a skeleton of a mission and WC just took it above and beyond.. He spent a lot of hours tweaking it up and it is really fun to fly.. Lots of opportunities for using different types of ordnance. Many thanks for his assistance and expertise.. BeachAV8R -
Looks like a good book - on sale on Amazon (Kindle) for 92% off = $1.99. LINK! I have not read it, but intend to - and it looks pretty good and gets pretty good reviews. I don't know how long it is on sale.. BeachAV8R

Agreed...(mostly)..

Dropping MK-82s in CCRP mode - worth it?
BeachAV8R replied to eFirehawk's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I stole it from attack pilot description of CCIP I read once. You know - all us pilot types are really, really dumb..so we need to break it down to the simplest of terms.. BeachAV8R -
Dropping MK-82s in CCRP mode - worth it?

I <heart> CCIP bombing... Put the thing on the thing and mash the button. What's not to love..! <g> That's gonna leave a mark... BeachAV8R -
In-cockpit landing, breaking through vortex ring
BeachAV8R replied to rrohde's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Is it just me..but do those seats look terribly uncomfortable? It seems as if the posture of the pilot is such that he has to lean forward for the duration of the flight (?).. BeachAV8R -
I like the commitment. NO..that was my parking spot. No matter what.

Wow..great idea! Can't tell you how many times I've minimized DCS trying to find some obscure command. (No...not / for steering dammit! Must. Unlearn. That.)

PS - I've also found that the biggest challenge when jumping from the training scenarios to the single and campaign missions is the almost immediate ramp up in "task saturation" levels. Campaign designers should take into consideration that easing into the action is a nice way to acclimate rather than getting thrown fully clothed into the deep end of the pool. That's why I've always been such a big fan of campaigns that have a buildup to the action. Recons, light action, followed by more complex missions. The Vergeev Group campaign (for the Ka-50) is probably the best example of a campaign that is fun, but doesn't overwhelm you from the start. A similarly designed campaign would be very welcomed for the A-10C. BeachAV8R

Agreed - there are some fine people on there that know all the ins and outs of the sim and are very helpful and encouraging. Sometimes a lot of learning can be done by just flying online and listening and following on a wing (or staying out of the way).. Regarding the CDU - there is this awesome tutorial by Einstein EP: HERE! BeachAV8R

Helicopter state change from static to active?

This worked great! Thanks! BeachAV8R -

Can this mission be modified to fly with the Mi-8 by chance? -

Helicopter state change from static to active?
BeachAV8R replied to BeachAV8R's topic in Mission Editor
Yeah, but I think that will only work on an airfield - my unit is a helicopter out in a field with no FARP or airfield..which is far as I can tell, you cannot place as an AI unit, only a static object... -
I'm sure there are multiple ways to do this, but the one I figured out isn't very elegant, so I'm wondering what the experts would do. What I'm trying to do is have a static helicopter become active after the destruction of a nearby unit (yeah - it's time to get out of Dodge Vladimir!).. This is just a helo in a field, not on a FARP or airbase. So I can't see a way to place a helicopter via the ME as anything other than a static helo if it isn't on an airbase or FARP, so I place a helo as a static object. My brilliant mind figured - OK, upon destruction of the nearby unit, I can just make the static helo go away, and replace it with a helo hovering at 1 meter. Well, I can't seem to stumble across a way to make the static helo disappear via a trigger (destruction of the nearby unit). I think I can destroy the helo, but that doesn't really hold the illusion of the second helicopter being the same one that was on the ground. Out of curiosity - why can't we just place a helo on the ground and have it be a delayed activation (or delayed AI activation) based on a trigger? Or am I missing something? Any ideas? Unfortunately my creative brain is way further along than my mission editor comprehension skills at this point.. BeachAV8R

Very interesting techniques.. Shows how creative designers can get (multiple ways to skin a cat..) BeachAV8R

Yep..AI can't disconnect from the tanker. Watched my wingman eject from his aircraft while on the boom last night.. Interesting..
-
I'm seeing the same problem. Mentioned it to those in the know.. Also, it seems that the AI A-10Cs don't have a problem staying connected and taking fuel.. EDIT - Scratch all that. The AI stays connected to the tanker for an impossibly long time, then I believe he ran out of fuel because he ejected while still on the boom! That caught me by surprise.. BeachAV8R

Aha! Very nice.. Thank you. Although I had to pare it back from an SA-10 to an SA-6 site... <g> the -10 is impossible!! And many thanks to Danny V for the awesome templates (which seem to still work with DCS World..) Realistic Templates.. That allowed for a quick setup of a realistic looking SA-6 site.. BeachAV8R

So usually I can stumble through the forums and editor and figure out what I'm trying to do, but I'm stymied this time. I'm trying to get an SA-10 site to activate (actually just start radiating) when a unit enters a trigger zone. Prior to the unit entering the trigger zone I don't want the SA-10 constantly setting of the RWR, so I want it to be visible if one happened to slew their TGP toward it, but not active until the unit is X KM from the site. I understand the late activation setting, but that just spawns the unit it upon being triggered. I want the unit to be there all along, but only turn the radar on once a unit enters the trigger zone. I'm sure it has something to do with RED and GREEN states, but I don't understand how to trigger those states. Anyone have a quick answer to make me feel even dumber? <G> PS - And once it's activated it can stay active, I don't need it to shutdown after the unit exits the trigger zone. I just want the user to be able to concentrate on an earlier part of the mission without the constant aggravating growl of the SA-10 tone on their RWR.. BeachAV8R

I'm actually surprised we haven't yet seen a Vietnam Era Kickstarter put forward similar to the WWII one. I think it would be quite well received... A-4 F-4 A-6 A-7 F-5 F-105 MiG-19 & 21 UH-1 & AH-1 A-1E OV-10 B-52 if we are getting really serious..! Imagine those Yankee Station missions or the F-105 Iron Hand missions.. Oh..I'm getting myself all lathered up..<g> BeachAV8R

Man..I'd love to fly an A400M..what a sexy aircraft.. Would provide some great opportunities for mission builders to escort. Anyone remember that Jane's F-15 mission where you had to escort the C-130 out of hostile territory..? BeachAV8R PS - Already seeing civvy type missions with ones like the just posted UH-1H and Mi-8 ship evac mission (go to the Missions forum)

We love you! We really do!! BUT...please, please, please, can you help us out by posting your missions in either the sticky threads at the top of the forum or the User Files section of the site? I love flying the missions, but sometimes finding them in pages and pages of the forum can be difficult. :detective_2: I know that some missions are in a constant state of tweaking as each DCS version is released..and for that an editable post would be required I understand. I just know that user created missions (SP and MP) are the lifeblood of DCS World, and for them to get buried on the 10th page or greater is a shame.. BeachAV8R
