It seems to be something with a default generated "Create Fast Mission" and the C-101. It could be an issue with the mission generator; I don't know of any other planes which have an external ladder, so I don't know how the generator might interact with other planes. If I create a fast mission, and don't invoke the "mission planner" option on the Mission Overview screen, I get a ladder. If I use the mission planner, or customize the mission and re-generate it, or if I create a mission in the editor with a mid-air start and fly that - no ladder. I seem to have hit upon a very minor and specific situation that this occurs.
-
OK - I tried to find out which situations will reproduce this. I was mistaken - it's not runway starts, it's mid-air starts. Uboats is correct, if I run the quick start mission through the editor, there is no ladder attached to the plane. It doesn't seem to affect the flight model, it appears to be only cosmetic. More humorous than a bug :)

But, I had a coupon! "Good for 30% off ground crew servicing" ;)
-
That's from a runway start fast mission, if that's of any help.

Another quick question :) I take it that knee board implementation is not yet in the beta? Is there a list of features that are coming, but aren't there yet? Don't mistake me - I'm in NO way complaining. I'm quite sure that everything will come with time, I'm just wondering what I should be looking for, and what I should wait patiently for.

Although - while I've never tried this - it's my understanding that you can disable 3D rendering on the server, which basically leaves you with black screens in game, on the server computer. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1165393 Of course, you can't play on such an installation, but it works fine as a multi-player host, and this drastically reduces the horsepower of the graphics card needed. Looking at the server profile you showed, you have a Linux OS, and you'll need Windows to run DCS, which pretty much doubles your cost.

Dome lights, I know I can do - that switch functions now. Gauge lights ... well, OK, that corresponds to my "memory", even that that's unfortunate. What I'm talking about the backlighting on the labels - the lighting that comes up when you spin up the 6 "Red Light" dials over the pilot, co-pilot, and engineer. I could have sworn I've seen this labeling come up as white, with a mod or setting change - but if not, then not.
-
I seem to recall there being (and me having) a mod which changed the panel backlight color from red to white. Yes - I know it's not terribly realistic, and that red is the best color for low-light and night operations. However, I can't find any such mod listed in the User Files, nor can I find any reference to it, searching the forums, or Google. Does it exist, does anyone know where I might find it, or did I just hallucinate the whole thing? :P Thanks

Short range IR mobile units, and MANPADs certainly can - but it's much easier with a real wingman. One plane "buzzes" an area at high altitude just in firing range, while the other watches, and notes where the SAM launched from. Once you see them, Kh-25ML's are great for picking them off with greater range than most short-range SAMs. I don't see why you couldn't use Vikhrs.

Is it "cheating"? I wouldn't go that far. Is it unrealistic? I think so. You don't use weapons designed to take out ships on a tanks. You have to fit the weapons to the mission: Taking out armor? Two racks of Vikhrs (and maybe some external fuel tanks) are all you need. Going up on a SEAD mission? Now you need anti-radiation missiles. Need to take out infantry units? How about some anti-personal cluster munitions. Is it part of the mission to take out a bunker, building, or bridge? Maybe you need to look at bomb selections. And never forget, you have a pretty heavy cannon on board all the time - for light targets. Are there enemy fighter aircraft in the area? Call for some Su-27s to run CAP for you; Frogfoot is not a fighter. :P Look at the mission, think about what you need, and - for the most part - take the minimum that you need to perform the task, with a bit of a margin for error. I see many people on multiplayer servers loading up everything they can, and never using half of it. Not only is it not realistic (in War, you don't waste materials, if you're competent), but unused weight just burns up fuel.

Poll for Civil Modules you would buy for DCS World
Vedexent replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS Wishlist
Here's a thought. The flight SIM community is pretty small. The larger your audience, the more revenue for the company, the more development options the company has for future projects. Do I want to fly a 777 in DCS World? Not really. Do I want more people flying DCS so the company can finally devote resources to some long standing projects? Hell, yeah. So, if there's a few "civilian aircraft servers" on the multiplayer list where everyone's zooming around in civilian aircraft, and there's no combat - but the money they pump into the system allows ED to make DCS 3.0 kick ass, I'll take it! I have to agree with earlier views that if ED wants to license 3rd party developers to develop civilian aircraft, and use the proceeds to improve the core game, I'm all for it - even if I won't be flying many of them myself. -
And, is it just me, or the Frogfoot has become a lot more realistic wrt to it's reactions to sudden AoA changes? I tried a rocket run after the update, and it definitely doesn't like the nose pushed around as hard. Don't get me wrong: higher aerodynamic fidelity is a good thing - I just have to unlearn some bad habits :P

Would you pay for Su-27 if it come out as a separate DCS standard module.
Vedexent replied to PLAAF's topic in DCS Wishlist
Yes. I have FC3, but I would re-buy the Su-27 as a standalone module if it included Advanced System Modelling. -
LOL - Operation Rolling Cossack, FTW!
-
+1 to this :) That said, I would be very happy to see someone put together a fiction Royal Canadian Air Force Mig-21 skin ;)
-
It's not just the training missions. I've had this happen on quick start missions, and multi-player as well. Seems to be general - if minor - bug.
-
Great tutorials. Not only do you explain the systems very well, you really know how to pace a video - I like how you give viewers the options to skip over waiting sequences, but do leave them in (at 4X speed). Great job!

I threw up a public practice range mission on a server, with 4 squadrons of MiG-21s - 3 x Red and 1 x Blue. There's an odd issue in that the first time I try to enter a MiG-21, it won't let me - I just see the map. The second MiG-21 I try and enter, no issue - although the plane I tried to first enter is sitting next to me, starting up, and it happily goes off on it's own as an AI plane. This doesn't appear to be any specific plane, in any specific squadron - it just has to be the first one I try. Any MiG-21s after that, no issues. I don't know if this is an issue with the MiG-21 or DCS (although this doesn't seem to happen with other missions and planes).

Leatherneck, you are incredible and awesome !!!!!
Vedexent replied to Skulleader's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Have to throw in my 2 cents and agree as well. This is clearly a labor of love, and the results are truly amazing. If this is the caliber of work you plan to do in the future (and I do hope there are future projects - although I think you all probably need and deserve some vacation time), you can count on me to be standing in line to pre-order :) Now ... I have go figure out the navigation systems... :D -
And I've taken a SAM hit from a Linebacker - the aircraft definitely took damage AND most of the wings ripped off. I also deliberately tried to exceed 28deg AoA while diving at 900Kph - no smooth loops here! Not only did the plane go out of control, but by the time I had it fought back under control, I realized the engine had flamed out. I suspect that if your plane is behaving too nicely, it's a settings issue.

I'm not sure how expensive this would be for ED to license - but probably prohibitively so. I have not seen a game yet that uses this, and I suspect that's why - although I haven't seen all games, of course

DCS Update - 1.2.10.32095.521 Fails.
Vedexent replied to Mrmaverick's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Another one here: Dora is gone. Sabre is gone. Update won't complete (even run as Admin, even with Antivirus off). Module Manager apparently thinks I'm asking for an "Unknown Module MIG-21BIS". Multi-player Server is now offline because the Sabre is gone. I don't have the Su-25T training missions downloaded. Is that constructive? edit: Yes, I ran repair. Yes, I ran the DCS_updater separately from the folder. -
This would be interesting - and historically accurate with the Su-25. My understanding is that there was an attachable pod that would contain tools/parts/external fuel pump, so that 25s could put down anywhere there was a flat strip and a fuel truck - instant "air base". It would be be very cool to be able to replicate that in game.
