  2. Merlin 66 had a pressure injection carb that cured the issue. But it wasn't fitted on ALL subsequent variants.... So some MkIX Spitfires were OK and I think later variants were mostly OK too. But I'd have to dig a bit.
  3. +1 for the choices so far. I think my enthusiasm for the Lightning is well documented. 2nd gens fascinate me. As the performance is comparable to more modern aircraft but the avionics and weapons systems are archaic! Usually a couple of missiles just about capable of hitting a straight and level bomber and then its back to a reliance on guns. May I add the Draken?

  5. I'd add a +1 to Draken and F104. Add a Mig-19 to the list too please! I love my 2nd gen jets! Lightning is my absolute must have for DCS but VEAO are planning to develop one.
  6. Rotary encoder would be my choice. But means expenditure!
  7. Configure it in what way? If you mean setting the controls you have to be certain you are selecting both the correct column and row. Plus using the drop down boxes at the top to help find the control you want. There is also a search bar up there.
  8. I'm yet to hear in-sim sounds that do justice to any real aircraft... I live in hope though! We will always have the problem of trying to replicate a sound produced by something with a LOT of energy with tiny little speakers.... Thats got to be part of it hasn't it?

  10. Update: Using "group deactivate" works.... but then respawned group doesnt continue with the previous groups orders.
  11. Need to be able to kill a group if it leaves a zone. I know how to do it with triggers and explode unit, but due to using a respawn script the unit names keep changing. Any ideas? Currently i'm using a patriot battery to kill em all!

    Agreed I'm not fussed either way. Though most people don't seem to mind the Mig21 having a few "fantasy" weapons loadouts! You don't have to use them after all. I'd still favour a Gr.3 though!

    Interesting... On Razbam's site they state the FSX version of the Gr.9 comes with the 25mm gunpod that was supposed to be fitted but never finished development. http://www.razbamsims.com/bae_harrierii_gr79.html Might see the same with the DCS one.
  16. Sound is absolutely critical to my enjoyment of a game/sim. OK we don't hear much in the cockpit but I do like to see videos from the external viewpoint. I do like other aircraft to be taking off while my canopy is up before start up etc. The sounds created by an aircraft flyby arent just one source either. Doppler is indeed present in DCS but It's not convincing in my opinion. But more importantly the current sounds on the jets appear to just get higher pitched and louder. Its still the same wooshy jet noise. Every aircraft sounds different but most jets get to a point where your earsdrums are being overdriven much like a cheap speaker and the sound you hear turns into a deafening white noise roar.... The props sound also seems to be purely RPM based not load based, though the recent popping on overrun is a nice addition! It's not just the engine either. The Vulcan howl is a resonance in the intakes at certain throttle settings. F104's whistle comes from the point bypassed air rejoins the exhaust. The "blue note" of meteors and hunters is from the gun ports. P51's whistle from the intake at certain angles of attack etc Even a pair of Mk1 spitfires sound different when the only difference in them is the mirror above the pilots head!. I hope some day that every aircraft in DCS replicates the real sound signature of the aircraft modelled. If you arent familiar with the Blue Note from 45 seconds on. I also hope that some day we will get the sound lagging behind the aircraft. It should be possible but would depend quite a lot on people audio setup being able to position sounds well enough.
  17. Surely we just need one AWACS per flight? Specific frequency each. Job done! I've used AWACS in multiplayer and its fine if there's only a few of you. So multiple AWACS for multiple flights should sort it.

    Been googling a bit. Apparantly Gr.9 had used Single Mode Brimstone operationally, will do some more digging to see if I can find any more accounts of it... Would be a nice loadout to have! The lack of a gun isnt a huge deal IMO, can always use rockets. Though I wonder why they didn't just keep ADEN pods for them? Can't hae been cost. Already had the things!

  21. Just had a thought... Windows knows what monitor is plugged into it right? And what resolution we use is a game setting. Could enlargement be tied to both so size of distant objects on screen is near identical for all users?

  24. The "low resolution" is a byproduct of wrapping a 2d image over a 3d object. Things get stretched. So a single pixel on the texture file itself can end up many times bigger. You can see examples of this on ALL modules if you know where to look. Mirage is no worse in this respect. I guess if you wanted you could have the pits textures split into multiple sections to increase the resolution locally on areas that are highly contoured to reduce the effect but increase demand on graphics memory?
  25. How do you set and enforce the improved spotting? Is it just the setting set on the host? Or is there an option in the mission editor like for the F10 map and external views?
